Minecraft Server Sneaking

I like to find and explore people's empty Minecraft servers. It's calming and fascinating to me.

This server was a small collection of islands. I found this note, but none of the other islands had anything really interesting.

New server, and it's giving me some great first impressions.

This little stone door in the jaws of the skeleton is powered by redstone and sticky pistons. There's buttons at each side of the door, and pushing a button may either open and close it. I'm not very good with redstone, so this is pretty cool to me.

Time to get comfy.

know what'd be more fun and calming

joining random unprotected servers and building TNT cannons near player structures

I'm inside the walls.

The top book is an Aqua Affinity, and the bottom is Protection I.

The enchanting room/armory leads into a little brewing spot. It even has a Nether Wart farm.

Personally, I'm more fond of just straight TNT. Cannons are fun, but more complicated than I like.

You up for some raiding then? :^)

The brewing room is connected to a storeroom. I like this castle layout. The last chest just had a few pieces of netherrack.

Not tonight, no.

Why would you even enjoy that? You are just destroying a dead server. Even if it was still being used, congratulations, you just made a 9 year old really sad for a couple hours before they forget about it.

I don't care about dead servers, they can be.
On active servers I only attack the douchebag players (primarily shitty server admins).

Besides, it's fun to be the bad guy once in a while.

I let them be**

There's a map room on the left side which leads to the second floor.

There's leads and saddles in one of the bedside chests.

The other chests have items befitting their labels. Fourth is the Netherrack chest, fifth is the sword chest.

Logan, who seems to be the son, is much less organized than Dada.

Have I mentioned all the wolves and ocelots all over the place? There's meowing and barking all over the place.

The third room is empty, save a few dusty chests.

Some stairs lead up to the third floor, granting roof access.

The first screenshot repeats a few times, then I reach the top of the tower.

The view at the very peak is spoiled by a large cloud. I take the water back down to the third floor, then visit the basement.

What's with this melon farm? Is it some sort of proof-of-concept? The second farm I found is much more elaborate.

I went around the back of the castle. This looks like where they keep the stuff that comes from the farm.

Up the hill there's that white building from earlier.

Sometimes, though, I just like to watch the sun set.

time to buckle down and enjoy this.
thank you user.

Turns out there was a tunnel to the top. I wish I'd known that earlier.

In search of a place that wasn't infested with enemies, I went back down to the valley. It seems this is where they keep the villagers. All the people in white coats want paper.

I wound up trapped in the first floor by enemies.

The nearby sheep house has its sheep organized by color.

This cobblestone pile is doing that thing where it won't let you through open doors. I hate it when that happens.

I don't understand the purpose of this building.

Let's go to the Nether!
There's four hallways in each cardinal direction. I'm going down the one to the left of this mini forest.

There was a Nether portal at the end. Where's this arrow go?

You're welcome.

It's an iron golem farm. Or used to be. The game spawns iron golems if x or more villagers and houses are in a zone, then they get funnelled down by the water, killed by lava and the iron and roses are collected.

Nothing but a nice view, apparently. Or maybe it was a way home.

Going down the more forward hallway, there's another portal. I think this is a hub travel method of some sort.

There's more hallway past this portal.

That sounds very useful. Thank you.

The next portal took me here. I accidentally destroyed the bridge with a creeper and died to a skeleton. Maybe I should have taken some armor.

Oh well, I don't feel like wandering through their Nether anymore.

This server was listed as having a maximum of 1 player allowed inside, and no one inside. When I tried to connect, I got this message. Odd.

What

This server was littered with creeper leavings, crafting tables, and blank signs. You can see one in the distance on the last screenshot.

Where do you find these servers

have we reached full retard yet?

I fail to see what's so retarded about it, when the game is basically about building structures. What would be retarded is something like a Call of Duty sight seeing.

How is it retarded? The game is about building shit and then staring at it.

Aren't lurkers just doing imageboard sight-seeing?

I'm trying to find a server at the moment. Most of them are white-listed or in foreign countries.

I use shodan.io. I think you need a premium account for filtering by port, but mine got grandfathered in. For example, shodan.io/search?query=port:25565 1.10

this is twitch right now with pictures
not even a video and not even with tits

Found one!

I spawned in some dude's treehouse. I can't open the chest for some reason.

There's also no awkward commentary, awful music, or facecam cancer.

