RTS Thread

You will never get to bang Dostya Edition

Why are Cybran best faction in Supreme Commander Anons? And why are the Aeon just a bunch of women on their periods?

...

Mechanically, Aeon are best, as they're the specialist race.

That said UEF suits my playstyle best so I don't play Aeon a whole lot. Cybran look cool but I always end up trying to play them like they're UEF, which doesn't end well.

Sorry I cant hear you over the sound of going independence day on your base, abomination.

...

Cybran are best for one unit and one unit alone.

...

Nigga, your chart sucks donkey balls.

Halo Wars was good for a console RTS.

REMOVE

It's probably there because it was based on a Generals mod that Microsoft C&D'd just to steal the idea and make the exact same thing so they could sell it

Dude every other time someone wanted a game up there they put it up themselves.

...

pretty much this
I think this is the newest so far so i posted

UEF UEF UEF UEF UEF UEF UEF UEF

UEF are trash
They dont understand Aeon and will damn themselves
UEF should just go kill themselves

Yes but they have huge guns.

Pleb.

You have fifteen seconds to excuse why Bermuda Locket is not your favourite map.

They can't shoot that far no more. You actually have to move them up into a more vulnerable place now.

pathetic

What the fuck.

I think Dune did it better

Get out of here Aeon!

Yes, but if we're talking about which one had a greater impact on todays Modern RTS's it would be Dune, although i would say starcraft had the greatest impact of all considering today's RTS are gookclicks
Also there were a few RTS's out before Herzog Zwei, Herzog Zwei just solidified some of the aspects presented in them

Think we will ever be able to start a religion that worships Chris Taylor?

Why I don't have his shrine yet?

have you never played age of empires

Name like, three that aren't Starcraft 2.

You'll have to settle for Chris Roberts, with Star Citizentology and all.

Unfortunately we dont have the numbers
I blame whatever anti-christ that this religion would have for C&C4, supcom 2 and starcraft 2 for destroying good franchises, desecrating whatever companies created them and making the modern RTS gookclick

Giggty Goo, Act of Aggression, 8 Bit Armies

False Prophet

Then we must worship a true Prophet!
Worship Chris Taylor and RTS will be made great again! The sins of the fallen will be erased!

Have any of you guys really played Age of empires?
Its Gookclick in the same way starcraft 1 is
It wasnt made for it but essentially gookclicking gives the player an edge, from dodging catapult fire to mass converting with priests, gookclicking is destroying the franchise
Now that they've bought in the new bots for AoE2 that follow an almost perfect and efficient method to win

How many of those are successful?
How many non-gookclick RTS are there right now?

...

perhaps my definition of gookclick is outdated. i understand it to mean high apm will give a large advantage, especially during engagements.

Absolutely none Except maybe 8 Bit Armies cause they only spent like $8 on it

Ashes of the SIngularity I am unable to judge as I haven't pirated it yet.

Why did you remind me user?
It still hurts, how can they have fucked up the sequel to Act of War?
not including R.U.S.E

Your question should rather specify recent RTS's as the question is referring to "modern RTS"

Also this

Y'got me. I should've just stated outright what I meant.
Gookclick aren't influential. Gookclick games fail. They are not popular. Even SC2 is a shell of its former popularity, and it didn't inspire any successful games compared to the success of CoH and others who followed that were not inspired by gookclick.
Similarly, SC:BW didn't inspire gookclick either, as RTS shifted further towards slower games like Battle Realms, War3, Dawn of War etc.

Kind of like how all MMO's that copied WoW are destined to fail?

Sure, putting it simply.

Spearhead shill here, now with less obnoxious shilling.

I like the beam lazors Cybran get. Playstyle wise though, I'm a sucker for UEF, because of their artillery. Nothing more satisfying driving a few fatboys up and shelling him to-wait no there is. Parking up the UEF tier 3 battleships offshore and shelling him to hell with those.

But damn, having the monkeylord burst out of the sea onto a base never gets old.

Just a reminder Gookclick started because BW was pain in the ass to control.
You actually needed 300 apm because path finding was god damn awful and you could only control 8 units at the time.

SC2 failed to provide same gameplay, RNG, a-moves and other stuff made game less skilful. It might be funny but SC2 failed because it was shit at being Gookclick, mostly because Blizzard bad decisions.

Well just my thoughts after watching how SC2 started and downfall of it.

I agree 100%.
SC2 having fluid movement just resulted in deathblobs where in SC:BW you had to actually manage your armies.

I've always hated C&C, Warcraft and Starcraft (fite me) and I think you just voiced why that is… I love Total Annihilation, (Rome) Total War and SupCom because you're more macro orientated; you focus on actual thinking instead of thinking and trying to control the fucking individual soldiers and reminding them to breathe.
I suppose that's why I like Spearhead in a way; you have to focus on babysitting a handful of units, it's the horseshoe theory with Starcraft in the middle and SupCom on the opposite end.

12 units faggot

Any KKND fans here?

Whats the difference between SupCom2 and SupComFA?

That was 12?
Fuck it was long time since I played BW.

Yeah, the game was pretty cool though I only played the PS1 version back in the day

there is nothing wrong with your opinion mate, honestly I think their focus on micro and not macro was their downside only being able to select 12 units is retarded
tbh for warcraft and starcraft their most prevailing feature was custom maps, without them i would've been playing the other games a majority of the time
Still i liked the hero system in warcraft 3 i preferred WBC3's one though

The protagonist of this is kinda a cunt huh.

SupCom2 simplified the game, removing the huge macro and limiting a lot of the fun that was in the game.

SupComFA was the expansion the SupCom, and it fixed up a lot of the gameplay issues the game had, balanced some things, added some good features and added an entire team. Hugely improved.

Do you guys have any cool gameplay ideas for an RTS game
I'm making one and i need some inspiration
and no a supcomfa clone is not a viable answer

What I want the most is a true successor to warcraft 3.

