Yeah, the basics. But there is also a custom NPC who can warp you to towns you have unlocked. most basic towns are already unlocked, but some towns/dungeons need to be bought for unlocking.

There is a quest in Prontera with the SavePoint NPC in the center of town that will help you get some freebies when you unlock certain cities.

You have to find an NPC tucked away in each map to be able to teleport there, and fulfill their request to unlock it.
For teleports to non-starter towns, this is just delivering letters to their SavePoint girls.

Well, ok then. I'm not familiar with these new town because I used to play before 2-2 classes got introduced and during the update that implemented Comodo/Emperium war.

Those three places are fucking comfy as hell with the proper guild.

Meanwhile Moscovia may be a crazy idea at the start, it may be a great one to move later on. Just hear out the OST I left in that one post and you'll understand.

The one I posted is Moscovia's dungeon. You just can't get comfier while grinding items and gold my man. Put a Discord to talk with the guildmates and you can lose hours and hours in this place without noticing it.

I miss my tank High Priest, I miss my Taekwon Rank that would grind Nameless with the tip of his dick, I miss my Whitesmith grinding that one new dungeon that you access through the WC, I miss my Soul Linker grinding the New World with a Ninja friend next to me.

Seriously, Ninja + Soul Linker is the most OP and easy thing in the New World. They can't be killed cause 100% dodge, Kaizel and long range attacks.

I'm posting this in hopes of letting others see the jobs available to them in this server.

Lets start with where everyone starts.

Novices can't really do too much. They have a skill that can be learned via a quest called "Play Dead" that is handy, but you lose the skill if you chose any other job class (I forget is Super Novices keep it or not). Get to job level 10 and decide on what class you want next.

Your basic physical strong hitter class. Carries a sword (two handed or single handed), spear, or dagger, and a shield (if you're using a single handed sword/dagger). Swordsmen can be built a few different ways. My personal choice is to build his stats in STR, AGI and some DEX. If you're going to be a tank, swap out AGI for VIT.

Toss magic bolts of different elements at your foes. Wields staffs or daggers. Magicians are best used with INT (for strong spells) and DEX (for faster casting) builds. Other good skill points can be AGI to evade attacks, or VIT to take more hits.

Long range fighter. Archers who are using bows require arrows. So always keep an eye out on your arrow count before going into the field as arrows are consumables. You can find arrows for sale in most NPC shops. Archers Damage with a bow is determined by the DEX Stat. So pump up that DEX. Similar to the mage AGI can help you evade foes while VIT can let you take more hits.

The Happy Merchant is here! Merchants are primarily used by players who just want to get more profits on the loot they sell to NPCs. But can also be used to sell items to players by setting up a shop. You'll find lots of player owned shops around towns. Merchants can also be good fighters similar to swordsmen. To be completely honest, I don't really have a good idea on how best to make your merchant, but if you'd like to fight with a sword, dagger, or axe, I'd recommended a similar build to a swordsman.

This game took 9 years of my life. I refuse to go back.

Agile and quick hitters, Thief's can do very well for a new player who's looking to get a bit more out of each fight. Using daggers or swords Thief's can learn double hit as a passive skill to sneak in a little extra damage per hit. They can also attempt to steal items off monsters even if they don't fight them at all! Thief's are built best with STR and AGI in mind with some DEX thrown in. There are other ways to build a Thief but that's just my suggestion.

Everyone's best friend. The main healer of the party. Acolyte's specialize in buffing and healing other members of their team. Build them with INT for stronger heals and more SP or be a combat Acolyte and put points into STR. Ether way, remember to buff your self and your party members.

That's all the basic classes for now. Perhaps next thread I'll get into others.

Decide your job 2 class, then look up a build and stick with it. Ratemyserver is the go to wikia for everything.

On this server you can have two options: Change job through NPC or do the job change quest and receive 40k zenny plus a job specific item that boost your stat.

You can get to professor. You'll need to start out as a Magician, then at job level 40-50 (mages should always go to 50) they can become Sages. Then once you hit base level 99/Job 50 you can go transcend. You'll be reborn as a High Novice (at level 1/1). then repeat the mage process and get to the point where you'd go Sage once again. Now instead of becoming a Sage you'll be a Professor.

There are more details to it, but thats the basics of it.

In my case I was the catfish. I still pull that shit from time to time. Helped me get a shitload of items in Final Fantasy XIV. I do not understand how people never seem to learn to never trust a "woman" in a MMO.

how does tanking work in an top down rpg setting? and is a paladin a tank?

A Crusader/Paladin has a few builds but they are basically a tank.

Swordsmen have the chance to learn the skill Provoke. This will be very useful later on as you can provoke most enemies to attack only you (the crusader). With lots of defense and loads of HP, you can take the beating while your party members kill the monster that's agroed on you.

If you have a healer on your team, you'll be a force to be reckoned with.

Ah yes, merchants. I don't know why, but I just love being this class. I usually price my stuffs 10% lower. Not because I love the money. I don't know, I just love being a provider. Shite fighter though. Never make it to blacksmith. Never a min-maxers in any video games.

