...

I heard an opinion that Xcom 1 is better than Xcom 2, is that true?

Play UFO Defense or Terror From the Deep. These games were made with consoles and retarded millenials in mind

If I'm going to play RNG:The genre than I'd rather the games not be dumbed down.

Old as fuck unplayable pixelated garbage that is aged like rotten bread.

Not to mention completely not complex and retarded.

Fuck that shit.

...

You're going to get bullied.
If Jake could fix how fucking poorly the game runs and mods make the game not fucking trash then I would consider picking it back up. pic related is to prove I played it. I almost finished the game with ease on Legendary but the patch completely fucked my game.

Here's your (You).

EW with Long War's much better than any state of eggscum 2. Better yet play UFO Defense, Terror From the Deep or Apocalypse.

When you talk about games being completely unplayable because of how much they aged, graphics really matter.

Looks like someone hasn't played on Superhuman.

I'm redownloading it, this time with all DLC/patched. Time to try some mods.

Does anyone know the name of that one that showed you which alien had the loot of the map?

Here you go friend.
steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=646244015

I played through it once when the alien hunters DLC came out and I was pretty disappointed, I was going to play though it again since I thought human MECs were coming back but I saw that they weren't.

Let me make quick recommendation. Try out those mods, a Better Advent, which changes the entire fucking enemy pool and completely re-balances it:
nexusmods.com/xcom2/mods/345/?

And mod that adds the entire third line of perks:
nexusmods.com/xcom2/mods/604/?

Those two are essential as fuck.

Also everything made by this man is compatible with it:
nexusmods.com/xcom2/users/5736949/?tb=mods&pUp=1

That mod is buggy shit, and someone should remake it using SPARKs as a template for non-human characters.

You're a dirty lair user.

Many thanks!

Better Advent is compatible with the new ayy bosses? If so, I'll be sure to try these, thanks as well.

the more you talk about how bad the graphics are, the more cancer you reveal yourself to have.

Yes. Don't forget to install optional "All The Enemies!" plugin. It acts like compatibility patch.

That only serves a purpose if you're using the mods it adds compatibility with, just as a sidenote.

Installed all mods with "realistic" weapons and customization gear from fucking MGS available on nexus.

Now either my pc will blow up and i'l kill myself, or it will turn into fucking jagged alliance.

Yo, we heard you like one eyed googles, so we gave you one for each eye.

I operate in the 4th dimension

Well, its was worth it.

...

Pirated it on launch. Beat it on commander in 2 days. It's better than XCOM EU but it's still too easy and fundamentally broken.

Try some mods, it's what I'm doing. Also, all DLC.

I'm . Other than this guy's mods, the extra icons one and Stop Wasting My Time, is there something essencial I'm missing?

anyone have the workshop version of the uniform manager to put somewhere so i can download that shit?

the guy that made it doesn't update the mod on nexus and the smods.ru page have a extremely outdated version of it.

Yeah, i´m still playing it occasionally. I still wait for a bigger expansion like enemy within though.

I'm waiting for the inevitable version with all DLC that's patched and doesn't bug out every 10 minutes, just like I did with the last one.

I know Firaxis is incapable of making a decent game, but they somehow even managed to fuck up a copy-paste sequel.

Right now they working on the console port

I hear a lot this retarded nonsense that xcom 2 is just a copypaste sequel of xcom 1 and even worse at that. But honestly, they changed so much, it´s really hard to believe, that those people who say that even played the first one. These are improvements xcom 2 made over the first one, which come to my mind:

And these are just improvements who just happen to come to my mind. You could find probably way more.

The only things they made worse compared to their first game is the base management and the performance. But otherwise xcom 2 is just the better game actually. Feel free to bully me for my opinions now.

I disagree with /hugely/ improved graphics and the interceptor thing(the airplay should be improved, not cut off altogether - hell, the aliens should go after your base more often). I mostly agree with the rest.

fucking hell.

Havent played it but nucom did get me into the oldgames. I like the freedom the older ones give you but the new one has its merits.

Biggest problem I had with the old ones was the fabrication process. I can understand kitting individual soldiers if you want one to be the ammo dump or first aid station, but having to tell the production facilities to make ammo was fucking stupid.

I can even suspend disbelief that a paramilitary organization with funding from several dozen countries might not be able to map out a landing zone before sending troops in, but the fact that the guy in charge of everything has to personally tell people to make ammo triggers my autism.