You forget that the added team was significantly more powerful than the other factions
which i heard was nerfed in FAF but i doubt it
still it was an expansion pack and added tons of content which in comparison to blizzard games outdid them by leagues
For starters

A true successor for warcraft 3 would have a good map creator
Like holy shit that ws the best thing about that game, in it i coul;d actually play macro styled RTS as well as any other genre

an underground layer which is usually not viable to bring larger slower turning units in to.
projectile physics, which go hand in hand with the first idea
shielding. not just an extra layer of health like the protoss, but more in the vein of supreme commander where they are essentially hitboxes that units can walk through but projectiles hit.
useful neutral structures like youll find in command and conquer or warcraft 3.

have you ever played rise of legends? it may have also been in rise of nations but there is this "storming" mechanics where infantry units can be ordered to capture or contest a city, disrupting its production and defenses while slowly converting it to your ownership as long as you had superior military forces in the immediate area like some sort of king of the hill mechanic.
damaging the city would reduce the required infantry, increase the speed at which it was captured and damage your infantry less upon success.

You could try mixing aspects from different games
Like say city shipments in AOE3, Heroes from WBC3 and units from red alert 2 would be pretty neat
But most of all i would be looking at a map creator, but thats generally the hardest thing to make in a game
Also a level generator would be pretty swell

You better not be making it in unity

Why would anypne release a supcomFA clone when FAF exists? The game has reached it's apex there and cannot be improved upon anymore without breaking it.

as much as i liked rise of legends i don't think i really liked the way cities worked
i think it's a little to constricting on how you can build
also the game will be completely 2D so projectile physics aren't really viable

I'm using sfml

weren't city shipments the stupidest part of that game?

...

How far along are you? Have you considered something a bit less barebones like angel2d?

I guess they were trying to fill the void of god powers from AoM.

Remake Submarine Titans?

is unity really that bad?
I mean I'm a complete stranger in using game engines and i cant see it being good for an RTS but didn't it do ok in the game "Inside"?

No that would be resources, city shipments was the most different part of the game, which pissed off all the AOE2 fans
In reality it was new and pretty good but not really age of empires-esque

I knew i was having deja vu from somewhere

Other than subhunters, Seraphim don't seem that much stronger in FAF, but every team has that 'best unit'.

I have basics working
technically i could start adding units and structures and testing them
it still needs a good bit of polish though

Man, I love how Dostya wasn't a traitor. Her appearence and the russian accent of course lazily made you suspect that. Also fuck you Hex5.

I just want to attero dominatus with Dostya.

I honestly dont play FAF
I really should though, its just that the wiki doesnt display stats for the units which i regularly check when forming strategies

Yes. Every game that uses it tends to be unoptimized or runs like complete ass. To this date each time I've heard people say "Muh Unity Shit Engine meme" they have yet to produce a SINGLE game that doesn't run like ass on Unity. Also netcode is a massive issue. Seriously anything Unity does and Cryengine for that matter UE4 does a fuckton better and faster!

Watch some of Gyle's stuff. He does a pretty good variety of stuff, from Epic's (usually 4v4's that reach experimentals), to Average Joe's (which are much more scrappy and surprising) to your more run of the mill competitive games.

Yeah, it has all those things although the shield thing was only against those fuckhueg artillery pieces like orbital or tectonic cannon.

Though it wasn't the first game that did underground layer(s). Might have been Earth 2150 but not positive on that

His Brexit special was fun and there was a lot of butthurt in the comments. Also made me like him even more

Seraphim t3 sub hunters aren't even that good anymore, and since the seraphim don't have naval experimentals like the aeon(also have t3 torp bombers) and the UEF, they eventually lose the sea game regardless of how many subhunters they shit out.

On a side note, anyone ever noticed how much the Cybran and Aeon look like factions from Battle Engine Aquila?

Well shit. I was hoping I could get someone else to use my dead obscure engine that I found. It seems to be good even though it is abandoned.

well this looks sexy. where has this been all my life?

well the storming mechanic neednt necessarily be against rise of legends cities. i imagine it working well and fitting thematically with fortresses/castles/power plants/comm centers, really any time you want a 'capture' mechanic.
were they? i would heavily disagree. theyre what kept me playing it as long as i did, a fun twist that fit really well with the colonization theme and it kept the pacing interesting. there was always something to do that wasnt just an apm increase.
building the 'deck' was fun and a genius way to make each faction stand out even more if you desired.

Well they have rather common sci-fi looks to them. One is the i-phone white all sleek type of asthetic while the other one is the all red and black and edgy and spikes kind of future look.

the thing i didn't like about city shipments
was that you needed to level up cities
it honestly kinda ruined the whole system for me

Metal Fatigue. A hidden gem, kind of. It has some weaknesses some neat features and cool asthetics but it's definitely worth a play. If you can get it working on your modern system.

Milagro a best

It was moire suited for those who enjoyed RPGs, but the expansions automatically put cities to level 10 which is when half the good shipments come in the other half at level 40, still it was rather annoying leveling up cities, as well as that extremely fucking annoying max xp cap per games
At some point that just started up games with 8 computers killed as many things until i hit the cap and restarted, literally took me a whole day to level up to 40, fuck that shit
Still it was rather quite some fun

What really annoyed AoE fans was the unlimited regenerating resources apart from wood, unless your india, which in that case enjoy your villages that cost 100 wood each the shipment that undoes this comes at level 30-ish and is completely useless at that point because you've got the best wood city shipments that make it a benefit

it's like you people lack REAL strategies

any way to play a pirated copy with others? virtual network or something

Care to try again nigger?

come on now

That's the same in Wargame, unless something changed since EE

How do I into Red Alert

Am I the only one who enjoyed starcraft 1 & 2? Sure it was gookclick, but once you immersed yourself in that vein of autism it was fun to play a game so heavily decided on skill. I would argue that the real game deciding moments don't really come down to who has better micro ( although it does sometimes happen ) as much as it is about the macro leading up to the big confrontations
As much as I loved sc2, I'm fairly neutral about its popularity practically dying out. After all, blizz brought it on themselves for all the shit decisions they took

srs?