This security is terrible.

Ehy can you please kill yourself?
Seriously, enough, we don't care, stop bumping this shitty thread, minecraft is something most people on Holla Forums dislike.

I've tried to map a giant minecraft server before.
I gotta say that is some Grade-A autism right there. How fucking bored do you have to be to just hold the W key down for hours on end? No, not just hours. There has to be at least a day's work of doing nothing but holding down the W key even on horseback.

...

And just when I'd thought the administrators could spell.

Were you seriously not around long enough to see the last few threads like this? They were very well recieved.

Oh, forgot a few screenshots. That was the principal's office. Second is how I managed to enter – someone didn't install the doors correctly.

The auditorium didn't have much. Next door is the math room.

These are the math textbooks. Talk about a crash course.

Dude don't fight it, just let it seep into your comfy places.

Isn't kinda spooky walking on places like that on an empty server?

This is the cafeteria. These kids better be damn grateful because this stuff is better than anything I ever ate in school.

This an old world I used to play on.

There's a link to the save file at the end..I think

...

Hallowed halls of autism's past. Makes me wonder if some alien will stumble upon Earth's ruins if humanity suddenly vanished.

I want to go down this hallway, but there's a world hole eating it and whatever this classroom is supposed to be.

This world hole and the construction of the "second floor" suggest that any concern for student safety was forgotten long ago.

Kind of, but it's also nice to see the stuff people build. Hell, one time someone came on while I was exploring and gave me a tour.

Thank you for sharing.

I hope they do. I've always had a thing for exploring abandoned things. If I was more physically fit, I'd do urban exploration.

I always wondered if the shit I built years ago is sitting there on some server. It would be like taking a time machine and seeing what everything lookes like years later, spooky but interesting.

if you are going to post 1920x1020 with no hud at least try to frame them attractively
pic related

Here's IHOP. The cashier at the front has a lot of bills for 5 emeralds. It seems they only ever got one customer.

Maybe it is. Some places just run forever.

I'm not a terribly good photographer, I'll admit.

...

Time is passing while I eat my dinner. There's an entrance to the kitchen on the other side, and the chests are all stuffed with ingredients.

These might help a bit.

It's on a hill next to the school. A walkway would have been nice, though.

All my friends who talk about composition and read shit like this suck at filmmaking.

Then what do your friends that are good at filmmaking talk about and read?

Jeez, I haven't played Minecraft in ages. Is it worth to reinstall?

this is going to end up in /x/, territory, isn't it?

I like this house.

Thank you, user. I tried to use some of that in these shots.

Not really, unless you want to see how the modding scene has evolved. Even then, I don't recommend it.

golden spiral is some made up liberal arts shit

they probably talk about radiohead and read collegehumor

...

...

...

Lowering your FOV will make it easier to compose screenshots, even if it's not ideal for actual gameplay.

The picture you just posted uses the golden spiral, you massive faggot.

Great, I'm getting self-conscious about screenshots now.

I see. I'm only comfortable at high FOV, and I'm able to capture lots of shit in my screenshots with it, so that's what I use.

keep doing what you're doing, ignore art fags.

If my Minecraft account still exists, I'm going to start exploring empty servers as well. I haven't touched this thing since the beta, jesus.

Keep up with the comfy thread, user.

Will do.

speak for yourself user

It's still basically the same game, but depending on when you stopped playing, you've probably missed a lot.

I wish I'd known about the walkway to begin with.

Is that big wooden L thing some sort of unfinished project?

Another comfy exploring thread? Keep it up, you glorious bastard.

The labeled chests are stuffed full, everything else is empty.

I wonder what this thing is gonna be when it's all done.

With pleasure.

I've never been to an Ikea, but I get the feeling this isn't even close to the real thing.

Thread theme.

Thats actually pretty spot on

Looks like they only truid to do the chheck out area which is basically a warehouse with all the shit you find in the massive presentation rooms. If you take the time to look at everything, you can easily be there for 3 hours+

This campsite is a welcome sight. Perhaps it's a base camp for a mining expedition.

Whatever the case, it seems I've found everything this server has to offer.

Really? It looks like a nightmare to navigate, but most things in Minecraft look that way.

go fuck yourself, newfag

A livestream would actually be pretty comfy tbh

I thought at first that this was going to be a server with nothing in it, but I found this after a little looking around.

