Shotguns in games

Is there ANY game where shotguns are depicted accurately?
In most games the shot will have a 2 mile spread as soon as it leaves the barrel.

If shotguns are realistic then all guns would have to be realistic.

This is what shotgun whiners never realize.

Stop playing arcade shitfest if you don't like arcade shitfests.

so?

Doom

PAYDAY: The Heist, shockingly.

This. It also fires seven individual pellets that do damage each.

Hotline Miami

Bad Company 2

The campaign for CoD Black Ops. The shotguns have pretty realistic range. But then in the multiplayer the range is severely gimped for balance reasons.

How dead.

Not quite dead, shits overrun with people using aimbots though

GTA 5 had a pretty accurately depicted shotgun, before it got beaten with the Nerf Stick.

Zone of Alienation mod for Stalker

Earth Defense Force. I shit you not they actually are a fuckton more accurate than what is portrayed in most games.

Fo4 did shotguns so badly, if you got a gun with a special like +10 fire damage it would apply it to each pellet and a shotgun fired like 8 pellets so it was retardedly op. Also, IIRC, I want to say Fo3 shotguns were fun and NV was shit.

Better to just get the mod you like and mod them to be actually effective.

GTA IV. Realistic kickback.

Thanks, Jaden.

Better question: Are there any games that feature punt guns?

Warframe
Seriously, the two best shotguns in it fire pellets in a cone so tight you can take out shits from across the arena.
That is, unless you're fighting some retardedly OP enemies with gigantic health pool thanks to the stupid scaling system.

It's just an oversized birdshot cannon. Wouldn't be effective on humans standing beyond 15 feet range.

EYE.
The Depezador is great.

Bad Company 2

and I think BF3 were pretty accurate.

Didn't BF3 even have different ammo types?

Fallout: New Vegas.

eh, kinda

bc2 shotguns had either two mile spread or lazer accuracy at a million miles

It was fun as hell killing people from the other end of the map using slugs but it was hardly realistic

it's more realistic than most games.

...

Stop reposting the same thread, OP.

Did somebody say ice creaM?

They are my favorite guns in a game if they are done well.

"Balance" is the gayest shit ever

People that defend it are fucking retarded and should go play with barbies or something

why makes you think that?

"Balance" is the definiton of cancer in gaming

Seconding this here faggot, there are even tank-sized guns that behave like shotguns and some mechs mount two of them.

realistic shotgun is only OP because the maps are small as shit
the game i want to make would have maps with a standard size of 2 square kilometres.
even sniper rifles wouldnt make it all the way across without going off track

There's a valid concern for balance in games though. There's a bell curve for strength in weapons, characters, etc., and outliers on the weaker end become too useless to bother playing, while the opposite end is too strong to not use, even if the game intended for people to use a variety of weapons and characters.

Why bother having a pistol in a game if it deals 5 damage when you can use the pistol that is exactly the same, except that it deals 10 damage?

Because if you only have access to the 5 damage gun you git gud enough to wreck the guy with the 10 damage gun.

Or you can be a shitter and switch to whatever lets you use the 10 damage gun.

Or you can be an even bigger shitter and fucking whine on every online forum about how the 10 damage gun should be brought down to 5 damage because you couldn't handle the challenge but have too big of an ego to use the 10 damage gun.

"muh balance" faggots are the fucking worst

Same reason you would want the weaker pistol irl, its probably lighter and can carry more bullets and shit like that. Not everyone wants to play with snipers in every game just because they are by far the strongest weapons everytime.

Weirdly enough, Terminator Salvation. People who were used to shotguns doing no damage at further than 5 meters called it a 'sniper shotgun' since you could use it to take out those annoying little robots that would fly around you.

I was going to post in this thread, but your exceedingly retarded post has given me pause.

Can you play that shit without being glued to the cover? i mean, its one of those retarded cover based games that insta kills you if you dont stick behind something sucking your thumbs?

I know right, its like people play games for fun or something instead of going for the nuclear weapon that insta kills everyones and wins the match

Games that are balanced don't have weapons that insta kill everyone and win the match, dipshit.

You are one dense motherfucker

Having weaker, crappier weapons, gear, spells, etc in games allows for things like challenge runs, which are lots of fun. In multiplayer games it allows you to handicap yourself so your friends who may not be as familiar with the game can still have fun and a fighting chance. OP stuff is enjoyable for a couple minutes, but then it gets boring since wrecking everything without any effort trivializes gameplay quickly, those sorts of things should be reserved for cheat codes or a reward for beating the game quickly like Resident Evil.

That's what I thought, of course you don't have a comeback. At least the guy below you tried.