Q: What defines a gookclick aside from clicking a lot.

The fuck do you mean, you play it like any other game.

What? Back in the day, Seraphim was almost universally considered the red-headed stepchild of the factions and hardly anyone played them. The only thing about them that people kept complaining was OP were their experimental bombers.

Oy vey, I hope you're supporting the devs by purchasing the upcoming Israel DLC!
Add me on steam, I lust heartily for wargame at all times.
Steam: Misojner

What? You have a limited number of troops you can call in, as well as limited logistics.

Yeah, but the actual resources are unlimited is my point. He's right about limited troops, but not the resources even if that makes resources pointless after a certain point.

Somehow that chart makes my autism hurt.
Also no, obviously you weren't the only one to enjoy SC1 or even 2 though personally I played almost exclusively custom maps which were great fun despite being quite limited pre-WC3

SC2 would've had a chance if Blizzard didn't hire that David Kim retard to be in charge of balance, but because of that one dense motherfucker it was doomed from the start. To put things into perspective, he already had a reputation for completely ruining RTS balance before he even joined Blizzard, namely Dawn of War's expansions.

I don't own a legit copy, user I can't afford it
if you know of a way to play with a pirate I'd be glad to play

I meant logistics, not resources. You have infinite resources but you will eventually literally run out of bullets.

I see. I thought FOBs regenerate supplies slowly, but I suppose that's not true. Guess I was thinking of Sudden Strike supplies.

I might just be retarded and failing to understand, but isn't logistics a resource?
If you're saying "only requisition is a resource", then it's technically unlimited, but you run out of things to call in.

Spam Tonk.

Unfortunately I am unaware of a way to do this. Hit me up if you ever acquire shekels and buy a legit copy, though.

FOB's have limited supply, 16000L I think.

Yeah it is, see

I was just thinking of units, not supply as well.

Doesn't always work. Like if they have to fight 20+ veteran GIs

To be fair, capri sun is pretty fuckin good. I wouldn't mind being supplied like that

Capri-sun is a proud sponsor of NATO's AA missiles. Thanks Wargame.

IFVs with snipers usually work against that, but if you are Germany or America you could use jumpjet infantry. For soviets you could always bring overpriced choppers or use V3's if they're entrenched. Vetted tanks of any faction also instagib infantry but they're not exactly good versus swarms of them.

It's because a liter describes matter in 3D 1 liter = 1 dm cubed

Yeah, there's ways to deal with them, but I'm not sure if vet grizzlies or rhinos instagib them. The apocalypse tanks will, though. With tanks your best bet would be to try and run them over anyway.
Prism tanks and radioactive stuff like demo trucks, ivan-IFVs or desolators should also work.

Still, vetted GIs in a swarm pretty much wreck anything they can shoot at including your framerate

Where would you get that many vet GIs before spy tech? Genuine question, I don't know much about RA2's meta but most matches I've seen tend to devolve into tank spam before anyone can tech up.

You know, this image gets me thinking: what if "The Two Towers" are not actually both Barad-Ur and Isengard? Maybe one of them is Cirith Ungol or Minas Tirith.

Spearhead shill here. Anyone up for a game of it with me? Downloading EDF 4.1 but I want my RTS fix.

...

It's true, you know.

Dunno, been maybe a decade or more since I played it MP.
I guess lucky last hits with them and keeping the vets in the back? Also crates.

Well if you're a scrub that'll happen. Don't underestimate them

forgive my retardation

user come on

Main meta is spam tanks and use dogs as scouts/fire bait since IFVs and crushing takes care of infantry like they don't mean anything and tank takes care of everything else.

That said, you could also use Navy Seals since they only need radar tech, the soviet equivalent to that would be a suicide flaktrack with Ivans.

I wonder, is it even possible to make Chrono-Ivan viable?

Well, it probably takes too much preperation and the cost is too high, but you can do some damage with it. If you micro it with tiny jumps it's pretty hard to hit for anything but hitscan weapons and not easy to catch for dogs.
You can rig some buildings with it or units even, although I don't think tanks even die in one bomb.

I guess you could do some damage to a relatively undefended base but not really much else. The upside is that interception is harder and escaping much easier

Planetary Annihilation is a pile of shit, right?

It's fun to pirate and play around with.

Yes, but dry measure isn't the same, afik.
Inb4 all litres in Wargame are actually measures of bullets. Missiles are bullets.
Fuel is also bullets.
Spare soldiers are, in effect, just more bullets.
We are bullets.

Yes. I'll get some text together to illuminate any anons contemplating buying it like I did. Save yourselves, don't share my disappointment.

Planetary Annihilation was kickstarted as a successor to Total Annihilation and Supreme Commander. *If for some reason you didn't know.**

*The devs advertised planets as a huge feature, but the planets themselves have no design to them at all. At least maps can be well-crafted even if they're ultimately boxed areas for you to play in. They're often small, and terrain advantages are random.

*T4 Experimentals were going to be in the base game, but the devs never added them in. Months later, we get told that there will be a paid "Titan" DLC adding in Experimentals.

*The AI is dumb as a fucking brick, same build everytime. It reminds me of the late 90's/early 2000's.

*You pay for extra commanders. At least CoH2 has copmmanders with different abilities. PA has nothing of the sort, it's 5 bucks for a skin.

*Last I played, there was still no tutorial. nothing.

*'Factions' are identical. You play as a different colour, goy.

