Does this even work with videogames? A game no matter what should be engaging and entertaining/have some form of game play since the player is having an active roll, so even if a game challenges you mentally or emotionally its main trait from this will always be entertaining and most games tend to prioritize one over the other. Most of the games that fall into the shit category fall into it becuase they fail at being entertaining.
Most of the "challenging" movies are independent or the director had total control while most indie game devs sacrifice gameplay to try and be challenging but since they arnt entertaining nobody gives a shit.
Im sure there are some games that are manage to pull of being intellectually challenging and engaging with game play at the same time I just cant really think of too many

A Video Game would be something that is perfect or near perfect because of lack of faults. Best executed, but something that doesn't really capture the heart and is no ones most nostalgic game.
Below those you would have AAA games like Halo or COD, next to that Leddit meme games.
Below that, Facebook and Neogaf tier games.

The other way to divide it is things that people actually get terms confused with one another in a way similar to OP.
These would be:
Video Games: You are presented with a problem/obstacle and seek to overcome it. If the game does not present to you an objective, you seek one out. You can fail or succeed.
Simulator:You are placed in a situation and interact with it. There is no failure or success.
Visual Novel: Words with images as the name implies. can be linear or a "choose your own adventure" sort of story.
"Virtual Experience"/Walking Simulator: Tries to explore new ground in the medium by doing the exact same garbage as their peers. Just like hipsters, for people trying so hard to set them apart from the world, they come out remarkably generic and typical.
