More seriously though, Japan doesn't give a fuck. One of the best features of nippon gay/tranny characters is that they don't do it because they want to make some big progressive statement. More often than not these types of characters are played for laughs if attention is even brought to it.
But there's never been a problem with these sorts of characters existing (serious or not), the problem has always been the agenda pushing down the audience's throat.
Want a minority character in a game? Fine, but don't make their sole inclusion to be abused by anti-minority shit just to get sympathy and force the audience to feel a certain way.
If they're written well then who cares? It's just another facet of their person.