*The optimisation problems were huge last time I've played, no idea if the devs fixed it. Friends with good rigs that could run any other game could not even play this at more than a handful of frames.

*The claimed single player with 'galactic campaign' is an empty grindfest. You fight a bunch of battles over and over, then fight a few AIs on the same time as a boss encounter.

*The base ideas are cool, and I'd love a game that features an orbital layer, but not with this level of shoddy execution.

If I saw the devs being executed by ISIS I would shed a single tear of joy. From a sperg who has played and loved RTS games from C&C to SupCom to CoH to the Earth series, I entreat you not to buy this game, or PA: Titans. Fuck these devs.

Oh and fuck Digital Extremes too for ruining Warframe, Warbros #1

Make a big distraction to an enemy who is entirely focused on offense and has no static defenses, deploy bombs in middle of his base, preferibly on tech structures and radar instead of his MCV as that way he is forced to rebuy shit and shift his eco, again, gaining you more time. Chrono-Ivan is shit though, Chrono-Seal is easier to get and it's pretty much the same unit but with an instakill gun and instadestruction C4.

This pretty much. You could also give your dude a waypoint route to bomb all the buildings so you can focus your attention elsewhere and not have to micro it as much if there's a big diversion battle going on

You'd better not be saying SupCom has no real strategies.

You know if I wasn't praying to fucking Nurgle at the moment I'd be up for getting into Wargame again. Just too sick at the moment.

No worries. If you're up for it in the future, add me on steam, so we can Wargame.
Inb4 you already have me on steam and you're in the Warbros TS already.
Misojner
I'll never stop shilling, never!

Nurgle…? Dreg, is that you?

This thread is going places
Its a shame DE raped the players and ruined going sanic,
Also they added those shitty flying machines and are making shit warframes

==AND WORST OF ALL== Fucking Potatoe Children

Playing the Broken Crescent mod for Medieval 2 as Kingdom of Jerusalem. Goddamn the campaign map music is super fucking cozy.

I honestly never got into Warframe, if it was a super autistic stealth game I'd be all over it but it just seemed like a speedy dakkafest which don't get me wrong can be fun, but was not what I was looking for since if I wanted that I'd just play Quake III or Unreal Tournament.

Anyway back to RTS, what are some good C&C3 mods? Despite what people say about that game the mods for it are pretty damned good if I recall?

Dunno user, although i prefer Redalert 2, Anyone here played mental omega?
It comes across a bit generals-like with the factions specializing perhaps a bit too much?

Also some of the missions in warframe were stealth, but most of the time it was combat as it should be
only a few of the stealth missions were actually fun

I have it on my machine but haven't played it yet. I wanted to run it in windowed mode so I could pause and do other things, but no such luck, so I'm just waiting for a good time to set aside a few hours and play.

whoever made that webm clearly never heard of the x key

...

It's more a joke user that there's no autoevade in C&C games, infantry will just stand there and get run over.

C&C > Rest of the RTS

There is literally no problem with that, otherwise i wouldn't be able to fight off whole infantry platoons with my resource collector

Thats just your opinion user And its Wrong

I don't like Mental Omega much. Asides from making infantry useless for everyone at anything that isn't killing enemy tanks and giving spies to all factions, Soviets are heaps amount of underpowered unless you like playing chinese with nuke tanks. Yuri HQ and America are also quite overpowered and i don't get the point of giving Japan an infinite-ranged and overpriced artillery superpower then making it unable to target enemy buildings outside of minimal splash damage.

That said, it's much better balanced than standard RA2YR at least until lategame. Kinda wished the campaing wasn't filled with noobtraps and massive zergs in every goddamn corner of the map, it's got potential to be good and challenging but isn't quite there yet.

Salvation is kinda shit TBH fam, I've seen Seton's bases tank it indefinitely where a Mavor would have punched through the shields.

You bet i do, i play it from the release in 2014

I know, but my nostalgia glasses are glued to my face, so in my personal opinion C&C > everything else

Nothing beats a Resource Collector rush :^)

You say that as if the War Miner in RA2 wasn't a tech 0 bullet sponge

Oh I've done a fair few War Miner rushes in my time user.

Remembering Warframe's promise, and DE's complete inability to fix anything, along with their constant lying… is bringing me to a slow boil.
Excuse me while I step outside and contemplate bringing the religion of peace to DE's offices.

The pure, unbridled, rampant animal lust that I feel while squashing little infantry mans with my tib harvesters has brought me to many a climax.

Oh fuck, I remember this now. We only got to see the slightest pre-alpha ingame trailer, essentially a mockup. From what little we got to see, it looked like it'd turn out as some bastard lovechild of Total Annihilation/Supreme Commander's economy & combat, a sort of bootleg Warcraft 3 aesthetic & unit variety, and late-series Total War hamsterballing, except in a nonrealistic setting where all the troops splitting off into a clusterfuck of personal duels made perfect sense. It could've been extremely good. But because of the uncertain PC retail market at the time, they couldn't find a publisher, it got put on indefinite hold and GPG got farmed out by Microsoft to Age of Empires Online just to keep the doors open. The freemium market didn't exist yet, digital distribution wasn't totally ubiquitous just yet, and the game was too big for Kickstarter at five to six million dollars. As the cherry on the shit cake, GPG got bought by Wargaming in 2013 after Wildman fell through. They haven't developed anything since. I can't believe it's been six years since K&C was announced with nothing but the one trailer to show for it, I thought it looked fantastic for such an early peek just for the apparent concept. What an awful, shameful mess this is.

I wonder if GPG could've weathered the storm if Squenix hadn't hamstringed them with SupCom 2. Why did it diverge so much from the original? Was it Square's meddling, or what?

