the AI enemies did nothing wrong; they were all pouring out of a truck and I blew that truck the fuck up and killed them all before they could spread out. The ones that survived were stunned by the truck's explosion (plus that last grenade) for the entire time that that guy grabbed me, so they couldn't shoot me there. They were also heavily damaged by it and would die from shit like ally pistol rounds. It's many times harder to deal with the guys who come out of that truck if you don't go full aggro on it the second its doors open.

Even with all that though, two of them did successfully flank around the left, with that second guy potentially killing me if my AI buddy hadn't called him out.

It's like that because having the AI allies kill enemies effectively would make the game stupidly-easy. They are invincible and only have pistols, so they can only help you in small ways. Really, the most useful things they do for you are to shove grappling enemies off you and to finish off very hurt enemies with their pistols.
But yeah, you're supposed to just watch your own flanks. Your allies are only there to bail you out when you really need help - not to be a crutch for you to rely on. And you can never really *count* on them to do anything for you. You are better off fighting pretending like they aren't even with you.

This right here is the dumbest and worst thing to ever happen in games with friendly AI. They're always worthless bullet sponges who do hardly anything and can't kill something for shit.
It's even worse that games with this usually have semi competent enemy AI, so you see your guys who are supposed to be well trained soldiers or agents or whatever not doing shit while the enemies are actually trying to accomplish something.
Allies should add another element to the game where they have good AI but aren't invincible, so you have to watch their backs and help them survive rather than ignore them and play as if they aren't even there.
If a game as old as republic commando could do this well there's no excuse for a modern game with much better funding and available technology to at least have your allies be highly skilled but mortal.

Payday 2 is perhaps one of the worst offenders when it comes to this shit, like when the fucking bots stand in front of a turrent and keep getting killed every 5 seconds because they're too dumb to move or take cover

To be honest they weren't as useful as the player against tougher enemies and their real potential could only be used when the player commanded then to the specific cover points where they could use sniper rifles or grenade launchers.

meh. I think most people would agree that the player should be doing the heavy lifting in a game like this; watching your bot teammates progress through the level for you is like watching the game play itself. Babysitting them (assuming they're no longer invincible) would be a huge nuisance, too.
In this game, the enemy will always prioritize shooting at you over your allies, and every shot the enemy does fire at them just misses and makes them suppressed behind cover. What is always cool, however, is when your allies do manage to save your life (which happens a ton on the hardest difficulty due to how lethal little things like being grabbed or flanked can be.) They also seem to get more effective at killing enemies while you are on a killing streak yourself, as if to "keep up" with you. And sometimes they do seem to go out of their way to kill enemies moving in on your flanks

I think FFXII had the best AI system in gaming; you could fine tune them to do exactly what you wanted, to the point where they could be so good that you literally could have no need of ever fighting yourself, if you wanted.

I see, thanks for the heads up on the new transfer mode. However, I tried encoding the video as VP8, and that won't loop either, again despite looping fine when I load the file from my hard drive (I have a little userscript to automatically loop all webms). Any ideas?
I've noticed the video loading issues too, but I've checked in the inspector and confirmed that all of these videos, even the ones that refuse to play for me, are being completely downloaded.
Also Mark is just the Holla Forums board owner, he isn't in charge of anything technical. AFAIK Codemonkey is the only guy working on Holla Forums's software now.

In case anyone else is curious, here's the h264 version that refuses to play at all for myself and a number of other people when clicked on, but plays perfect fine when saved and you load the file from your own disk.

Sorry for doubting you. After a fuckload of testing, it turns out this actually is Mark's fault, somehow. The exact same videos play perfectly fine when I posted them on /test/. But not on Holla Forums.