It's okay, user, I think he's gone now.

All the chests are full of random shit, except this one at the end of a hallway. I'm pretty sure that pressure plate will kill me. anyone ever watch kiershar's videos about minecraft traps and shit?

Nothing short of a miracle I guess, my account hadn't been taken over by a Russian on krokodil.

I'm going to start exploring some servers as well. I found one just now, but it was nothing but broken islands. There were dozens of these bridges to nowhere. They were completely filled with enemies though and I couldn't progress.

I think I've found everything on this server.

It probably would be, but I'd have to get a lot more organized about it.

Sweet! Have fun!

So now a pattern seen nature almost everywhere explained by math and science is something made up by liberal arts faggots?

Top comfy mate. Someone here complained that this isn't a livestream, but I'm liking this much more than a livestream. Less commitment, just highlights, simpler. Less bandwidth.

Neat. Interesting seeing what random people's minds do, or half-do.

Why, Josh? Why?

Yeah, there's a lot of stuff I do between posts like choosing music, reading thread replies, etc.

This pyramid is neat.

The big ugly obsidian block is an arena, apparently. There's nothing inside either of the chests.

There's four entrances, each with two empty chests. I wonder how much of this arena used to be a lava trap?

I found another pyramid.

It actually might be quite interesting if someone did a treasure hunt type thing in all these dead servers.
Like, say in one server leave notes dotted around the map, giving a player the name of another server.
If these servers are as dead as they seem to be, it could take years before someone gets to the end.
At the end server you could leave a url that takes whoever finds it to some weird porn site

I found a server that claimed to be "Country RP". To my disappointment, it wasn't people playing banjos by their porches, but instead players had to join a country. In the spawn, I was given the options of Spain, UK or Denmark. UK was filled, so I went with Spain.

Then I ran around some and came across Denmark's board of rules for whatever reason. Guess Spain and Denmark are next to each other.

I stole a skeleton horse from Denmark and found a path in the forest. Been following it for a while now, but it keeps on going.

also rip bee

Turns out this pyramid is someone's house!

This is the coolest storehouse I've ever seen. I wish people would stop leaving TNT in unlocked containers, though. That's just asking for trouble.

Looks like fun. If only we knew what would happen to outlaws.

Downstairs is a funky farm and stairs to a mine.

This reminds me of a lot of those old second life-like games. Dead worlds once inhabited and used and loved, now long abandoned.

This guy is great for that stuff: youtube.com/watch?v=MJ3UdgRSa7U

I got distracted on the way to the greenhouse. Josh needs to learn about /gamerule mobGriefing 0.

Cool stuff, thank you.

The bridge across had a pair of pressure plates that made a long line o f glowstone lamps race down the path. It was pretty cool, but I couldn't keep up even at a sprint.

This castle is gonna look good at night.

A set of stairs took me up to the very top.

The path eventually came to an end. On the way, there was a wall that was supposed to be a checkpoint I guess. At the end was a pretty large building, but it's in a pretty bad shape. I went in and my skeleton horse vanished for whatever reason. The monsters at the yard stormed the ruined building and I got mauled to death.

Back at spawn, I took a look at the rules and what not, but they weren't all that interesting. There was a backstory for the server though. I chose to spawn at Denmark and I spawned at the rule board I screencapped previously. There was nothing of interest in the surrounding areas. Just some basic shacks made out of wood. Going to look for another server.

This feels so weird. Almost like visiting an abandoned house in the middle of nowhere.

Where do you find these abandoned servers OP? I'm considering doing the same now.

I use shodan.io. It's usually used to find unsecured/default settings webcams. For example: shodan.io/search?query=minecraft 1.10

Happy searching, user. Most servers are whitelisted, or in Germany, but the ones you do find are worth it.

I don't like heights. This doesn't help.

Wonder how much of it was real or colored by the impressions of the writer.

poor theodore

These stairs take me down quite a ways, even going underwater. I've never really done much underwater.

There's a few rooms at the bottom.

...

Still looking for servers. Thanks for suggesting Shodan. Looking through it now.

user stop, you're making me feel

The little hallway led me to the beacon room.

Bounce! Bounce! Bounce!

Seems like this castle's shown me everything, so it's time for a nice long walk.

Actually, fuck that, let's steal a minecart.