Balance is needed in gaming, or you end up with games like cs:go. In early builds we had weeks in which the deagle had basically no recoil, dealt the same damage as a scout.

It was basically a mini auto sniper for only 700. Or the days in which the p250 killed with one shot to the head. No idea how much it costs, but it should be something like 300 or 350. The m4 on the other hand costs 3100 and needs two shots to the head to kill.

Balance is needed, what you complain about is dumping down games so noobs and beginners have a easy time in game.

Challenges and personally induced handicaps for the sake of less experienced players are fine reasons. Didn't think of those, honestly.

That said, it matters more for a gun to feel authentic or plausible more than it does to be realistic. It's arbitrary for two guns with similar frames, designs, and calibers to deal significantly different amounts of damage. No amount of balance can make that less dumb, but there has to be at least one actual scenario in a game where using the 5 damage pistol is justified.

Spawning with it in multiplayer, and being forced to kill other players or search a map for better guns is fine, starting out with a weak weapon in singeplayer segments is okay, or it being an easily acquirable emergency weapon. There needs to be a situational reason to use it, even if you wanted to use it for the sake of challenge, unless it's a deliberate joke gun.

...

Weirdly enough, MW2 had some really great shotguns with decent range and spread. The SPAS12 in that game was very good even at what could be considered mid-range.

the semi-auto shotguns in rainbow six: siege are flat-out overpowered, at least the weird one that Frost uses and the SPAS that valkyrie uses

insurgency used to have fantastic shotguns too, they felt great to use, dealt a lot of damage and were accurate to a surprisingly long range. then they nerfed them because tacticoolbabies cried about them and they're useless, but at least they were once great

Reminder that Kurt was murdered.

ice cream? god I love ice cream!

reminder that the world is still better without him

Don't get me wrong, she is a qt but she shouldn't be in Germany.

Not sure how realistic it is but Duke3D's pump shotgun is basically a fucking rail gun.

Are you sure she's asian?

Does ArmA have shotguns?

Shotguns in New Vegas need some perks, and the right ammo to shine. The Riot Shotgun is probably the most powerful small gun in the game.

While I'm not sure if it's realistic, the shotgun in this game is definitely among the most fun to use. Dual Pistols/Shotgun/Penetrator is the best way to play.

members.shaw.ca/vaecrius/hd/

The MODEL 1887 in mw3 was pretty nice, idk if it was also a part of mw2. I think

posted that one to early. Anyway, wasn't that shotgun also the reason why people started to call shotguns noob weapons?

Like I am not up to date with gaming trends and shit like that, but I remember that in the early cs:go days people hated it when I used the nova, which was a pretty decent weapon back then.

They were decent in the second one too but then got nerfed hard.

STALKER comes fairly close as do a few of the more autistic TBT games (JA2 comes to mind). SWAT 4 wasn't bad either and F.E.A.R., while not particularly realistic, gave it some degree of range.

This nigger knows his shit. I'd even say the pistols can be more satisfying than the shotgun on occasion.

Why does Slugshot only have like 50m for its range tho? Do slug really weigh a lot?

how does an 11 year old game create so much more fun and memorable moments than that heavily-shilled unpolished japanese z-movie trash

just why bother adding shotguns to the game

They were buffed again. They're good again, useful for taking out snipers even.

Shotty's are more deadly the closer ppl are to them. Close up and their wounds will not.

Pistols aren't accurate, bad sights too because short barrels. I can throw a stone further than a shotgun stays deadly when the shots aren't solid.

Solid shot will go through armour even if subsonic. Otherwise through people, cats and doorlocks. Called a masterkey for a reason.

They can load individual shells quickly so they can be filled when reloading without wasting ammo.

If everything is fine inside they don't jam and can be made with enough room for problems they can't jam. Easy to know how much is in it because it's full.

Can be fired as fast as pumped.
Relatively long barrel so sights are more accurate.
Headshots remove heads no question.
Safe from bystanders because they will only be blinded or paralysed etc from shots they watch from grand stands.
Different shells, solid, fuck, grenade, even flachetes which hold a flat trajectory longer. Shotgun can be used for sniping. Ballpoint or pointy end for writing full stops. Spray paint otherwise, fire and forget.

A soldier without a shotgun is like a skyscraper without an airplane or a cat on a hot tin roof.

Soldier of Fortune
Max Payne
Cowl o Jew tea

Doom 3 needs a mod for

Shotguns pumped fast, catch and pump or pump against scenery, dual weild other gun can go to sight and be shotgun becomes secondary fire, reloaded automatically.

