The rating basically reflects how likely the state is to pay off debts to those who lend to them. A poor state can achieve a high rating simply by not blowing all the money they borrow. A AAA state is one that you can ALWAYS expect to pay you back if you lend to them. This doesn't necessarily imply they're doing a whole lot of lending though.

This makes Illinois's BBB rating even more embarrassing as this implies they've been borrowing money, spending it, and then not bothering to pay it back.

I know someone currently living in IL who is thinking about moving to MO. This guy claimed that ALL road construction has now been cut off, they will no longer paying workers and the workers will be, for the foreseeable future, laid off. That means IL is going to slowly crumble apart on the infrastructure level.

And Dems will just blame the Trump Administration for their own faults because they'll turn Trumps proposed infrastructure budget around to mean "he promised us free gibs!" I can fucking see the fake news headlines now!

Hopefully this means that people have to leave Illinois for other states. The Democrats kept expecting to be able to have eternal access to free money. I don't see how large numbers of people can keep living in a state where they're literally unable to fix the roads or keep schools open.