It's okay. I'm sure the friendships forged there will never fade.

Weee!

Shit, a creeper blew up the tracks. At least there's more afterward.

...

The ride ended near the teleportation hub.

First up is the SIP.

The starting area of this server is covered in snow. It's actually pretty comfy.

Apparently this place is still uncharted.

Snowy villages the best.

I don't know what's come over me. I don't plan on finishing this thing, but still.

The upstairs of The Naga's Mug was heavily guarded. The muscle proved to be too intimidating, so I went to the other tavern in this little snowy village. the END ER INN & TAVERN (sic)

There is little outside of this village. Could be that this server used to be run by a few friends and they never expanded beyond.

Good luck user. The thread it's pretty comfy so far.

I found a path that led me back to the SIP. I think I'm going to call it quits with that map and move on to HTTP.

Thanks, I'm glad you're enjoying it.

This is a very comfy thread user, keep going

Hey Chris, I'm coming for a visit, you got a bite to eat?

hi there OP, i was inspired by you so i took a look at an empty Minetest server. they have telepad things that take you to different continents. i didn't look around much yet but its already pretty interesting

Seems Chris is a railroad worker – the chest holds nothing but minecarts.

You bet!

Sweet. I really should play Minetest more often and maybe even contribute if I find the skill and time to do so.

>they put the server back up on Feb 26th, 2016
It's time to go play some video games. I'll tell you guys if it's still the server I remember.

It's slow but I'm enjoying it too.
It hits me right in the feels as I participated in a server before it died.

Have fun faggot.

I thought that being underground and well-lit would protect this railway from destruction, but I sped past a creeper on my way to the other end.

Good luck.

I gave a server a try a while ago and they were talking about dwindling populations. I was there for a week or so before I got bored and left.

I checked back a few weeks later, and the server was closed. I kind of wish I could go back, but if I'm to roam forever, then roam I shall.

...

I used to be a moderator in a Ben Drowned inspired Minecraft server years ago. It was usually really chill. We'd build the dumbest things and just shoot the shit while me and the others built stuff in secret for "story events" we had in the server. Players would have to find hidden chests, solve riddles, fight shit etc. etc. It was pretty fun. Too bad the owner took it down and I haven't heard of him since.

Anyway, here's some random screenshots from some random servers I've found that weren't too interesting. Searching for a good one.

Dumping some stuff I made years ago, then I will tell the still mildly enraging story about it.

...

...

This is good shit, user. I'd love to see it firsthand.

Okay, story now.
>That, and that he backs up the fucking map
Still fucking infuriates me to this day.

This can't be good

I got caught up a little in trying to find another place to look at and ended up crafting some stuff.

Damn, that really sucks. Bad admins are the worst.

At least you got pictures user.

Welp.

But doesn't that mean they're being intolerant?!

Turns out I missed a whole storage area.

That's it for me. Hope you're still going to continue exploring, user. This was surprisingly comfy.

Dumpan more shit I built at least 4 years ago.

Who the fuck builds paths out of soul sand?

I'm headed back to the hub world, this might take a little while.

Nevermind, the portal took me straight back to the starting HTTP building.

FTP is quite solitary. I could get used to this place.

UDP is real quiet, too.

I built that hall from Rohan/Helm's deep. I gave up building LOTR shit when I realized there was an entire server chock full of autists who already built the whole thing… to scale.

do spooky horses burn in the daylight?

Ooh this brings me back to the time I was on a /tg/ server (pre-exodus) that functioned as a community together. I joined up and took up a job as a miner for a few days. Went offline and came back days after and the spawn city was just wrecked.

There had been some mod drama that resulted in the destruction of the community, but the server was left. You could walk across the ruins of the towns new and old. I just explored for hours. Found an even older abandoned city that was completely empty besides the snow. Had the ambient music playing as a I tried to make a small base among the snow and dark. Definitly one of my more memorable gaming experiences.

Pic related is what it was like, except with less vegetation. I kinda like the gaming expierence of walking across ruins made by actual people. Its unique to games.

Hall2 is the tiny version I made, realized it was too small for an impressive seat of power I never really finished the interior on either one.

I went back to the hub world to investigate a building I'd spotted earlier.

Nope.

Yeah, just wandering is nice, maybe even doing some squatting.

