1080p

I bought a new GPU and a better monitor. The monitor supported 1080p natively, even if it's 12''. I thought it was going to be a huge difference from my 720p monitor/gpu, but the difference isn't much. In fact, on windows and some games, everything is smaller and harder to see. I've realized some games do scale the menus and fonts, although I still don't notice any graphical difference.

I know this is probably an idiotic question, but am I doing something wrong, or 1080p was somehow over glorified?

1080p doesn't make much sense on a 12" monitor. Try again with one that is at least 24".

I connected my PC to my 42" TV that also have 1080p natively to my surprise, and still the same thing. The screen is obviously a lot bigger, but everything else is still too small, for Windows and some games, at least.


What's the point on bigger resolution, then? Is 4k a scam? I'm just fine back at 720p, both in my new monitor and my tv. Although, for videos it does look marginally better.

The way windows does fonts is weird. Each character is a certain number of pixels wide and tall. If you double the number of pixels, then the character will be half the size. You can just increase the font size to something you can read.