For comtrollers/console
R2 (aim) pumps shotgun. Move R2 down and back without letting it go to stay in aim an pump. All the way down stays secondary fire, melee with it. Takes time to get used to people stuff up pumps and melee things realising that is an added bonus. Can melee as part of reload, close to enemy make it part of their body, can keep meleeing, lightening R2 required nearly all the way to pump fully. Pump required after every shot.

Reload button (R1 and R2 pressed simultaneously, no quickscope)

Reload button tome held for different type o shell. Quick uses a lucky dip that could be anything. Maybe. Too fun. Quick is buckshot. Too boring. Quick is the best shot for the situation, by enemy distance, armour, conditions, accuracy of player etc.

So Doom 3 looking nothing like it. Player char is Sgt from start.

Damage control elsewhere.
Caller id's weapons, future ones with EoTechs, aimpoints, ironsights lazers an such. Burn through them lots of ammunition.

Carry few thousand rounds. Several weapons, quick switch reload. Quick aim. Quicker everything and better melle the more enemies there are so play harder for better play.

Outdoor martian terraform areas. Instead of workers making equip to deal with world changing people and agaist their will. Nope.

Limited number of pickups and set pickup areas, less threat the closer the pickup.

UAC fairly small in comparison to other corps.
Different styles same bullshit.

More tech. Rescued people learn to fight or get left behind. Give them weapons to pickup by shooting the ones holding them. Go for weapons storage they wonder why, not for very long. More missions afterward, go talk to the people reaponsible. Swan recruiting them Morrigan Dissaproves, Sgt backstory, Swan used so scum are more in the open, passed around, Swan aware he has no allies, some defence to him because of that, undeserved loyalty built on neither bettaying the other keeping what they care about secret not sharing it with eachother either just accnowledging it's there.

Mutual professionalism. Neither giving in to the world telling them how it is.

Don't need to talk about what the right thing to do is.

UAC aomewhat similar throughout. Always power trying to take it over.

what in the flying cunt did i just read?

AR for everything is fine too. Shotguns like the A12 or .50 rifles etc for heavily armoured stuff. LAW for killing cops.

Their weapons will be optimised against women and children. Like katanas. While wearing as much armour as they can, like fat women and annoying children.

Lots of body armour. Lots of support.
Better all AR. AR more professional.

What you have will have a best way for it to be used.

You can make it work better than what anyone else has.

Are you autistic?

I'm honestly surprised duck didn't go extinct.

Verdun.

how does this thing even work?
you've got four barrels, one of which may actually be a magazine tube. but how does that tube magazine feed and then pellets into the three other chambers? is this based on some old and obscure shotgun concept?

Each barrel is an actual barrel.
The design is just that retarded.

Because of balancing reasons, if shotguns had realistic then people would snipe with them all day

I love you, Xavier: Renegade Angel

The Fallout series has some great shotguns.

make the maps bigger, then

It's from a porn game, isn't it?

Sounds like a good thing you fucking kraut.
But, regardless, most the time the guns are fairly realistic.

M8…

this triggers the /k/ommando

Duke Nukem and Solider of Fortune 1 had good shotguns. The spread wasn't huge and could cover a moderate distance. They could also kill certain enemies in one hit if aimed correctly. For duke nukem, shotgun could kill most enemies within 1-3 hits and ammo was plentiful.

Dragons breath. It can litteraly start wildfires if not careful.
youtube.com/watch?v=WwhCygmhbCg

What games let me shoot a 4-bore?

Real shotguns have 1 inch spread per 3 feet of distance, plus pellets lose energy in mid-air so fast they couldn't wound a deer at 100 yards, and 50-60 yards is a maximum effective killing distance.

I miss sniper Hek

Still some of the best shotguns in vidya though.

What does that even mean?

EYE.
Verdun.
Crysis 1.

So every shotgun ever made with any ammunition, even custom stuff?

Good to know.

Most Id games have good shotguns.

you have to hit the "search" button otherwise no servers will pop up.

the shotgun in rising storm is pretty GOAT too.

dat trench gun makes me hhhhnnnnnnnnnnngggggggg

I dunno about realism, but Project Brutality's shotguns felt awesome to use.
They were still usable at long range despite the spread, and you could use Slugs if you wanted a scopeless sniper rifle.

Pretty much any game that lets you put slugs in a shotgun is gonna have good shotguns, I've found.

call of duty ghosts had shit shotguns and you could use slugs in that game

She's an honorary Aryan, you double nigger.

oh look it's this retard again

how long is it in normal units

That obviously doesn't applies to slugs, those are basically bullets. Also this is for 00 buckshot, birdshot tends to exhibit a lot more spread, on top of losing all power at even shorter distances and being wimpier load just in general.

90 meters.

Not accurately or realistic by any stretch of the imagination, but the shotguns in the original Killing Floor felt the best any shotgun has felt in game. They actually had the most realistic range though, compared to other games.