The aptly-named Forest of Trees.

I returned to the base and entered their Nether portal. Sir, I think it's malfunctioning.

The hallway led me around a C curve and up a small stairway, and then to here.

I investigated the cobble tunnel after seeing the End stone building.

I'll be careful, mom, I promise.

Whoever this guy is, he likes tunnels. Such is construction in the Nether, I suppose.

Cobble hallway led me to an unlit portal, so I returned to the end stone base to see the surface.

Another minecart ride? Sure!

Son of a bitch, I hate abandoned minecarts.

Fortunately, the ride was about over anyway. This minecart chest had a few extra goodies inside.

I'd honestly love a game that just functions as wandering through ruins that have been left behind. But it wouldn't feel right because going through ruins left by players feels more 'real' than going through ruins designed by game devs.

You would require players to leave things for you to find. Minecraft is currently the only game I can think of where this is prevalent. Abandoned MMOs and other more esoteric niche stuff count too I suppose.

So, 3 years ago I decided to make "Angband" or more realistically a giant evil fortress inspired by the idea in SP, which was basically Sauron's giant fortress built into 3 gigantic mountains. It's edgy because it was made to be inhabited by a bunch of evil niggers orcs. My biggest criticism would be not-big-enough.cia.aidengillen.jpg on the 3 main mountains, though the mountain range in total is enormous for you.

World edit made it possible, no fucking way would I build this block by block.

The initial idea when setting out for this is that it would either be spawn or a special event area (that you couldn't build/destroy anything in) with an extremely convoluted set of tunnels/fortificaitons weaving in and out of an enormous series of mountains.

...

...

I like open-air bases like this, particularly the way this is up in the tree canopy.

I hear there's tons of stuff like that on Worlds.com.

Even with world edit, I'm impressed.

...

Time for a boat ride.

This seaside fortress is pretty cool. I wonder if they've ever staged any pirate attacks here?

How nice of the server. I wonder how many people have been here since Christmas.

One story justification for this would be you're a ghost exploring the dead-for-centuries city you once inhabited (primarily stone so something is actually left). Good justification for a story driven type game, but I can't imagine what the actual gameplay would be. Maybe a "demons/monsters killed the city, come back and haunt/rekt their shit for revenge", and every time you "die" you just fall asleep and wake up as the human part of the city is even more decayed but the monsters become more numerous and the lower-tier more humanoid ones begin to dominate/rebuild parts in their own image and in the end you're just a big bully for being mean to them!

holy crap i havent built in trees in years. it used to be all i did back when i played vanilla.

europa is nice but i got stuck in a cactus maze

well obviously you'd need to know C++ to improve the actual program
the community always needs more content like texture packs and subgames/mods, which are written in Lua.

by the way if anyone wants to play Minetest you'll need mods or a subgame, the default subgame is barebones. there are also custom texture packs that are better than the default one. my standards are pretty low since i never played that much of Minecraft beyond survival mode, your mileage may vary with Minetest. all i know is i'm not going back to that bloated java shitpile that is now a microsoft owned java shitpile.

Time for me to share the story of when I was a mod on a minecraft server.

I pleaded my case with the head admin, and he reinstated me after about a month, but by then a new update had come in that changed biomes again, so the server had already been reset. most of my friends left once I was banned, and the server died shortly after that. Every once in a blue moon, I hear from someone who used to play on the server, but for the most part, we've all moved on with our lives.

If your computer can handle them, I think you'll love the Jungle biomes.

I really should spend more time honing my programming skills. Can you recommend any subgames?

...

Oh goodness, it's an aircraft carrier!

I didn't fly so good.

i've been using stampy's subgame because it has lots of shit in it. you can find it here as well as his weird world thing: forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=8592

i'm using map generator v7 with it and lava tends to appear a lot, not sure if its the subgame

Every time I see lots of cobblestone in one place, I remember how the cracks in it used to be really thick and dark so everything involving it would look ugly as fuck.

those fucking faggots

Impossible challenge: Build an entire city out of cobblestone, iron doors/levers/buttons/redstone dust/pressure plates/chests, and glass that doesn't look like shit (cobblestone, doors/door accessories, and glass basically).

The tailor has some string and wool. The butcher has redstone sitting around his workplace and a disproportionate amount of chicken. The baker had shitloads of wheat, seeds, and milk.

