also could be a server thing. on levi uldah is still decently populated, while loading into idyllshire or LL from a teleport takes anywhere from 5-30s depending on the time of day.

unless the dps has a weapon that's 20+ ilvls ahead of the tanks weapon, there is no excuse. even a pld just rotating RoH can hold hate off the most balls to the wall aoe-happy deeps, as long as that pld is aware of things like "Flash" and "Circle of Scorn."

when those are done, are you doing the highest level dungeon you can do every now and then (as a dps its good to just sit in Q while you do other things, since it can take awhile. tanks and healers can just Q up whenever for the most part)
have you finished your hunting log for that level bracket (if you have one)?
are there any FATE parties open for your level?

throw up a party in PT finder and you can head to a lot of those areas 1-3 levels earlier than youd expect if people join up with you. there are almost always (on levi anyway) FATE parties for crystals in the xpac zones, as well as N. thanalan and camp dragonhead FATE parties, and on the odd chance there aren't any, just create one and it should see some action in a few minutes.

the game encourages diversity in leveling as opposed to rote grinding of enemies. the one thing that actually could truly be grinded out was removed WAYYYY back in the day (old DD chain first FATE with the insane Lamb of Dalamud spawn rate). between FATE, dungeon roulette, challenges, quests and hunting log, getting to 50 isn't a problem. 50+ can take a bit longer comparatively, but you also gain relatively more power per level (new job skills every 2 levels instead of every 5).

keep at it and don't become bogged down. switch up your class every now and then so things stay fresh. blow some cash on a low level map and have fun finding the treasure with a buddy or two. dont let yourself get stuck into a rut!

I know that you can use more cross-class shit from a bigger variety of classes compared to Jobs, but most shit seems worthless outside of what you can already get in a Job anyways. There has to be something I'm missing, otherwise why even make it an option in the first place?

ive met one mnk who was insane enough in sephEX to make me worry a little bit, but he was in a regular savage midas farming group and had the 145 deep gobdip hellfire claws. and even then the whm overtook him during add phase.

mnk is the only dps that will consistently pull aggro in any extended fight. blm might take it on adds if they blow their wad and aoe right away, but i can take that back with a single or double SC no problem. id like to have a situation where a mnk doesnt have to worry about dodging aoe and can just go whole hog. the way things are now, fight mechanics are a mnks aggro drop.

Yeah it's one of the higher population servers, especially busy around prime time. Just be careful when using the dungeon finder - although nearly everyone on Tonberry speaks english, the dungeon finder will more often than not put you with people from other Japanese servers that don't or will pretend to not know english and won't help you if you have problems.

The upside is that the average JP player is far better at the game than the average NA player and wiping to dumb shit pretty much never happens anyways.

Join an FC as quick as you can and if you need help with anything else give Irus Mao a tell.

Various server issues that end in outages for scores of people at once, on top of inexcusibly frequent downtime for maintenance, are often enough to rub me the wrong way, at least. Doing the hw relic grind from scratch has quickly reminded how utterly shit the hw fates are. The bosses have too much damn health and the enemy count is overtuned for a single player. It gave me 15 minutes to slowly chip away at 100 enemies. What kind of nip-nong ching-chong bs is that?

It's supposedly soloable for everyone up to a certain point and you level up within the dungeon and start from some basic level too. It looks fun and could be a fun way to kill time once you get capped for the week.

I have 4 more UIs and then I can focus on sands. I'm just having second thoughts on which relic I want to focus on and I really DO NOT want to do this shit again. I have 40 or so Umbrite, so I'm making good progress on that stage given how long it's taking me to get the UIs.

Very easy rotation even at 60. The only thing that can fuck you is a boss going invulnerable or untargetable, which happens a lot. Fuck those hw bosses.

I started with the Ast relic, but I recently went back to Whm and it's really addicting even if I miss messing with cards. The ogc heals are a thing og beauty and there are many of them too. The only thing that would make it more beautiful is a shorter cd on Assize to like 60s rather than 90. We might get traits in 4.0 that give us that, so there may be hope for more mana.

I'm thinking about switching to Whm main from Ast. I've been playing Blm, so the lore weapon is more than good for that. I just need to go through crystals again, so that I can get the Whm relic ready if I decide to go that route or I can just stick with me i200 Ast relic instead.

I leveled all of my ARR beast tribes rather than just focusing on the hw tribes for takens. I eventually did max rank those as well, so it's taken me months to get through UI. I got to see more of the game and now have access to more mounts and goodies, so I'd say it was worth it.

It also gave me time to gear my crafters with the i180 gear and start selling the relic crafted mats to others for millions. 3.5 is a few days away from what I've read, so that gravy train may be going away if UIs get nerfed then. If they don't then I'll at least be able to make some millions more until they do.

