There are 9 races, and with the genderbent, and neoteny traits that means there's 36 total sprites to make, not including any of the random variation in color or hair. That's not bad, but for total animations that's

With n = 36, r = 2, that comes out to 666 (spooky) total animations, plus 62 harvesting animations, so even without redoing shit, that's way too much for one artist to do in a reasonable amount of time.

The only two things worth even glancing at made with that are OFF and Space Funeral. You don't look at them for gameplay, though- OFF has great art, an interesting (if bizarre and poorly translated) plot, and great music. Space Funeral has bizarre art and funny writing. Both have gameplay that makes me long for Earthbound for Final Fantasy I.

Don't know why you replied to him, but there isn't one. Tobihime is is pretty easy to play through untranslated. Just know that the button in the top right of the options menu is a reset save button if you press it 3 times.

I played through it entirely not knowing any Japanese. It might be more important on harder difficulties, but I just played normal and threw whatever items I had on them rather than going to optimum stats. Check the /hgg/ thread for latest download and info on hybrids.

There being more art is pretty much expected considering the fact that most of the creatures had basically the same functions and the gameplay was never really intended to be complex. I mean, even the most basic shit didn't have animations and a lot of the ones that did have animations often used the old ones from before Schwig, on top of that a lot of the creatures didn't have any animations at all and yet for some reason he was drawing new NPCs and creatures that would never be added to the game anyway while shit like dickwolves, which are one of the first things you get, were still unfinished.

The coder puts in the story elements and all interactions, not just animations. The fact that there was basically nothing to be said of story development after two years falls in testimony given.

Presumably, that was HBomb's entire plan. Vilify Shwig/S-purp first before he could reveal that this has been in the works for a long time and Hbomb knew that his entire team was unhappy and pissed off.

Shwig wasn't the lead programmer or the project manager and Hbomb was supposed to be responsible for the game progressing in a meaningful way. He failed miserably at that, with or without Shwig's art.

The game was vaporware, they knew they would not be able to finish it. This is a very simple game and it saw far more progress back when it was a single LoK thread with shitty artwork. When a decent artist and a shitton of money started pouring in, the guy lost motivation to continue while the project became a huge bubble burdened with contracts, money and responsibilities, it was not a fun thing anymore.

They were just unprofessional Internet nobodies, they didn't have what it takes to upscale their shit to meet their suddenly much bigger stage. They probably gave up a long time ago and have just been drifting along hoping something would kill the project and free them of this burden that ended up being much bigger than anything they bargained for. This drama is just the perfect excuse to kill the game and run off.

its sort of a no brainer that game production would slow down when you get an artist making art that doesn't look like a 4 year olds art project. doubly so when said artist doesn't want other artists to be hired to be able to produce artwork at a faster rate.

Although logically sound, most people can't handle doing that without an excuse. Think about it, how many kids just say "I didn't do my homework" instead of coming up with excuses? If it was a group task, how often do they turn on each other?

The weight of all the expectations put upon them by patrons is what pushed them to end it in drama rather than just disappear with the money.

This is one theory.

Personally, I think the project was doomed from the start due to weak leadership. H-bomb wanted to act like the director without putting himself in a position to do it; he split the power between himself and Scwhig and as a result, neither were able to make effective policies due to deep underlying disagreements between their two philosophies.

Schwig calls H-bomb lazy and ineffectual at doing his job as the main coder, which evidence supports given the overall lack of coding. H-bomb accuses Schwig of blocking hires, which is valid criticism but Schwig probably didn't want the staff ballooning with even more useless cogs in a broken machine, cutting into his piece of the pie.

What I mean to say here is that putting two people who work against each other on equal ground is a fast way to get nowhere on a project.