I found the blacksmith. He also happens to be a cartographer.

The blacksmith has a mine under his house.

Have I found where the mole people live?

Awwww shit!

I forgot to say, but there was a trap door in the room in pic 2 of my last post. I went down there, and posted my findings.

Another ladder led me down to a bedrock-level mining operation.

what servers are these

They're just random, empty servers I find.

I think Grumm is a defective model. Probably doesn't offer a warranty.

Jesus christ, kid, I don't want to complete a pre-flight checklist just to look at a building.

can you post the isp's? They look interesting

Did you walk into a anime characters minecraft server?

Well, hopefully my desktop can get fixed or that data is probably lost.

This place is surprisingly empty.

Sorry, I don't post IPs of servers in these threads unless I know they have good griefing protection.

This game has a way of looking so pretty at night.

I grabbed another boat and took to the water once more.

...

Id tell you that i wont do anything but it wont change your opinion will it
Oh well

Does "Grumm" mean something that I don't know about?

see

Where willl this little dirt tunnel take me?

What the hell is this?

Cactus farm..?

The water wall at the end of this tunnel is too substantial to be a cactus farm, unless it's some weird method I'm not aware of.

somebody screencap this shit

Snow?

This person has no idea how suspension bridges work

check the box and use the grab tool newfriend

nah bro, the center tower is made of lighter than air materials, duh…

thanks anyways

Snow. Only on the bridge, but snow.

...

useless

This server sure has a lot of minecart rides. Too bad this one didn't have any minecarts on this end of the ride. I made my own with a bit of spare iron.

...

God dammit, the portal took me back here.

At least I've seen the other end of the bridge now.

I'm gonna see where the leafy path takes me.

immerseshin broken

Hey, it's taking me to another place I've already been. Finding a proper path after I've already visited a place seems to be a recurring theme.

I died to a lag spike trying to get this screenshot. This server was getting kind of old anyway.

I see no tech here.

Doesn't look interesting either, are there some good buildings or places?

Must be African engineering.

What the fuck is this server? Why does it have a 4000 player limit? Are these two just whispering ERP with each other? Who's that green dude?

Fuck it, this server won't let me do anything. If you want to investigate for yourself: 71.58.215.130

Nope, that server was a dead end.

Yet another server. At least I can actually open doors here.

Doo dudo doo.

What did the spoilers say?

see for yourself

Lots of underground stuff at this base.

That's all for this server.

This thread really makes me think about an old server that I used to play on in 2011. The admins were cool as fuck, but the server lost players over the years including me and it has since shut down. I still sort of like minecraft sometimes for a comfy game that I can play while listening to podcasts.

ah thankee

fuck off back to reddit.o

I wouldn't bother doing that, you poor thing. Just save your CPU cycles.

I'm looking for servers at the moment. Enjoy this music in the intermission.

And suddenly, I find one.

That's a pathetic moat.

I thought this was a half-assed ship, but turns out it's just a restaurant or something.

Some pixel art looms cheerfully over a large farm building.

I found some stairs in one of the pillars.

I was skeptical about using this minecart thing, but it turns out it's an elevator.

I guess that's the house of an admin? It seems pretty empty tho.

I suppose so. It's pretty, but I wouldn't use it.

Damn you, minecart tracks, why can't I quit you?

For some reason, this track led to a section that went uphill without any powered tracks. I'm continuing on foot.

...

This is my kind of castle.

...

I'm taking the minecarts back the way I came.

(czeched)
Goyim, I…

Nice server you got there.

...

Turns out I went back to the jew-free zone by accident. As much as I'd love to stay, I have other places to be. The Trump Tower railway took me there.

This explains the constant sound of doors opening and closing.

A trap door on the first floor led me to some caves.

Never thought that Holla Forums would have it's own minecraft server.

I'm starting to fall asleep, so tonight's journey ends here. Goodnight, everyone.

If you're interested in a Holla Forums server, there's Holla Forumsandcraft.

Oh shit, that nostalgia.

I found this old beta 1.7.3 server (pre hunger update) someone from Holla Forums is hosting, but it's empty all the time.

If any of you lads would like to join me set your game version to old beta 1.7.3 (no the release 1.7.3):

23.95.0.145

It's the most comfiest version in my opinion, I hated the hunger update and I hate what they're keep doing with the game.