I joined post HW release so I didn't really touch those, didn't know the significance as a solo player.

The upside is if UIs get nerfed they'll nerf the amount required
The downside is I'll be almost fucking done and won't really benefit other than 72 hours progress.
At least it'll be over, one way or another. It was awful.

On a side note, I now have the stats and gear to craft the i190 crafting set myself, but the mats are going for more than the finished product on the mb. This shit is fucked until the spec recipes go away in the next patch or so. We'll be getting new offhands too from what I've read, so that'll help a bit. Also, I've read that the difference between crafting tiers is about 13%, so the min stats for 4 star should be in the mid-900s. That's very doable with a mix of red script gear, i170 crafted gear and the i170 jewelry melds.

Yeah it's called not running floor 1-40 again when you can just requeue for the floors where you might, MIGHT, get a tiny chance of upgrading your aether gear.

Sure you can just drop the party and eat 30min penalty (which is nothing compared to hours of tedious floors) or niggas can kindly votekick each other so we can all game the shitty system.

yes, if you get a 30+ aether weapon you can exchange it for a glamour.

I only tested this once but it turns out you can kill the final boss and then use Task Manager to kill the game process before using the exit portal. Logged in 10 min later and was reset back to the floor 41 entrance.
Hopefully this works every time. I don't know if you keep the potsherd, didn't check, probably not.

It's like a 80 yalm aoe. There's no running away from it if you were in melee range when it goes off. Also, enemies autocast their abilities once they turn back from being frogs, etc. Rupture doesn't have a cast time either, so if the slime isn't burnt down in times, it's an immediate wipe to anyone withing striking range. Always keep a healer or dps at max distance from slimes. That way if it does explode, that person can raise the entire group.

Umbrites are pretty boring, but the 200-210 step is till by far the worst they've ever done. It combines every shitty part of the arr relic quest into one giant fuck you. It's pretty smooth after that, so players will more than likely shoot right to i230 by the time they get the mats for the 200-210 stage. Having said that, I have a ton of umbrite and not nearly enough sand to use it all. For me, sands are the pain in the ass, but it's still a few months till 3.4, so I'm in no rush.

You can get a mount, minions, a i235 weapon, tier 5 materia and tome stones.

Your gear and weapon power are based on a new system in Palace of the Dead that's heavily rng-based. The cap is 30 for weapon and armor, but you can only raise them once your level is double your armor level. That means that once you get to 20 or so in either stat, you can only raise it on the last set of floors. The major issue with this is that the rng can absolutely fuck you and force you to go through floors 1-40 again with nothing to show except a token for a mount, minions or materia. What ends up happening is players at that point will run 41-50 until they get upgrades and they'll leave, asked to be kicked or wipe the party if they don't. The whole systems is pretty fucking stupid post 20, so I can understand why they'd do it.

I managed to duo the last boss after the other two left at 49. Luckily, it's a very easy boss when the players know what to do with her mechanics.

You look away from her during Cold Feet and stay out of every aoe IN HEALTH or else it adds counters to her wipe mechanics.

I believe the best thing SE could do is add a separate portal to leave a floor without saving. It could be a red portal or they could add a guaranteed +1 to the final boss. I doubt they would ever do +1, so the other portal may be the best compromise.

I can't fault them. Castrum is so fucking boring after the 1000th run that all you want to do is get your tombs and get out. Even as a tank, I literally auto-pilot and make the dumbest mistakes because I'm usually watching a show in the middle of the run.

Depends on the kind of person you are and what healer it is. All the healers require Cleric Stance to actually deal modest damage towards the end of their careers. White Mages generally have the most risk associated with Cleric Stance while it sort of comes naturally to Scholar with all the options they have for alternate healing.

I main NIN but try them all to mix it up now and then, on PS4 -since my pcs a toaster and i got a ps4 as a gift- i was surprised how easy tanking and healer is with a controller. And im louging about listening to music or watching videos on my laptop, i cant imagine how bored you must be if you are a pc player sitting at a desk.

Theoretically, but that amount of time can seem fairly insignificant when you weigh the amount of effort it would take to actually bother stance-dancing and focusing on burning mobs down.

A run is going to feel faster if you're not actively participating in it. So why not auto-follow the tank, alt-tab, only occasionally switching back to swiftcast medica II? Of course, I'm not advocating for this kind of thing even though I'm guilty of it from time to time. It's just a behavior you get used to after awhile.

That's also assuming the healer in question wasn't just really insecure and refused to DPS on the fear of both tanks suddenly dropping dead.

Sitting there waiting for other people to finish doing something and not taking part feels like a greater waste of time for me.