Meanwhile:

ammo management outside of shooting games is always shit.

How do I stop being bad at X-Com?

Rush lasers.

I always find at least one user complaining about this. Just so we are on the same page: you are aware that your character isn't actually standing in front of the ayy lmao for a minute carefully aiming while you think of your moves, right?

Played (and beat) xcom2 once.
I made it back Enemy Within so I could get the last two achievements (No Squad Size upgrades & Impossible. No, I won't try to get them both in one run).

I hope the Chen's last gift is good, I've only heard crap about the previous two.

I've seen lots of mods have been made, what are the most obviously good?

So what? It's still retarded, even if it's just for rookies.

So you believe an rookie soldier that has never seen combat with ayys should have 100% accuracy with an assault rifle after just moving right next to an alien?

What makes me swear, however, is not the close misses. I can live with them. It's the chain panic

Yes.

Why?

Well starting off the rookies have to have already gotten training, and some of the rookies come from military backgrounds if you look at their bios.

Next rookies will be at most fighting Advents and Sectoids, both of which look pretty humanoid.

They're wielding assault rifles, unless you're operating it with your dick I doubt you can miss much in point blank range especially with a long burst

Finally you just need something to guarantee, it's why I think swords are bullshit. Even if the percentage is upped to like 90% you're still going to get situations where you miss and then you think well what the fuck is this bullshit the game just ripped me off because of totally ridiculous bullshit.

I think because Rookies can't guarantee shots that much the first few missions are the hardest next to the last few missions where they just start throwing avatars everywhere.

You realize that the maps are generated from puzzle peaces which are determined by the region and mission you´re fighting in? So if you want more variety in this departement there have been already tons of mods coming out adding a lot more level pieces. But saying that xcom 2 has no procedural generation is bullshit, because it definitely has.

And xcom 2 was never meant to be a stealth game. This has to be the absolute most retarded criticism thrown unto this game. The devs clearly stated long before it came out, that concealement mode is just there, to basically speed up the first few rounds and make them less tedious. It was never meant to be a stealth system. It´s a speed up system. It makes equally no sense to criticize a banker, that he can´t fix a nuclear reactor. It´s just not his job and it was never implied that it was his job.

Well in that case EU was never meant to be an airforce simulator and as such the shitty interceptor gameplay in that is the absolute most retarded criticism thrown onto that game.

And it's not the stealth that speeds up the first few rounds and makes them less tedious, it's the timers. And the timers are also a half assed bandaid fix that could have been done a million timers better than just a "lol u lose fuck u" condition. Alarm levels. More threats to respond to. Extraction being unavalible for a few turns. Mortar strikes being called in. Vehicles being called in blocking or making an area highly dangerous to the point of being inaccessible. SOMETHING that makes the aliens feel like a global threat that is in every human's shit instead of a bunch of inconviences that are defeated by having their hivemind killed even though nothing in their tactics or strategies even suggests a hive mind that controls all besides the skulljack research cutscene aka useless story bullshit

Well, i would say it´s both concealement mode and timers who speed thinks up a lot, compared to the first one.

And your response doesn´t make any sense. I was talking about that many people seemed to believe, that xcom 2 would be a stealth tactic game, which it was never intended to be and the devs clearly pointed that out from the beginning. I think there is just a heavy misunderstanding going on, about what the devs tried to do with concealment mode and what the players actually expected.

Yeah it's like people were expecting a sick guerilla tactics game and instead you end up with a halfassed reskin. What a misunderstanding.

To be fair, so did UFO defenses's rookies but they were typically shit. Though, the game recognized this with logical bullet trajectory and allowed for many rookies and a tank to be deployed in a single battle right off the bat to combat this weakness until you made badasses.

Now you're making me mad because the game we got was such a dissapointment in so many ways.

I was hoping they would have put in reverse terror missions into the game. There's the VIP missions but there's no reason to assassinate the VIP when you can capture them for more intel.

Can you get Bradford's gun mod?

How long does a long war campaign of the first one take? I only played the first one without mods due to Long War on Linux being a pain in the ass.

I never got to finish my campaign but I was 3 months in playing constantly and only just started rolling out plasma weaponry. The late game becomes a massive grind. I find it very fun in a masochistic way.

After a certain point LW just becomes silly late game. The early and mid game of LW is a lot more enjoyable.

