This is compared to all the other characters though. Johnny Cage is like this but only for 50% of the story mode. Cassie does it for 99% of the time. All that doesn't matter when the game goes all gritty and shit and the new Mary Sue is the only one who is still "fun"

The thing about Mortal Kombat and fighting game characters in general, is that for them to work they have to be pretty straightforward– able to be broken down in simple terms. MK's most popular characters are Fire Ninja and Ice Ninja. Fan Ninja, Hat Man, Sai Ninja, Lightning Man, Ghost Ninja, Arm Man. When MK transitioned to the 3D games no one liked, who were the only characters who made it out? Blind Swordsman. Drunk Man. Can someone like Ashrah be described this way? Can fucking Dairou be described this way?

In MKX, who are the characters people like? Aztec Man. Bug Woman. Cowboy Man. No one likes the new generation characters because they're all the same.

A quippy kick butt character with dry sarcasm who's flaw is their overconfidence and their tragic past linked to their parents or older relative. All four main characters have this and we're supposed to find them endearing and fun.

Not to mention all of their designs are boring, except maybe Takeda. But I have no idea who looked at Jaqui and said it was a good idea for a fighting game character's outfit to be a grey block.

I don't know why people keep saying that Kung Jin was all about him being gay when that was mentioned in passing literally once.

Because it bears no significance to the plot and it was brought up with his one-on-one talk with RAIDEN. And Raiden was all about IT IS FAIN BBY WE ALL LUV U.
If the entire talk was how he feels pressured to have to follow Kung Lao's footsteps and the burden and how he is kind of fucking things up it wouldn't be a big deal, but it is fucking shoehorning in diversity for the sake of diversity, just like that tranny healer in Baldur's Gate Siege of Dragonspear.

If you are playing a fighting game then you should be worrying about the gameplay, not crying over a character who is magically strong enough to beat the last boss.

It's kind of moronic to reference Van Damme years and years later, especially after one character already does that and was around when Van Damme was actually popular. It doesn't suddenly make it less shit. Cassie punches balls because Johnny does the same–there's no depth outside of that.

Games can have depth, but you have to ask yourself if a fighting games lack of story and character background is worth sperging out over, since it's not a story driven style of gameplay.

How about a character that's not a splice of other characters at all? You might play video games where Dark Pit is acceptable, but asking for a bit more effort with in the characters in a 60 dollar title isn't that crazy a request.

It was decent with the following characters:

It was absolutely excellent with the following characters:

-D'Vorah
-Kotal Kahn
-Erron Black

So in a series that has been around since 1992, that means this series is 24 YEARS OLD, 2 new decent characters, 3 new excellent characters and 3 fuck ups is actually really impressive.
It's pretty hard to add new characters to such old series and keep them consistent and good, such a result isn't bad at all all things considered.

I am mad about Erron Black becausehe is a straight up replacement for my nigga Stryker.
The shit with Baraka made me mad as well. I understand that he is the series' punching boy but I'd rather have him than fucking alien.

To be fair though, Cassie actually does remind me of a woman, and I didn't believe such things were possible for modern netherrealm.

I think we're gonna get Stryker back at some point.
Tarkatan Alien is literally Baraka with way better moves, mobility and fluidity so i'm 100% sure he'll come back using parts of this new and improved moveset, they put so much work into it they're not gonna just let it go to waste.
Other very likely returns in the next title are Noob Saibot and Rain.

I think the biggest problem with MKX is shit characters. It has more characters than MK9, but it doesn't feel like it at first because each character in MK9 was likeable. I can barely remember the names of second generation, Ferra/Torr can fuck right off since they don't even speak and all those DLC characters are fun in theory but don't really fit in well.
What's worse is that they show the characters from previous game in the story (Kabal, Sindel) but do nothing with it, which is weied since Kabal was very popular in 9.
A friend of mine who is a fan of Shang Tsung was pretty mad that they gave his style to Shinnok instead of making a separate style for each character and I somewhat agree.

It went completely over my head when I played his chapter, I thought his line about how the monks "wouldn't accept me for who I am" was just him referring to the fact that he was an asshole and a thief.

Stryker getting left out from the roster disappointed me but at least he showed up in cutscenes. Baraka being unplayable and then getting killed off upset me. Jade being completely left out and then never even mentioned made me angrier than anything though

It was really lowkey, if all homosexual characters in vidya were handled like he was handled we'd never have a problem with them.
The problem with him wasn't that he sucked dicks literally, but that he sucked dicks metaphorically, as a character.

His personality was lame, his weapon looks fucking stupid and feels completely retarded to use, everything about him is lame and forgettable.

My solution for him is simple: change the weapon into a proper bow, and make him a full on archer focused type of character.
Give him the hood like in his alt costume as his default.
Make him use the blackjack in close quarters.
Basically just make him into Garrett.

Sure it's not especially original, but sure as fuck beats what he's got going on right now.

And do you realize that trilogy had better plot and most of the old characters have better personality compared to MKX? Most of the new characters are uninspired garbage, just like some other characters since MK4. That's why people always hated new characters in MK since MK4 and NRS repeating old mistakes with MKX again. And if you look at concept art it's even more disappointing.

Besides, you actually could enjoy plot in some fighting games. For example, GG plot was somehow enjoyable before SIGN shat on everything.

The fact they made Kung Lao and Kung Jin way too soo similar was awful, i know Kung Lao wasn't written that well but making yet another character that is both arrogant and has an inferiority complex is fucking stupid.
Did ask for Raiden to be possibly corrupted/evil in the next game because it looks like they didn't learn from last time that was done.

Shit did they handle correctly any character from the pre-reboot games because right now i can't think of any such character being better post-reboot

It's not so much the game made a big deal out of it because it really make a big deal of it. It was very subtly handled in one line. HOWEVER news outlets made such a big deal out of it that it became bigger than it actually was. Same thing is happening right now with that same sex couple in that Nickelodeon show.