How easy is it to get to the level cap in this game solo? I don't want to burden any FC while I'm learning the game. Also, how's PvE and the raiding scene? PvP?

Well, that depends. What class are you actually leveling? DPS, tank or healer?

I think more than anything I'm going to play a tank, if it's too hard to level as a tank then melee DPS.

Dark Knights inb4 edge, Monks, and Dragoons look fun to play.

Tanks in terms of fun go Warrior > Dark Knight > Paladin.

They're all viable anyway so go with whatever you like.

That's a little difficult to say. Tanks are hard, but not in a conventional sense where they're difficult to play. In a group, they have the highest responsibility which is controlling monsters and your companions alike.Your primary job is enmity management and that can get difficult at times.

Luckily for you, tanks generally have the shortest dungeon ques. So as long as you're doing your Main Story for maximum EXP and on top of your daily roulettes I don't see why you wouldn't be 60 in under 3 weeks.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume enmity is to FFXIV as threat is to WoW.

As a PC player, how it's even possible to fit everything on the controller layout? I know you can switch between hotbars with R-L shoulder buttons, but i have like three standart hotbars on my ui for active presses and it's barely enough, and that is not counting uitility hotbars for marking and equipping gearsets.
I have a compatible joystick and i think about trying it someday.

What class do you play? I play nin. I have my basic rotations and ninjutsu on every hot bar and different stuff in the middle, and switch between them reall quick. It's really hard to explain, but it feels comfortable and works really well once you get used to it.

MCH got huge buffs in 3.2 and nearly everyone stopped using BRD for it. BRD did get some good buffs in 3.3 but most groups continue to use MCH instead

DRK has always been good and was the MT of choice in gordias, PLD got buffed in 3.2 so they are more in line with each other now. in fact due to the nature of midas PLD sees slightly more use than DRK as MT nowadays (drk and war still shit all over pld for dungeon running though)

AST is still shit, it got buffed but still can't compete with the consistancy and usefulness of either WHM or SCH for savage progression

as for the other classes, WAR and SCH are always required. DRG is in hot demand over MNK due to it's crit buff. NIN is nearly always taken due to its usefulness. BLM and SMN are pretty much interchangable

tl;dr mostly everything is fairly balanced at the moment and if you are not doing savage then play what you want

Depends on the job really. All casters except Scholar can fit everything on one bar + both halves of the extended bar. Some people have it set up so that tapping LB swaps between bar 1 and bar 2, with bar 3 being the extended bar, but I try to fit it all on just bar 1 + extended. Some jobs like DRG and MCH, which use basically every single fucking skill ever, are going to require special planning. There are a very few macros which can help you save space, like a WAR macro to swap IB with FC and SC with Decimate when you swap stances, but sometimes you're just plain out of luck.

For actually planning your cross bars, it's a good idea to put skills you will potentially use while moving on face buttons, and ones you won't be on the d-pad, since it's way easier to hit face buttons while using the left joystick. That's all the advice I can offer though.

I resubbed this month after not playing for 3 years and been having a lot of fun with the new content that's been added. I thought AST looked cool and I've been having fun with it, but as I've started 50+ dungeons I've felt very weak compared to my whm. I thought it was just my gear or not knowing the class yet, but I see this is a problem other people have as well. Does anyone think SE will buff AST more? What changes do you think they need to do to the class?

You trade healing potency for the ability to buff your party. As long as you can keep everyone alive without them having to pop excess buffs, they'll actually appreciate you more than WHMs.

I use different jobs for different things. Ninja can be a solo dps monster but if its something cleavey ill go DRK instead.

Honestly, do the Deep Dungeon with something you're interested in leveling. It lets you explore the full potential of another job without busting your balls grinding for days.

Lets you try a class in level ups of seconds and gets 3 levels for a clear outside anyway so you can try everything and get any kind of progression and it doesnt involve dungeon ques and the trinity.

I'm understanding it gives cosmetics, which is nice, but is it worth it to go down there as a class you literally just picked up? Like say I grabbed the lance for the first lancer quest, ignored the actual quest and ran to the dungeon. Is it really worth going down there as lancer or should I stick to my higher level main?

Everything dies in the lower levels so quickly you can pretty much spam whatever skill you open up. You can look at your skills between levels. So say you go through floors 1-10, get to level 20, beat the boss and exit; you can take a breather with your current class and look at the skills you unlocked and set up your bar however you want.

well we got these thing called voidsent which are basically demons from another dimension called the void. some of these demons came and fucked a few humans or hyur or whatever and now we have au ra. now they walk around being k-pop stars and generally just doing what all the other races are doing.

They're related to succubi. You can see the obvious stuff like the horns and au ra have scales in the same places as succubi.

7 runs and i got the 235 aether astro item and got astro from 30-49, not bad.