We really need to get a drawfag in here and draw Chris Taylor as the God Emperor of RTS Gaming. Maybe through meme magic we can get Kings and Castles made

True, but its slow fire rate and small AoE make its useless against units shame it just destroys bases instead
The cybran one however has no excuse, it also can be blocked by shields indefinitely
I once held out for over an hour when i fought this new faggot
Went pretty much like this
At least I taught him a lesson right anons?
I didn't lose because i was the first one to stop playing right?

Cost is a big part of this. The Scathis is much cheaper than the other artillery and can still win you the game, or at least explode any forward bases if it can't take out their main. These are FAF costs, by the way.

Mass cost

Energy cost

Its kind of painful that the mavor has twice the range and can kill shields yet only costs a 10th more than the salvation
Truly being Aeon is suffering, still…
at least I'm not Cybran Trash

That pic is meant to be as cancerous as possible, right?

Yep
although it doesnt detract anything from Mags Uselessness

COH2 a shit.
A SHIT.
Even with mods it is still shit. Why is it so shit?

You literally play an Aeon faggot. you are the type of guy that likes to take dildos up the butt while playing and cry that they will never get their period.

Fuck forgot my image.

Whats that faggot? i cant hear you over your shitty scathis being unable to pierce my shields
Maybe if the Cybran could actually put two brain cells together they might be able to think of a method to actually compete with superior Aeon
unfortunately Cybran dont use their brain cells because they rely on inferior cybernetics

You, I like you :^) We need more SupCom shitposting.

So what the fuck did that Cybran retard do anyway? Did he even attempt map control? Cause if there is one thing that gets me madder than Pansy ass Aeon, it's fucking Cybran Wannabees that can't into Cybran. Been years since I played and trying to get back into it but basically if you aren't putting constant pressure as Cybran and controlling the map then you may as well fuck off and play United Earth Fags.

Your experimentals are shit.

So what's up strategy fags? I see none of mods I'm following have providing nothing interesting in a while, except for some Mental Omega updates, and no interesting RTSes in development… am I missing out something?

No, the shitty watered-down game mechanics were GPG's decision. The shitty writing, on the other hand, absolutely reeks of Square. Together, they combine to form the most cancerous RTS ever made.

RTS is dead, you should know better than to expect anything

Dawn of War 3 is under development. inb4 the colours are oversaturated and Gaybriel Angelos is a moba hero.

But yeah, I feel you. Homeworld: Sandniggers ended up having a joke of an AI on release and still isn't all that deep. Ashes of the Singularity is… seems to want to be SupCom but isn't. Planetary Annihilation is weak AF.
I really wish that game hadn't bombed, thanks shit devs.

What the blueberry fuckmuffins am I missing?

Ultimate Apocalypse mod for Soulstorm is still updated. Whenever I see a nerf on necrons I die a little inside (which has been happening for most patches since may 2015), but they still resurrect so I am happy.

Think that's fucked up, just look at Rise of Legends

no, RTS is dead, we're all playing older games

These nigga's know what's up. UEF is best faction!

good times.

Dawn of War III is shaping up to be a disappointment. It'll be another C&C 4, wouldn't it?

Its ok to be indecisive when picking games out
Otherwise i might actually end up playing one

nah, its going to be DoW 2 for DoW 2
I cant believe anything can be anywhere near as a bad as C&C4 apart from supcom2

UA for SS is fucking GOAT. Hit me up on steam if you want a game (inb4 bazillion updates).
Misojner, the same faggot shill who's been ranting about Wargame: Red Dragon.

Relic could personally come to my house, hold me down, and shit onto my face; and it would still not be a smidgen of an iota of a single speck of the disappointment that was C&C4.
At first I thought it was merely that I was jaded. Getting rid of bases wasn't even the worst part, it combined with the rock-paper-scissors ensured that every match became "rush into building X unit and win".
Kane making friends with GDI then disappearing off Earth because "uh, mystery", the Scrin never being brought up, the mutants just disappearing… I wailed and gnashed my teeth, but nothing could undo what EA had wrought: a really, really fucking bad game. Not just a bad C&C game: a fucking turd under any banner.
If I ever commit suicide, it will be blowing up EA's headquarters with a smile on my face.

God Speed user, God Speed!

DOW 2 looks better and had a much better cover system user.

Cossacks 3 is coming out on September 20th.

Nope

Cossacks 2 wasn't that bad, i enjoyed ordering the volleys.
Also Cossacks 3 is supposed to be more of a remake of the first game.

What do you do after whooping the Egyptians? After I conquered the Nile area and Antioch I was too lazy to keep going as KoJ. I had a desire to rule the whole fertile crescent with righteous Templar steel, however the lack of recruitment options outside of the starting area killed my enthusiasm. The music is good.

My current med2 kick is from Beginning of the end times, as Wissenland you can build a plumed pike and shot army in tights.

People disliked 2?
I thought it was superior because it forced formations and 2D art of buildings was amazing.

Apparently people didn't like to micro the formations and having to manually order them to shoot was a dealbreaker, also something about capturing villages.

Dunno, i wasn't really around to see the criticisms as it released and personally i quite liked the gameplay.

Want to play some C&C, never played any

Where do I start?

From the beginning, or if you really don't want to play C&C/RA1 for some reason from Tiberian Sun or Red Alert 2, there is some plot continuity between the games though.
Generals is also a good game with some nice mods available but it's pretty different,
C&C3 is a fun game, but it's another change.
RA3 is just too dumb even for RA.
C&C4 doesn't exist

Its a reboot, and remake of 1.

cnc-comm.com/
Play the first 3 games, then move up the food chain until Generals. C&C3 is fun but it's hit'n'miss even with Kane's expansion, i don't think there's a sequel for it. RA3 is shit i don't recommend it at all.
Consider playing some mods as well, there's some great stuff out there for TS like Twisted Insurrection.

I also liked cossacks 2 because of the period. The thing that rubbed me the wrong way was that the artillery had nearly no range at all, but otherwise I did like some of the things they did with the neutral settlements, formations and such.

