it is a fairly good comeptitive modern deck, so its shouldn't be that surprising that it's expensive. My wincon is usually just mistbind/vendilion clique beats after locking my opponent out of whatever their plan was. You'd be amazed how well you can race aggro decks that try to flood out a second time (since you have to deal with the first and that's the hard part) with a clique + some cryptics and snaps for fogging.

This deck is on the more expensive side of the mid-tier decks too, burn is a lot better and signifiganty cheaper, aside from goblin guides, and Mesas if you go RW for boros charm, and Infect is all just commons and uncommons with some slight expense in the manabase. I used to play mostly edh but all the decks I enjoyed playing people didn't want to play against, like Hanna, Ships's Navigator stax, original Teferi combo, and Dralnu time stretch.dec

It's still active on the online scene. Most of what you'll find online are Sin, Raven, Kum, Johnny, and Sol players when it comes to ranked, but you'll get a few surprising ones here and there (I have a lot of respect seeing Slayer players in ranked and being high up despite how most people consider him low tier). Player/lobby matches will have a lot more variety of characters people play, mostly to practice against other players, but are usually a lot of fun.

As for this years lineup at EVO, I'd have to double check and see who the big players are, but I believe OgawaZato (the winner of last year's EVO as Zato-1) is coming back off the top of my head.

As for matchups, it varies on who you decide to main. From my personal experience, the worst matchups I have playing as Jack-O are Sin and Axl. Axl due to his attacks able to destroy my houses and keep me at a distance where I have little to no options. Sin is just a bad matchup for everyone in general, as he can punish you SEVERELY if you make one mistake (though again varies on who you main for how bad said mistake is). Despite that, I've been able to overcome and defeat a lot of the Axl and Sin players I come across, but it's always good to know your main's weaker matchups. Do you already have a main in mind?

Honestly I'm still figuring the game out as I go. My controller is ass so that doesn't help, but Sol is pretty darn fun so far. I'm thinking of trying out Faust, Milia and Jack-O too since they seem fun (don't worry, she's all yours).

All good characters. Sol's a good character to learn to play offensively (Ky's more for learning to play carefully and defensively in my opinion, but I don't really play as Ky so I could be wrong on that), having a lot of powerful attacks that can setup some good combos.

Faust is a bit slower with his moves and has some RNG mechanics with his one move where he throws out random things at his opponents. The trick with that move is that you need a plan to go with whatever you throw out to your advantage. Otherwise, he's a fun character to use and can catch a lot of people off guard.

Millia is a very rushdown close range character, having a lot of versatility with how she can roll from one side to the other to keep her opponent guessing till it's too late for them to react, and can keep the opponent from retaliating properly with her one disc move after knocking her opponent down. Her air combos are devastating as well.

No worries on that end, but if you do decide to play as Jack-O and we wind up fighting each other online, NO MERCY NO RESPITE! JACK-O AND I WILL PROVE THAT WE'RE THE BEST DAMN BATTLE COUPLE AGAINST ALL JACK-O PLAYERS!

Johnny can be really fun, but he quite a bit of time to learn how he plays. He surprisingly is a character that dashes rather than runs when trying to run to your opponent, requires precise timing with his attacks, and it's challenging to do a lot of his combos, but his combos can be very devastating, can catch the opponent off guard, and is fun as hell to play. In the right hands and with proper training, he can be a very formidable opponent (he's also considered high tier, but requires a lot of work to master). The way his coin mechanic works is that when he hits an opponent with one, it powers up his mist finer moves (an attack where he draws his sword that can hit at different angles depending on the button used during the command) and hitting your opponent with 2 of them makes it even more powerful and can set up for even more combos in addition to the amount of damage it can do. Thing is, the coins only power up one mist finer strike, so timing and planning on which combo to use in the situation you're in is key. You can even make the mist finer move unblockable if you get your opponent in a Baccus sigh cloud (smoke that makes your opponent unable to block a mist finer attack), but it's rather slow and can disappear if you're hit, so best used if the opponent is down and not able to retaliate right away.

I'm planning on perhaps subbing him or waiting to see if they're going to release Baiken much later or in the next installment, cause I love iai/battojutsu sword styles.

May is one of the game's few charge characters (at least for some of her attacks not all of them). Unlike most charge characters though, a couple of her charge moves make her very mobile, summoning a dolphin to move her towards your opponent in various directions and angles. Other charge moves set up a dolphin that can stay in place (similar to Juri's SF4 fireball holding I think), and summon an otter that throws a bouncing beach ball for pressure. She's very powerful and not to be underestimated (know that all too well after fighting a may fighter offline).

If you do get the game, I hope you have a lot of fun learning the characters you want to play!

Also, while walking through the local park to catch Pokemon, I ran into a group of folks who do some kind of medieval combat fighting game (called Dagohir, IIRC.) I used to be pretty big into martial arts and local university "sword clubs" but didn't keep going because of either the cost (for martial arts dojos) or the people generally being faggots (in the case of the sword clubs.) But these guys seemed pretty cool and noted that moves that weren't allowed in the university sword clubs were allowed in their group (such as shield bashing, striking the head, and even grappling.) I'm looking forward to seeing how I fare and getting a good workout through it.