My time visiting on minecraft servers stopped a long time ago, maybe I would do the same as you and visit some lone servers but nothing else, the game is great but there's some real autism on the community that I don't want to participate.

heres this mess of a city, it had lots of strange monsters in it at night. theres a travel system of THE FUTURE in the city, through this travelnet thing. nice of them to leave a tetris cabinet for me to play

sweet dreams user

weird server, I guess requires some mods to work?

what the hell is up with those palm trees?

It's Minetest, not Minecraft.

server works but I have to register to play?

found more crap on another server, with stuff like a pirateship, pokemans, more travelnets, and some strange monsters. heres some sort of observatory thing that reminds me of Deus Ex, i feel like i gotta have an underwhelming fight in it

in minetest mods just autodownload or something. on the user end that means things just werk when you join the server

custom content i guess

I guess the server is pirate-friendly and since piratefags can use any username they want, in-game registration on the server is to prevent people from logging in as someone else.

how many are on right now?

heres the pirate ship
also found a well designed tunnel leading to some sort of building with lava in it

:o

Alright, if other anons will play I'll give it a go.

Why haven't you still visited the server I linked, an0n?
Is the download invalid?

HOW

another server, i bought a M4 but i don't know how to load it with the bullets

what?

Minetest has an ugly looking floating flat hand by default. Yours looks like it has volume, like Minecraft's. Is it just the texture pack, or did you install a mod to make it look like that?

here is how it looks without any texture packs and with the default subgame

I remember it being flatter, like a pickaxe. Maybe they updated it recently.

The disembodied Rayman hand always bothered me, though. Does that subgame fix it?

this server has redwood forests with monsters in them and some really comfy creations

i'm using the latest stable version which is relatively recent, 0.4.14
you mean like having an arm? no, but look for a mod or texture pack, maybe someones done it. by the way i use pixelbox reloaded as my texture pack, but those servers could be using different textures: forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=14132

Damn, those places look comfier than most Minecraft creations. You are making me want to compile the latest Minetest from source to check if there is anything new.

Yeah. I remember asking some time ago in their IRC and apparently having a real arm is not possible unless you change the actual engine code. Maybe I will send an issue to their GitHub to enable 3D model hand tools or something; I don't know enough C++ to contribute yet, much less 3D stuff or how is their code structured, so I doubt I could fix it myself.

What could be fun would be programming a reverse proxy for the Minetest server. This way you can have several server instances running and interconnect their chats, inventories or even move players from one place to the other to simulate actual dimensions. It shouldn't be hard if I manage to understand how do they handle their netcode

This is reminding me, anyone here, back in halfchan, tried joining that attempted halfchan-wide server? Only stayed there a couple days, but it was some wild fun. I was with /m/ so we spent most of our time in our space colony in the End, but I remember at one point travelling back to "Earth" and checking how the various board-islands had evolved- and looking in awe at Holla Forums's huge continent. In two days, they'd managed to make it look entirely like a huge civilization had risen and been destroyed. Huge ruins in the desert, etc.

Shit. As much as I hate minecraft these days, this thread made me remember the good times. I wish we could all team up on some server, build some really nice stuff and raid everyone else. Vanilla gets boring for me way too quickly though and it makes me miss all those mods I usually use.

Maybe it's time to try Minetest. Back during the GamerGate Exodus, HW was considering opening an official Minecraft server, but later he started considering Minetest

i guess it was inevitable, a russian server. the russians live on the ocean floor for some reason, theres a comfy home down there, although its a bit messy. land dwelling russians seem to live in crappy boxes. last one is a different server, they had a powerplant and a bridge, and a bunch of stuff built in the sky

i haven't played Minecraft in forever but i vaguely remember mod support being terrible. i'm not going back, too much of a headache.

Yup.
It's worth noting that most modpacks for Minecraft are running a two year old version of the game. At least those maintained by the Feed the Beast devs are.

joining in on this. I love 1.7.3 Beta

I can't believe you aren't using minetest yet. minetest is better in every single way.

heres another server, these people had dug almost almost 2700 meters down according to their travelnet. theres some sort of big storage and power generation room underground called grand station, but not very deep down. i took a travelnet to the middle of nowhere and found someones nice home.

thats terrible, why haven't modders moved to Minetest already?

mainly because the modders are faggots already pulling in dough from their minecraft mods
they've also invested a stupid amount of time into learning java and trying to handle the hellish community made APIs in order for their mods to work in the first place, so they'll be even more reluctant to give up their tangled ball of dry-rotted rubber bands for something that's easier to use, more accessible, and easily forked

because heaven forbid someone see the source code of their precious mods, someone might steal their thunder by forking it when they decide to ruin shit with needless nerfs/buffs to items or mechanics

Now I wonder if I should start a minetest server up.