Range is always squashed to balance the game and make incentive to choose other weapons. Otherwise the shotgun would dominate completely. That's why the range is always piss poor.

i want to go on top of a really high building with an aa-12 and rain buckshot at people

This gun makes me uncomfortable.

in 7.62 high caliber shotguns are murder machines
you can buy the first shotgun in the game rush to any city and let the bodies pile up in the streets

Yard ≈ meter

I love hearing this the only damn guns I get int that game are the fucking pipe pistols. so guess what something that does shit damage now explodes for 15 damage ain't that special!

uninstall.exe
i have no time for shitty games

How come there's no games with Wincester lever action shottys?

Because they would be overpowered because most shooting games still play on small as fuck maps and are all basically close quarters maps

...

That's a bullshit argument and you know it. Classic arena shooters had tiny ass maps and still had shotguns that could hit shit more than 5 feet way. Guess what countered shotguns in those games? The same thing that counters them in real life ,armor , yet seems to have been replaced with self cleaning strawberry jelly in modern shooters. Regenerating health a shit.

Marathon. You dual wield double barreled lever action shottys and it's pretty much your bread and butter gun for any close range encounters.

But why? Dont you like sitting behind cover for several seconds so your bloody screen turns back normal and you are all up and ready to go at it again?

You, funny guy. I kill you last.
But seriously I don't have an issue with the concept of regenerating health in FPS, but 99.5% of the implementations of it are just ass.
Far Cry 2 was like one of the few ones I didn't hate to to bottom of my guts.

How did FC2 did it?
I've understood it's not that bad of a game though i only tried it once years ago and didnt play much because fuck niggers and niggerland.

Your health is divided into bars, your health will regenerate to the nearest bar, and you can heal with syringes. If your health goes down to the last bar, you have to initiate a long healing animation of removing assorted shrapnel or bandaging up wounds.

Blood Dragon has one specifically because of your pic related.

no they dont

Shotguns are balanced in a way to make them a sidegrade to a rifle; this means that damage and accuracy are nothing after maybe 10 feet. In reality, most shotguns worth anything have a decent spread of about 50 feet. Because most kill situations in FPS are at about 20 to 50 feet, there's little to no reason to take a rifle over a shotgun. If you wanted to get really real, 2 shots from most rifles and SMGs would likely kill you, as would one from a shotgun. But that doesn't allow for "outplay" or whatever the fuck devs call it, so rifles are king, and shotguns are "situational", and snipers are one hit kills but can't shoot for shit from the hip.

crop that shit faggot

But the damage he did can't be erased.

Fistful of frags has realistic shotguns,
great free game you can find on Steam btw,
yiihaaa

In that case let's do a trade. You can take Britain's "Asians" and we'll take the "German" asians.

In ascending order of realism:
S.T.A.L.K.E.R: COP
RO2
ARMA

As , said if you don't like arcade shit don't play arcade shit.

Shotguns easily have the most unrealistic portrayal in games.

There are people who legitimately think that Shotguns are completely ineffective when fired at range thanks to vidya.

It's also the one instance where an unrealistic trait in a weapon makes it look like shit, normally games do unrealistic shit to glorify the combat.

Just about every game drastically reduces the range and damage of handguns, SMGs, LMGs, Assault Rifles, Battle Rifles and DMRs.

The only games I can think of that don't do this is the ARMA series / Dayz.

Shame most people haven't used a shotgun and think that a lot of video games are 1:1 simulations of reality.

If they're going to balance it that way, then they should just make it so that anything within a 20-ft 90-degree cone insta-dies when the trigger is pulled. Make it so that getting close to shotgunfag means you lose.

yeah. there's a few realistic ones. "muh balancing" is why most shotties in games have melee range. people are just shit at games.

borderlands 1 and 2. anything with over 50 accuracy. anything over 70 and you can hit enemies from half way across the map and do some nice damage especially if the gun is elemental. the maliwan cruxplague is a wild thing with over 50 accuracy.

rainbow six games up to the third. one shot one kill pretty much. the usas in raven shield is fucking nasty

new vegas. hunting shotgun is pretty good at mid range

doom 1 and 2. regular shotty is pretty realistic

duke nukem 3d shotty is bretty gud

first halo had an absolute beast of a shotgun. got nerfed to shit in the next games.

first crysis has a decent shotgun. good damage from afar

Well shit. I stand corrected.

In my defense,

That is normal units.

Virtua Cop

The Depezador shotgun in this game was pretty fucking rad and had very little spread while doing a lot of damage. I remember fucking people up in PvP with it when I could hit them from 50 feet away accurately.

It also takes place in the same universe as EYE
