Basically just remove government funding for student loans, allow students to default on their loans, and stop the debt from staying with you if you declare bankruptcy. That way not only will you have to be serious about getting a well paying job out of your degree before you join but also the university will have the risk of not actually getting money from their students if they default.

My local regular high school lost its accreditation the year before I started there, so a lot of kids in my town went to the area trade school. Probably more than in other years. But don't worry too much, of all the kids I remember going there, I think only a few actually stuck with the shop they chose for their careers themselves. Furthermore this fact was usually due to their fathers working in those same fields. College itself should stay, it's just that half the classes and people are unnecessary. There needs to be so much deadwood cut out. It's like a big summer camp, and I went to study science. You won't really learn until graduate school anyway.
You'll learn that 50% of graduates can't find work in their field. Trust me. I'm one of those graduates. I got a STEM degree, too. Now I'm drowning in debt. College was a mistake. I should have become a welder or something. I'm trucking now, but that doesn't seem to be panning out very well. Maybe I'm just a born failure. Fml.