Oh yeah, there's that aspect too. The amount of retarded politics involved in just putting together a fucking modpack is insane. Remember that time the Forestry faggot decided he didn't want his mod in Tekkit/Feed the Beast anymore so he made it so that shit would explode when used in the pack?

Yeah, beehives would fucking blow like TNT, which honestly, is hilarious.
Then modders started having in-fights, like the redpower dev making fun of how many lines of code was in betterthanwolves which caused that autist to drop forge support

then the drama surrounding the redpower dev for being a tranny
and more drama about the redpower dev telling another modder to pull his addon because "it was already a planned feature for RP2", apparently you can claim rights to an idea you never implemented nor mentioned
then the author of forge throwing a shit fit over people not using gradle for their mods, while he started working on a way to add "certification tokens" to mods as a means to profit off all modders using forge

the minecraft modding community is the only one that went above and beyond the jewing of the sims modding community

This looks fun. What's the best way to find empty servers?

I would play minetest if it showed any originality over minecraft other than being more streamlined. From what I see, it just looks the same as an old version of vanilla which would just bore me after a few days.

I suppose sounds about right but it only really matters when you're moving the mods to a later version of minecraft. As long as you stick to that sweet spot (1.7.10 for me) and you like the mods, it can be quite fun.

>then the drama surrounding the redpower dev for being a tranny

Holy shit! You mean Eloraam? Any source for that?

I do Minecraft because there's more servers available, and I know how to do Minecraft multiplayer.

See

I didn't bother with saving the information, but basically people did some digging and found eloraam's public records for name change, and it broke the seal of anonymity for eloraam
eloraam is a MtF lesbian
turns out, there was drama when eloraam discovered his partner was ALSO a MtF lesbian, so the entire time he thought he was living the dream of becoming a woman to have hot sweaty lesbo sex, he was really just mashing his inverted dick against another inverted dick, with the illusion broken, eloraam flipped shit

holy shit I don't have a reaction image fitting of how hilariously fucked up that is

Problem is Minetest is, unlike Minecraft, not the program. It's the servers.

What I mean with this is vanilla Minetest is absolutely shit, almost more basic than Classic Minecraft, but luckily modpacks and gamemodes are easy to set up, and since mods are serverside, you each server can almost be its own game.

Minetest's modding API is not perfect. The devs could have done a much better job to make it more flexible and efficient, now that it doesn't have any of Minecraft's constraints, but it is still miles better than Minecraft's nonexistant API.

playing the default subgame isn't the point of minetest. the modding API and not dealing with java is the point. download some subgames or grab lots of mods on the forums, theres also texture packs as well. i agree that the default subgame is too barebones but its kinda hard to have a default subgame that makes everyone happy.

Holy shit this post.

Wow, minetest actually looks pretty cool. I'd be down to play a server with some anons.

Oh shit, I remember going on that server!

What happened was that HW was trying to set up a semi-regular 'Q&A' thing on Twitch, while he and some anons fucked around on a Minetest server that he set up.
I'm pretty sure that server's fucking deserted now, the last thing that was done was somebody flooding the entire 'towns' with lava.

Do you think we could actually make a community effort to set up an "official" Holla Forums Minetest server? Maybe we could even bother CodeMonkey, but now that we have gone Enterprise Business(TM) I doubt that could happen.

It wouldn't be much to drop some cash on renting a server to run minetest, but without knowing how many people would regularly play, it could just end up being a waste of funds.

I guess we could start with a small personal server running in some user's computer at some fixed time. If it has a good reception we could consider opening a dedicated one.

Does somebody here know how to run decent Minetest servers? And by that I mean having some taste in subgames and mods.

Why haven't you still visited my world?

I'll try to get a clean system set up and running, and post server details on /lv/.
Don't want to use my usual desktop for it since I want to get some rendering done.
