Carriers are not out their alone user, the cruisers and destroyers run off jet turbines as well as fuel for the planes. Fuel costs for a battle group could run 50-60 million for a patrol. But as i said earlier this is all in the budget as normal operating costs. These ships would be underway for six months out of the year regardless.

Also, it's been years since I've been out. But I recall them saying it costs millions of dollars just to move the carrier out of homeport if they're going on a deployment, or even a three day cruise for tests.