This user gets it.
C&C is very 90's, but don't let that put you off. Sit back and enjoy the sheer cheese and aesthetic, as well as the gameplay. If C&C fails to satisfy you, at least download the OST. Frank Klepacki is the fucking man.
If you disagree please kys my dude

C&C2: Tiberium Sun and RA2 were the last in the series made by Westwood. EA did C&C3 and they did a decent job (apparently couldn't get Klepacki for the soundtrack although afaik they did try).

Then EA did RA3, and while the Red Alert series has always taken the piss a bit, RA3 WAS the piss. That said, it's not irredeemable.

C&C4 is a black pit of despair, into which the last dregs of my hope for a better world were pulled into.

I'm here asking if anyone wants to play Dawn of War with any mod, I've been looking for people to play with for quite a long time.If anyone is interested then add me. Nothing better than throwing hundreds of guardsmen at a wall of enemies.
steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198046761848/

How can someone play more hours of fallout 4 than AOE2?

I have the disk of AOE2 and got it as a gift on steam. Fallout 4 I spent a lot of time trying to get mods to work. In the end, it wasn't worth it even if I got it for free. It's a bad game

Wait hold on, out of all the games you could pick on me for, you choose fo4? Not WT or CSGO?

In a match of Total Annihilation's ARM or CORE vs Supreme Commander's UEF/Cybran/Aeon/Seraphim, who would win and why?

I remember reading how TA has some seriously broken in-game lore when it comes to weaponry, like how every measly missile is actually tipped with some anti-matter warhead and how the units are all coated with some sort of "A single atom spread into a thin layer" crazy shit. I wonder how would that compete with the weapon tech you find in Sup Com.

TA destroyed their entire galaxy, Supcom only destroyed a few planets, also i think total TA had larger machines

...

Ravensburg's knows what's up.

Some of the stuff you see in supcom may seem way more advanced in tech than TA's stuff but when things such as pic related are considered T2 Stationary Artillery instead of Experimental, you get to realize that much of their tech was pretty much destroyed during the 500-year-long total war. ARM and CORE at the height of their power were able to destroy entire Galaxies.

This fucker here could solo any supcom unit or army

Favourite RTS unit?

Mine is recon bike from Nod. I liked that they could shoot over walls and out range some defenses. It made them seem like a slightly more versatile early game unit that in another RTS could really have shined. And in Tiberium Sun they had the absolute coolest shooting noise.

Mirage tanks from RA2 or Uhlans from AoE3
Alternatively I really like my Harbingers Mark IV heavy assault bots

meant for

Radically changes the art style and feel of the game to be closer to the original. Nod has cyborgs again and GDI has mech warriors, scrin looks and feels more alien.

moddb.com/mods/tiberium-essence

The regular base game on steroids, imports a lot of units from Kanes Wrath, fixes a lot of balance issues and gives engineers the ability to repair neutral buildings.

moddb.com/mods/tiberium-wars-advanced

These are basically the only 2 good mods worth looking into.

Who wants dry cyber pussy?
UEF Expiermental Cannon FTW
I'd own you so quickly with UEF against Cybran.

No, no it's not. It's really not. I know you want to convince yourself that the pretty game was good, but that's just you being a faggot. The game was shit. It didn't make sense, it didn't tell an actual story, and it was produced to send a message using a cybernetic whore rather than the title character. You're an absolute retard and I want this meme to die. Take your CD-ROM and cram it as far up your ass as possible until you rupture something.

Forged Alliance was a good game.

Yeah, but FAF is trash and not really relevant to regular SCFA.

It's one of the largest communities for SupCom. I could look up the normal values if you like, but I have a feeling they're going to be similarly stacked.

What the hell is that? An image for ants?

UEF = Holla Forums-tier starship trooper jocks forcing their fascist views on everyone

Cybran = /r9k/-tier goth nerd cyborgs who want to be left alone to feel in peace

Aeon = SJW-tier feminist, wiccan, islamic fundamentalists worshiping ayylamo's cleansing the galaxy of all those who won't listen and believe

Seraphim?

SJWs were the result of seraphim infecting the AI's of the cybran and the Extremists of the Aeon, which means Sjws are servants of the jew/Seraphim
Aeon is actually Catholicism mounting a crusade against the aggressive sand nigger nation known as the UEF, Cybrans are degenerates who can't make their own mind up and pretend not to be like the UEF but are actually worse

...

...

But thats wrong, its the UEF that think themselves the guys in charge, The Aeon has a masterplan to convert all the heretics, the UEF just wanted to blow up their planets with the black sun
MAVOR IS SHIT!!!
ITS SHIT!!
SHIT

Of courshe. They expect one of us in the wreckage.

Getting shelled by one would be extremely painful

If i drop an independence day on your Mavor will you die?

Are Red Alert 3 and Starcraft 2 worth playing.

Wings of Liberty is an alright campaign. However, Heart of the Swarm might make you want to kill yourself. It's so boring you can beat it with basic defense units.

Red Alert 3 is okay to play with a buddy, but if you don't have one the game provides an AI buddy who does okay. The campaign is fine and has some nice variation and okay difficulty, but don't be surprised if you find the game off putting. The Japan faction seems out of place, much more cartoony and sci-fi. Some of the unit abilities are also a bit wonky. The expansion to RA3 is worthless unless you want to play the challenge mode where its a series of time trial maps mixed with unit unlocks that can be kind of fun, but they mostly just added OP units in it.

...

And also the worst.

They won't. The Scathis is priced as a game ender but suffers from a similar problem to the Salvation; it just doesn't have the concentrated firepower to pench through stacked shields.

That mode was a load of fun.
A true puzzle game in RTS format.

