It doesn't make sense for it to be that the rest of the team decided to fuck over S-Purple in this way, either. If that were the case, he wouldn't have another, nearly identical project. There are a million and one potential ways they could lie to get out of it, but this isn't one of them. It seems like you want it to be that the whole team was complicit. Not saying that it's impossible, but if you've ever been a programmer having to work with an artist, you know that this isn't out of the question. The vast majority of artists are egotists with primadonna attitudes that threaten the project in some way. If you find a humble artist, hang onto him like Kojima hangs onto Shinkawa.

S-purple doesn't need to be complicit, Hbomb just needs to be obstructive enough to make him want to quit. Given we don't have S-purple's account of the story, we can't say for certain, but in any case both of them have reason to lie.

If he did intend to finish it, depending on how it's programmed, it could be very difficult and time-consuming to rework the game to use all of the new assets. (Which would have to be paid for again, adding a cost of thousands of dollars.) It could potentially add months onto the project's dev time, but at $9000 a month, you'd better believe it'd be worth it. Especially when they don't actually have a deadline or "budget" and just get renewable money every month.

I wouldn't say I was ignoring that fact, I was just more focusing on the matter of simply finding a replacement at all. That alone would not be hard with $9,000 a month on the line. So many of us artists would be elated to make that.

As for the whole style and quality issue, I agree that's a further complication, but even then, that kinda pay means they'd have the pick of all the artists who would touch such material at all. We aren't a rich lot, unless there are some monster-porn-friendly artists who are secretly trust fund babies or just won the lottery. So unless the fans absolutely want the original artist's stuff first and foremost or nothing else matters end of story, getting an acceptable replacement shouldn't be hard. I can think of an artist or two I'd say is better myself, for example. I was never huge on how that guy drew boobs, for one thing.

As for clashing styles I agree that's never good, but they'd have to start from scratch no matter what since the guy won't let them use ANYTHING he drew anyway. An aesthetically consistent full restart is a given.

Anyway, as long as the other people's morale isn't completely destroyed, I don't think it's doomed as long as most backers are open to the potential of another top-tier porn artist. Which they can afford, as long as they have that budget, which they have as long as they keep the backers. If enough people ditch them to follow the original artist, then yeah, it's doomed. Most people believe they're capable of being leaders, most people are wrong. On the other hand, most people think that the leader has to be the direction of whatever is going on.

Look at big name companies, the project leaders just make sure everyone's coordinated, but the actual direction process is steered by the designers, and they don't have more authority than the project leads, they just have the creative direction to deal with.

S-purple was the only factor at all that kept people interested.

Ok, I'm gonna give my two cents as an animator here.

There was a zero percent chance this game would ever actually get done, and for every single reason listed in the blog post. If you checked the wiki at any point before today you'd have learned that there were over a thousand sex animations left in the game for just existing assets and that's just the bare minimum with no special events. Under normal workflow that's something in the neighborhood of 20 years of animating for just one person, and even if they divided it up amongst multiple people that money would run out fast, simply because good animators don't work cheap and if it's a passion project done for free any professional would put it on the backburner any time their actual paying job needed more work, which is often.

And that's just the monster breeding. Any special stuff like actually getting to have sex with the human characters or having special events is on top of that. The actual animations in the game don't even work properly half the time as is because the proper textures don't load.

With two breeders and nine monsters this was never going to work. Especially with a majority of the monsters having like half a dozen different variations. Default female breeder and three or four monsters to cover the basic body types(and MAYBE gender flips or like ONE variant beyond that) would have meant 90% of the animation would be done now. There was on reason to have Dickwolves AND Stallions AND Demons since they all boil down to "muscular dude with a big dick".

S-Purple is not a disciplined artist and his new project would just crash and burn even harder. He's clearly that kind of douchebag who just draws whatever cool comes to his head with no discipline and just expects everyone else to figure it out.

From an even earlier point, he'd mentioned reusing animation rigs, which I never actually saw happen. It's clear that H's stated intentions ran afoul of someone's pie-in-the-sky fixation on uniqueness.

That's assuming that you're ONLY doing animation though. The whole pipeline needs to get done. I know they were trying to hire more people but that clearly didn't pan out. Even then, that's only two thirds what the average is for professionals. It's less than even most entry level gigs for the requirements they were asking for.

While it would be great to have lots of high quality animation across thousands of parings you'd either need to take second, third, or even lower tier animators who work cheap but do mediocre work, or do fewer parings at higher quality. If it were me I'd do the latter but that's just me.

That's a common problem with young or undisciplined artists. Everyone WANTS to do a cool unique thing every time they can but people who've had experience will always tell you you have to compromise somewhere.

It's far more common than it should be even in a professional context for someone to want uniqueness and just throwing up their hands and saying they want every asset to be unique. Invariably the people who need to make this happen always groan and either try to talk them out of it or count down the days til they can leave this trainwreck.

You know, if they really wanted to go that far they should've used a 3D engine with cel shading. Much more efficient performance and development wise, more modular and it'd have looked like 2d with some effort, all at the cost of some more people working on the project.

Flash is a tool, not a crutch. Using puppeting and motion tweens will always look bad unless you're so good and experienced in doing it the "right" way you can do it right, but if you have that kind of experience you can command enough money that the time difference isn't much in terms of funds. The game gets done faster but it still costs the same.

Brackenwood, which is one of the few early 00's cartoons that holds up, was made in flash. But it was made by an experienced professional who knew what he was doing. The same applies to every project. If you try to compromise in the wrong spot you'll just wind up with something that looks like total shit.

Which is kind of what happened here. They tried to do too much too fast and as a result shit kept happening. Some animations are broken. Some don't work properly. It's actually very rare in the game for you to be told a certain pairing would produce a good result, and the actual breeding to show the monsters you picked and play properly.

It's weird to see Flash going the way of the dinosaurs. Shit used to be everywhere and in everything.

The thing is that nowadays there's nothing Flash can do that other programs can't do better. It's rather rapidly being forced out of professional environments just because stuff like Toonboom and a dozen other programs can do it and better, especially when it comes to replicating the "feel" of pencil on paper drawings without the physical limitations associated with the medium.

Especially now that adobe shit the bed and changed the licensing from pay and done to extended licensing so now you have to pay them 20 dollars a month FOREVER.

Even if you're just animating and want to use adobe, After Effects is getting more popular since you can also use it to composite and do limited 3d work, so you can do more with it.
