Somewhat more of it rested on IA's shoulders than #GGs, as I recall it.
Many of you will remember the brief, actual, "muh PR" phase that the Twitterfront went through in early-mid 2015. The GG Harassment Patrol under Gel, "Tone Policing" and that dumb shit. The IA/Jayde stream happened during that time.
Nobody on the hubs really gave a fuck. It got mentioned once in a while on Holla Forums or KiA, along with a few eyerolls, some lols, and then it was back to business. Twitter did give IA some grief about it. The majority still didn't care, because IA was pretty based, but what happens when even 500, or 800 people - a tiny fraction of 250,000, calls you a retarded faggot? The answer is, "your feed is blown up by hundreds of people calling you a retarded faggot." I've had a group of just ten persistent cucks literally blow my feed up for hours before. If you're not expecting it, its overwhelming as hell. IA went through that for a few weeks over that stream.
But something happened right around that timeframe that changed #GG for the worst. This is my opinion, but it comes after a lot of soul searching, research, and being there for all of it. What happened was a reaction from our political-oriented allies - to include Holla Forums, IA, and a lot of our diggers that prompted them to either pack up and leave, or in some cases turn on us entirely. The "ethics cuck" meme took off precisely because this reaction was going on. And frankly, none of us caught it at the time.
Try and see what they saw. Us? Here? We were fine, doing the same shit we were always doing. But the Twitterfront was always and by orders of magnitude, the biggest and most visible part of #GG. They say that. They saw #GG "hunting down harassment" with the harassment patrol. They saw IA getting shit on. They saw our numbered legions - normalfags all, being normalfags and talking about our image and doing charities and other "good guy" shit instead of burning down journos.
There was a case of double-blind fuckup right there. IA and the others failed to realize that #GG was going through a phase - long abandoned at this point. And we failed to recognize that we were losing those allies over it and we neglected to do outreach to correct the perception error. They came to believe that #GG at large had gone off the reservation, and they didn't like what we had "become" in their eyes. They didn't realize it was temporary, it was lead by faggots, and it had nothing to do with the actual brains behind #GG.
So they burned out. And we did nothing to stop it. And because memes gonna meme, once they had it in their heads that #GG was "cucked", and especially once they started advocating it openly, there's no way they could just take it back and rejoin once that phase was over. Memes don't go in reverse and pride gets in the way on social media. This became a self-fulfilling prophecy, because as those people left, the concentration of activists vs. faggots in the Twitterfront became much more diluted in favor of faggots. People left because it sucked for a while during all that - but because they left, retards took over and it began to suck permanently, meaning non-tards didn't want to wade in and deal with it so recruitment slowed, and more activists left until it was mostly retards. An over-reaction by our allies went un-compensated by us, and the situation went from being a short-term embarrassment to a long-term problem.