I don't really get why you'd play Xcom 2. Xcom EW is better in most every way. Less glitchy, more content, less shit overworld whatnot you ask me, seems like slightly less RNG but that might be confirmation bias.
Campaign is longer, near as I can tell, too.

Only thing we lack is customization. And snek tits, I guess.

Pretty much. The resources to do almost anything is astronomical and the pain in the ass that is psionics stops the game from making any progress. I really wish they would change that but whatever. When I give LW another go I'm probably going to change those in the ini files.

The best new thing that XCOM 2 did bring in was procedural maps since the EU/EW maps do become predictable after you've played with them long enough.

True enough, but most the random gen maps were horrible shit thanks to terrible AI not understanding how to get around basic shit. Both enemy and yours, mind. The other half was glitched up, with walls and other stuff appearing where it has no reason to.
It wasn't awful, but, as is usual with this sort of thing, I much prefer properly designed maps.
If you absolutely must, use chunks instead. Make it a big old grid puzzle what slides around. Hell, just changing the entry point makes it different enough a lot of the time. Especially on crashed UFO missions.

Never installed it, and never will. I didn't even play NuCom 1 until a few months before 2 came out, and I only did that because a friend kept shilling it. I kept telling him it looked like a garbage game, but he finally convinced me to torrent it and try it. It was a garbage game.

WEW

Have you played classic X-com? They're way better

Are grenadiers still OP as shit?

I played ironman classic and the game got too easy once you unlocked some stuff for the grenadiers.

Of course. It's probably why I couldn't put up with XCOM. It's disgusting how dumbed down everything is.

How am I supposed to have ammo carriers or grenade-only soldiers without inventories?

I really want to like the game but it is just so spiteful. "Oh hey, you managed to almost finish this mission with no losses? Here, have the last ayy kill a civvie just so you still lose!"

If that's the case then I'll start up a long war game, play until I lose and "port-over"/remake the veterans in XCOM2.

Did XCOM 2 fix the horrible unresponsive console UI from XCOM?

That's what I ended up doing. They were my first men in 2. It was painful to recreate all 120 of them but now that you have the EU/EW cosmetic mods it makes it easier.
I'm going to have to go back to remaking them again.

Commander, I'm Xcom.

I might deliberately play loose towards the end so o don't have to port over that many people.

It's a shame that they would start as rookies.

...

They were just the highlights user. The ones that I remember very fondly. If you're like me you'll have a large pool of recognizable soldiers you customize the fuck out of. Then cry like a bitch when they die.

That role playing element is probably one of the biggest advantages of nuCom over the original X-Com

It really is. It's kind of cool having everyone refer to you and be at your command. Too bad 2 went full autistic mode and basically making you out as some kind of god who can't do no wrong even after having a squad wipe Bradford is mildy annoyed at the aliens for your fuck up.

As i pointed out earlier this isn´t true at all. And it´s kinda your fault if you expect something completely different compared to what the devs are actually working on. I mean you can hardly complain when you buy an action film which is advertised as an action film but you wanted a romance novell instead.

That's not quite my cup of tea, it's a fantasy that breeds poor leaders

What I enjoy is the role-playing aspect of knowing who each of your soldiers is personally. In the real world that kind of knowledge is reserved solely for lieutenants and captains. It makes decisions more impactful. I only wish that soldiers "panic states" corresponded to their demeanour

I can't get any XCOM2 mod to work.

I downloaded them with NMM, activated them, went to the mod launcher, selected them all, selected "play", it shows an error message but I'm told that's ok, closed it, launched the DefaultModOptions.ini to check, all the mods are there.

I start the game and no modtakes effect, it's pure vanilla. What am I doing wrong?

This is happening now.

You really don't need something like that. Anyway, check if the mods are in your XCOM2 directory.

Yes, they are.

Check if the folders go directly to the files. Mods won't work if the folder structure is: folder ->folder name-> files.

They do. Every single one of them leads to something like pic related.

You should play Xenonaughts, it's pretty damn good.

Still waiting for this project to be finished someday:
openapoc.org/

What's the least shit DLC?

In my opinion, it's SLG. SPARKs are underwhelming, but there's nothing that actively hurts the game like in the other two.

I just decided to pirate this shit and what do you mean by the that?

So, is there a pirated version that isn't the "oops we fucked up and released the shitty pre-release dev version"?

