Biggest problem with WoW is that Blizzard are way too slow with adding new content and half of the time they add pointless content like selfies rather than new dungeons. I dont mind themeparks myself but they have to make content at a good rate otherwise it gets boring fast

People will buy the base game to play it, and Oyveyshill keeps releasing new priced DLC. You don't really need DLC to win, nor to play the DLC heists, as you can join one from a host who already owns that DLC.
Those who keep playing the game longer will want to expand their options and cave in to buying DLC. New DLC keeps the cash flow steady. It's somewhere inbetween a pay-to-play and a subscription model, where you buy the base game and can pay for extra content, but you don't really have to. There are plenty of suckers who will, so you will have plenty of money to keep repeating the cycle.

I've probably never made a better decision when I quit in early WoD. I still loved raiding, but I had done everything a person can do. I had world firsts, killed every encounter there was in the last five years, etc. Now with tiers taking a year and the rest of the game having gone down the shitter there is nothing to play for anymore.

Legion seems to have a semblance of content, but I doubt the casuals will react in a good way at the utter and sheer gutting of small QoL shit, or how blizzard is pandering to melee to the detriment of everyone else (not only they got all new animations, while casters barely got anything new, but melee in general are at MoP tier levels of mobility (except ret, being ret is suffering) while casters and healers are still mainly turrets)

To be fair, melee has more or less been repeatedly buttfucked throughout WoW's history. I believe that top raiding guilds would carry mostly ranged DPS for their progression groups. Cataclysm was sometimes referred to as Casterclysm for a reason.

I have a feeling that by the last raid patch of Legion, newer people will be able to breeze through artifact progression in a fraction of the time it originally took, knowing modern Blizz's catchup methods.

It has always been shit one way or another, even varying between encounters.

The way they combat this is by requiring you to have X players at range and Y at melee.

Artifacts give me flashbacks of Dark Age of Camelot: Trials of Atlantis. Normally social people will become total assholes as they try to level up their toy for max stats.

All the top guilds have disbanded with all the players leaving, WoW has been haemorrhaging players since cata it's gotton so bad blizzard stopped reporting player numbers.

There is another reason for this along with the game going downhill.

The hardcore guilds went too hardcore. What used to be 25 hours/week during progression with farming has turned into grinding several characters to maximum, farming with all of them and being available 40+ hours a week during progression. Even the hikkis quit.

This was 100% true throughout every patch until Cata, rogues were the only ones who could conceivably keep up with all the bullshit movement and aoe mechanics and still do decent damage until end game when warriors could almost catch up, and then rogues were turned into middle-of-the-pack-tier shit in cata, which is when I stopped playing. The kicker is that they were probably the most buff dependent class in the game because of how their damage worked, benefiting from everything but Int, Spirit, and spell power, so you had to have a stacked as fuck raid for them to really shine which meant including the shittier melee classes.

Even if you went to the trouble of doing this, there were still gimmicky bosses that completely fucked over melee because of something that couldn't be worked around, Ulduar for example had Kologarn parrying because he doesn't have a backside (feral druids couldn't even shred, what the fuck Blizzard?) and Vezax who forced melee to kickbot because shadow crashes only increased magic damage, making half of your raid irrelevant. You'd have to be a very, very good rogue to warrant a permanent spot in 10 man progression because ranged had it so much easier that they were almost braindead, at times being able to ignore mechanics altogether.

If the tables have truly turned in recent updates that only tells me that Blizzard still hasn't learned how to make decent raids that don't completely gimp half the classes in the game at a time. Even without all the stupid social media and casualized farmville bullshit, the game isn't worth returning to because the developer thinks it's okay to make anti-fun mechanics instead of something that relies on skill/cooperation/a modicum of brain power.

Rogues were good pretty much all of Cata, whether for specific mechanics or simply good damage. Most importantly, they were exceptional on wall bosses like Ragnaros heroic and Spine heroic.

Warrior could compete towards the end because they always scale incredibly well with gear. They weren't hopeless early on either.

it wouldn't even be a problem if they made the game like an actual game and required certain classes to have different playstyles and skillsets. for example in everquest no other melee class would outdamage a rogue but rogues had practically no utility so in many situations a monk or even a shadowknight would be more usefull.
