If you really want to know you should probably watch some old swedish movies from the late 60s. Particularly Astrid Lindgren movies and stuff that centers on the countryside. They are like a love story about simple life in sweden. I think many people here don't understand that it used to be perfectly safe to let your kids roam around the city alone until midnight only 10 years ago. I remember when I was 12 everyone from my school class would be at the fun fair untill midnight and then take a train home or walk home for 1h. Policemen in our city even let us drink beer with 15 as long as we did it in the same beer tent they were sitting to control how much we drink. There was never any danger. I never realised it's not like that every untill I met American exchange students who told me that their parents either drove them to school or personally accompanied them to get picked up by special bus for schools instead of using public transport on their own.