But at least the aoe (if it doesnt land on the shield) affects things inside the shields right?
All i know is that i was once dwindled down as the things inside my shields blew up one after another

That'd probably be because, on investigation, Non FAF Scathis has the same DPS, range and explosion radius as the Mavor, costs less energy to upkeep and can move (though moving is kind of irrelevant).
The main significant difference is the Scathis shoots every 1.9 seconds for 3k damage and the Mavor shoots every 8 seconds for 12k damage. The creators of the game probably looked at the maths and thought they were on the right track.

Isn't it the largest?

I have never had a negative encounter in FAF after around 150-200 games. Care to elaborate?

Probably the largest.

What constitutes a negative encounter?

Anything that would make me empathetic to his claims of it having a bad community.

Jesus Christ, I forgot how awesome the Thera mod is for Medieval 2.

...

...

>Looks like my penis

Hey Holla Forums rate my OC

Breddy gud. Especially like the red alert 2 and original war

Impressive, very nice.

Why would you remind anyone that that piece of shit game exists?

...

RTS as Spongebob pictures 2.0 out, any more suggestions?

Oh don't be so easily triggered. Else Superman 64, Spore, Ghostbusters 2016, Batman & Robin :^)

Nice

Haven't ever seen that mentioned on Holla Forums

Constructor is great, pretty interesting city builder / RTS hybrid.

Oh yeah, I know it, got the cd somewhere in the attic. Think I've only ever seen my brother play it like 15 years ago

I love this new meme.

Wasnt there one for RTS factions?

This one? It's only Command and Conquer though.

Yes.

Also hrees another I found in /tg/.

lol

I don't know guys, this Beastmen stuff is looking pretty good.

No, I don't own Total WaWa and I feel like the only one on Holla Forums who didn't buy it despite the fact that I think it looks good and I want to play it

youtube.com/watch?v=FFW54sq5H8s
youtube.com/watch?v=fMOqfsBzqLU

why?
also

True. Anons pirate and the shills get it for free anyway.

Really though, lots of people here buy shit games all the time

I'm autistic, so if I can't embed both then I won't.

I think the point is that there is not anything good made recently
the "wait for dawn of war 3" scares me now

I feel like it is missing 2 or 3 units. Also why buy it now? they are basically patching in some missing stuff from the launch so buying it early at release price gives you the worst product.

only games I've bought in two years are ones that i pirated before hand
they were all on GOG and pretty old
Why are RTS's so shit now days?

Why would waiting for anything scare you when you already know its going to be shit?
Enjoy your cross between DoW2 and MOBAs

I think the last game I bought was a joke gift to a friend
Pic related

When will they ever be satisfied user?
Will there be a time when games are fun again?
I am so full of rage

wrong pic

I think I was the only person who ever posted Total WaWa Hammer

because its a cancerous DLC-fest of a game
less people buy dlc here than actual games, so of course they are a minority

fagets

no you

...

Why is everything so shitty?
There aren't even players on the TA:ESC lobby on GR, it's hell for anyone trying to get a game going.

Damn user I thought I had it bad.

I want Medieval 3 Total War

But CA are jews, so it will suck and I will still buy it because it's the only strategy niche I enjoy anymore.

You really want another Total War game user with the Warscape engine? Think about what you're saying user!

I didn't say that

But CA implied it on my behalf by being jews.

I am an addict, I have almost 1.1k hours on Attila

...

Here's a Beastmen roster and campaign video for those curious.

Who are these people? No wonder RTS is limping along these days…

What was that, mind raping oppressor? I couldn't hear you over the sound of me building an invisible army that's currently skirting around the outside of your sensor net. I hope you're ready for the "surprise, motherfucker!" that will be broadcast on all channels as we open fire.

Wait, you don't have a simulation of her personality and body as a mod to 'shamefully_kinky_shit.exe', you poor bastard, wait up, I'll send you the files. I always have that shit running in the background, you'd be amazed at what she's into.

So … it's incredibly thin, takes forever to get started, is an amazing disappointment, and probably wasn't worth her time in the first place.

My condolences I guess.

I mean, mines more like the Yolona Oss, but good for you for not being ashamed of something you can't change.

You're just jealous because it finishes my opponents.

How do we fix RTS and the community. The answer is to go back to the good days and make some raw and shining ideas, but how do we advance the genre and make it so where its popular and good.

Ironically, we wouldn't even need to 'advance the genre'. We would just need to use old ideas and polish them up like Battle Realms/Dawn of War forced melee, general abilities from C&C/BFME and hell, even Heroes could be an acceptable addition so long as they were a late game purchase instead of the main focus of the game.

RIP aoe2 games

Is there really no way to put a good 90 or 180 spin on RTS.

AoE 2 had the shittiest units and setting of the series (everything after 3 and it's expansions are just purgatory) so its no big deal.

Verdict on Openra?

BFME2 did heroes pretty well, apart from the ridiculous unbalanced abilities, you could either grab one early game and try and level it up or grab one later when you have a better economy
tbh i just want my horsemen/tanks to actually run over infantry, Goddamn every game that has cavalry just stop and strike the enemy at melee range
Although DoW did heroes pretty poorly apart from the campaign, especially considering they were almost exactly the same as any of the other units you could only build a few or one of

Alternatively you could make the hero an optional main focus of the game like HoAE, or if anyone here has played the map "Heroes and empires "for Warcraft 3

Keep telling yourself that user, I'm sure your gf's commander blew up due to your devastating artillery unit and that she didn't just fake it to make you feel better

Butthurt Reddit devs who are Swedes (I needed a password change but I wasn't getting any emails so I messaged the FB page for a new one and his name was Sven Tor?????). If you wanna play C&C get the First Decade compilation.

this guy has the right idea

I cant tell if anything ever came after 3 but its just as possible that i subconsciously removed anything about it from my memory
supcom 2 and C&C4 never happened

Yeah, that was my biggest issue with it. Always wondered why they made engineers such shit, since they were beyond worthless in rushes yet fine in classic and dune. Glad to know it was just swede cucks being cucks

Oh don't worry user, my girlfriend is Aeon and the game doesn't end until she's annihilated.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Age_of_Empires#Games.