Falling for such obvious bait guys…..you should be ashamed

Anarchy's Children ruins the aestheticby adding in tacky gimp and biker gear to go with your ragtag rebels and Alien Hunters has fucking ridiculous weapons that look like a fantasy MMO reject, unfair enemies, and it makes the game even more fucking snowbally by giving you straight upgrades to vanilla items and then requiring you to have them to do well against the new bosses.

Can you customizethe snakes? or any other alien race you get in your squad.

**I want sectoids dressed as the Prince of Belair.

My team is better

Can you go more indepth?

The only part i agree with you is about the graphics, mostly how laggy the whole thing is.

Who designed this shit? Seriously, What the hell? Does someone not know the importance of action economy?

It would have been better if they were lone bossfights rather than ambushes that happen in escort missions.

This shit happens in escort missions? By sheer logic, it should be an auto lose by the virture of the "ruler" unit being able to take all their turns to get within range and start firing at it. Please tell me the AI is dumb and doesn't actually do that.

The AI is incredibly dumb and tends to spend it's actions moving around. This is the one reason you are able to even beat the Alien rulers.
But yes, they have a tendency of showing up on escort missions and killing the escort to fuck with you.

Have any advice for taking out this Viper King? With what actually looks like 40 HP and 2 armor, I'm not sure how well I'm going to fair against it since my ongoing game hasn't been going on very long.

Use the free items they gave you, duh

Rulers run when you've done enough damage to them and flee the battle completely. They'll then turn up on later missions with as much health as when you last fought them until you've killed them.

They also don't get actions during the enemy turn if activated (as far as I recall) and the timers on status effects affecting them only apply when they take an action rather than each turn (but counts down each action they take rather than every turn so in general status effects last less time not longer and you can't use this to abuse poison). I also think the harpoon gun they give you has a higher chance to stun on Rulers but I may be wrong.

Actions taken byuy concealed soldiers or that don't consume a action also don't let the Rulers react.

So basically abuse the special gear they give you, shred their armour ASAP, hope a soldier with a repeater scores a lucky hit which insta-kills the ruler, line up crits with concealed soldiers and if you encounter it alone without a time-limit then don't be (too) afraid to end your turn if only one or two of your soldiers actually has a decent shot or you are really relying on a specific ability.

To be honest, as hilarious as the idea that Vahlen using Viper/Berserker/Archons to create her own harem of killer husbandos/waifus is, the Alien Rulers DLC was kind of a fuck up, as other anons have said, if they were set up as big tough bosses in their own special missions then they could be interesting, as long as they're alone the whole "Ruler reaction" thing could even be interesting but as random enemies that are basically specifically designed to fuck over the player (especially when you encounter them with bodyguards/other pods) they're rather bullshit.

Even with that, I just don't have the firepower to down him in one go.

Oh, I get ya. He just fled and I'm down one guy, might go and retry know that I know.

Wait, what repeater? I havne't gotten a repeater at all. Just the Bolt Caster, Hunter's Axe, and the Shadowkeeper. Though I will remember to use the Bolt Caster on him now.

The attachment for your weapons that gives you a 5/10/15% chance of insta-killing anything you hit.

Any news on xenonaughts 2?

I don't know I don't think they've have any news on Xenonougats 2
Quit doing it on purpose you fucker

I wish I had one. All I've so far are a couple scopes and one hair trigger.

Do what on purpose?

Yes you do, as long as you have all your troops and the hunter weapons you can take down the Viper King in one go.

So are these loading screen supposed to be mimicing Sanic '06 in terms of length?

The ones on the way back to HQ can be mostly skipped by hitting capslock. In EU you could skip all of them this way, but it's only on the way back this time for whatever fucking reason.

...

Why caps lock?

...

Is that really the official story?

You are given that she wants to use the rulers against the aliens, but what they do after or when they aren't killing is not mentioned.

What would you consider a major tweak?

Are there any mods that make the late-game harder?

The shit that the Long War team has put out recently - The reworked skills and such. Although from looking at them, I find their balance questionable at best and weebshit ("Shinobi" Class) at worst.

Can't be worse than the vanilla balance

Better Advent? My plan was to use both together, but I can't get mods to work at all on XCOM2.

If I remember correctly, it's a debug thing. It does cause the game to hang for the second or two it takes to load, so maybe they worried it'd cause performance issues.

Have mods been fixed yet, or is everything still fucked because of SlG?
