I only played 1&2 but it made sense in terms of world consistency.
Here is how it worked from perspective of developers:
It is in no way good because entire premise of first game was world that is doomed to die, but it makes sense.

From what I remember, it was going to eb stalker online but they only have the pvp arenas up. Maybe they updated something else I havent played in a year

You get cheap ass weapons as if you scavenged them, people die as easily as in stalker but it's a fps arena, there isnt a lot of stalker like tactical gameplay

Browse Twitter and Tumblr for a while, and after you've ripped all your skin off from sheer anger, you might notice that tons of SJWs have some form of anime paraphernalia on their blog. Granted it's mostly from surface-level pleb shit like Sailor Moon and Studio Ghibli, but the overlap exists. Even if they aren't fans of a specific anime, they'll have a borderline fetish for Japanese elements in their "aesthetic" (i.e. Katakana spam, pastel colors, "kawaii" characters and symbols).

Not gonna spoil any more of the plot, but if you play Snatcher you'll find yourself deeply connected with these too. Also honorable mention to Harry. Really all of Snatcher's cast are fucking great. Kojima knows how to make NPCs.