Wikipedia articles can be edited
mayhaps the developers decided to remove a crude stain from the eyes of history?
Obviously they didnt try hard enough, i can still remember the foul taste of Halo wars

Have I failed to impress upon you how goddamn great this mod is?

It makes cnc3 go from good game to great game.

I'm going to try that out then user
C&C3 came is probably my least liked C&C games if we dont count the ones that are genuinely bad games C&C4 and RA3, less so RA3 but still…

Does it incur any framerate drops or a requirement for better graphics?
Because i know Shockwave and a few other mods for generals are advertised here and they absolutely rape my frame rate

Can someone post the greentext of the OpenRA devs getting their asses beat because of an Engi rush forcing them to change a game fundamental? Its been too long and the deets are fuzzy and a buddy wants to hear it

...

The worse part is that the devs cant even see what they were doing was wrong
They lose in a single game because of their own ineptitude and then they make it the games fault
Its like they're fucking retarded or something

Well we dont need it honestly, theres CnCNet to play OG RA, we should try get some games going tbh I love the originals gameplay

am i a bad person

No I played tons more general MP than I did RA1 ever, I just like the way RA1 plays MP compared to Generals

No, isn't RA2 the best in the series and the one everyone loves the most.

nice smoking opinion buddy, Whats your point? I never disputed that RA2 was inferior to either of those, so why the fuck even bring it up?

...

...

It's turned into an RTS cringe thread!

Post more?

...

If you set a time we can do some matches today, been a fucking long time since i've played anything in RA that isn't with garbage pubs who can only speak in 2003's l33t and just do tankrush strats like if the game lobby was fucking reddit or something.

...

going to sleep now, im in Aus, 3am for me, I really wanna play tho
fugg, ill watch the thread and check it later today to see if anyone else is interested

No worries mate, i got nothing to do all day due to power outages in the work section of my town so post whenever you get back and we'll get something going.

Spearhead shill here. Who's up for a game? My usual bros aren't around atm and fuck bots.

If your comp can't handle Shockwave you need an upgrade.

As far as cnc3 and tib essence goes, I don't know. There are a few visual updates but as long as you don't install extra shit like the chronoshader (not included in mod) you should be fine.

But seriously, if shockwave is slowing you down its time to upgrade. Not a lot, but some. Other than playing against the Hard AI on a poorly designed map there is no reason it should be lagging.

...

tbh its handles shockwave pretty well, tis the other well known mod that fucks it up
Which is the one that has cyborg troops again?

Probably contra. And that is understandable because it was made by russians who added a lot of visual updates and a poorly scripted AI that spams units worse than cold war era china.

shame really, it had some good points
Mostly i just loved the absurdly huge superweapons, Fucking china gets a bomb that goes off after 10 minutes that takes out a third of the map
It was grand to see that go off, but the AI was dreadful
Shockwave came across to be as more appropriate in its changes, being minor and the like

Agreed. Contra supposedly really shines in multiplayer. But from what I heard it's mostly turtling and hoping you can outrank the opponent and get your rank 5 tech first.

I have a 4770k and Shw sometimes has slowdowns and stutters it's just how it is.

The keyword is sometimes.

I can guarantee you that 9/10 it is either the ai trying to build structures where it can't or spamming units that are stuck against something. If you are playing against only humans you will rarely run into issues unless someone is being a fag and making 500 clicks per second giving orders.

The heat effects from certain units like the microwave tank can also do it to older comps.

How old was this friend?
I could understand if he was 5, but taking half an hour to get help is retarded

Would you happen to know where i can find a list of all the units/buildings/powers?
All i could find was an archive link
web.archive.org/web/20120114091846/http://wiki.falloutstudios.org/wiki/Manual:ShockWave
Its pretty old so i'm pretty sure its not up to date

It was a long time ago. Maybe 14-15?

I was amazed that he spent so long throwing dogs at the pillboxes when you can literally beat the entire mission with the conscripts that the game give you for free.

That's old but still mostly relevant. The final few updates only added very minor things and mostly focused on balance.

Honestly i still haven't figured out why noone has put the information up somewhere else
The wiki is basically bare and i'm not sure why the developers dont just post the info somewhere

They have mostly forgotten about the mod in favor of Rise of the Reds (which has now seen little development itself). Most of the people who know about Shockwave and play it either just get a feel for the unit states or they use the Finalbig editor to look at the raw stats for the units.

If you have the inclination just search for the cnc generals finalBIG editor on google.

But to more directly answer your question. People work on these projects at a very rapid fervent pace then either forget and move on to new things or get lazy and stop documenting what they've done. The west in general suffers from an addiction to novelty and a need to quickly move on to 'new' things.

Does the expansion fix this shit or is EA just so fucking incompetent at every level?

I did the exact same thing you did yet for some reason i got 1920
Hell i get 1920 off red alert 2 so i cant tell what your problem is

My bad, just ran it again and it looks like I did set it to 1920. Still no scroll lock option so I have to turn off my second monitor.

Was he literally trying to recreate the Battle of Stalingrad using dogs?

This thread could use some life. What are some of your favorite map Easter Eggs?

C&C 3 is dead on Gameranger is this game worth it for single-player alone.

No, TS is better at single player because of the atmosphere of the missions and the infinitely easier to mod skirmish options and maps.

As long as you don't pay money for it, I'd say it's worth a try. It's an alright game.
But this is right too

Anyone wanna play some CnCNet?

How bout some OpenRA while we're at it user?

nty lol read the thread

Can't remember any. Been so long since I played most RTS