Just grind and level up your "basic skill" skill. It takes 9 job levels. But it shouldn't take more than a few mobs, afterwards you should be good to go change job. Or keep going until you turn Super Novice :^)

Blacksmith and Alchemist are really strong user, you'll be rewarded for your efforts as a merchant

Reminder that High Priest requires the most skill from all the classes. In WoE playing an HP is a nightmare where your fingers will crack nonstop.

It was almost already ruined with rebirth due to how easy with a correct party was destroying in seconds MvPs; one of the beauties of RO was competing with others to see which party gets the MvP, with Rebirth this became "first come first serve" and afterwards with 3rd jobs was "Don't even try".
WoEs got heavily ruined because of 3rd jobs too, extended classes became even more useless.

3rd Jobs are cancer user, if you want to have fun while being a power house play a god damn server with 500 as Max level with more than 1K rates.

Angelic Guard is a super novice item, good for the super novice set.

And because it came from a low level boss monster, its not too valued. On this market I'd see it getting maybe 10-50k. Check around the other stores. I'm sure some others are offering about that price.

totally new player to RO here. I couldn't stomach the over populated (bots) in the current version so I haven't played more than an hour of this.

I usually make tank characters so I gotta ask, are they any good in this game? Alternatively, what about a DPS warrior? Or would that just be better as a thief class?

Knights make for pretty good hybrids

Tanks can be pretty great. Mind that at higher levels of play you'll have to worry about more than just raw HP, but its still an appreciated job.

Currently on my crusader character.

+fucktons of HP
+Resistance to Holy as well as Unholy and Demons and extra damage to undead
+Specalize in ether being a holy explosion or your parties living wall.
+Get a mount that moves you a bit faster than most players (exclusive to Knights and Crusaders)
+Minor self healing if speced correctly.

It's a fun class. Just try to work with a party for best results. I don't think crusaders do too well solo unless built for specific fights.

Its not what you expect. I can already tell you as much:
- He can heal, but the heal is rubbish, kinda.
- He sacrifices his own health to deal massive damage against undead and demons
- He sacrifices health to always deal 2K damage no matter the defense, race or whatever of your opponent
- His shield is his sword, he throws his shield like a boomerang. With the proper build he can become a ranged character with a lot of DPS just by throwing a massive shield with massive defense
- The tankiest motherfucker of the entire game, it has the highest defense and second highest HP, because Lord Knights Frenzy is just too much to compete
- When he rebirths into a Paladin he can chant some kind of weird opera and give random buffs that can be decisive and strong as fuck
- When he's a Paladin he can stick his dick up to a friend/party member and the Paladin takes the damage instead of your target. This is used so instead of the party wipping, only the Paladin dies.
- Because of how the Paladin works, the best way to play him on a party is as an AFK leech machine anti-wipes with some boomerang throws or some healing here and there
- He's the second fastest on movement speed thanks to riding a PecoPeco (think of a chocobo)

If you wanna be the warrior side of a Paladin, I have bad news for you, crusaders can't into that. Your best bet would be Lord Knight.

As i said yesterday, i made a character today finally.

In game name is Lokrav

Actually due how varied the game actually is. There are multiple tanks and different tank styles.
For example.
For PvE
AGI Knights/Sin for tanking. With AGI you have to rely on managing mob numbers as too many will overcome your dodge and kill you.
There is also just straight up face tanking with resist gear which knights are best at.
Monks get mental strength which allows them become a slow walking almost unstoppable gigga nigga of unbreakable things.
Then with gear, a sinx can get 100 perfect dodge, which means any attack in the game that isn't a skill will miss. This build is used to break servers with Mi-Gao farming or for farming bio 1/2 or anywhere.
Also full support priests can be used as tanks in a pinch, but its best to let them do their thing, FS builds are meant to not die.

Then there are PvP tanks. Which were mostly used for WoE which includes stacking VIT and resist gear.

FS priests. LKs. Crusaders for devo and fucking geared FS profs.
Fucking FS profs can tank entire god damn guilds and keep on trucking if they are geared right. Its fucking insane.

Crusaders are bit of a niche and require a class to function best.
Your best bet as a crusader is to face tank with a priest helping you. Tanks are invaluable in RO as squishy classes can be killed in 1-2 shots if they are unlucky.

Also keep in mind this server's over 10 years old.

They can tank, but are better suited as tanky-supports that shift damage from other squishy teammates towards themselves. In this version of the game the most ideal tank is usually a heavily geared Lord Knight sitting in Safety Wall spamming Counter Attack and potions.

Knights unfortunately can't function very well as a DPS class, all the ideal ones are either ranged or are also tanking the boss (Whitesmiths). Knights work better as pure tanks. Lord Knights however can do some insane shit with buff-stacked Berserk though.

This guy's got the right idea, do quests to help your leveling, the moscovia quests are nice and there are a lot of other quests spread around as far as i remember.

The Brasilis dungeon quest was EXTREMELY EASY AND SHORT and gives good exp.

No idea how to do moscovia stuff, me and a bud got there and got lost tryna find some faggot ass boy and a sailor asks for einbroch/gonryun stuff, will come back there later.
I'm not caring much about leveling fast or efficiently, just about getting comfy and exploring all that content I didn't have a chance to explore earlier. Trying not to follow any guides unless it is absolutely necessary.

Yeah, just leave Nameless for when you're on your 9x's, same for Lighthalzen and Thanatos.

Rachel, Brasilis, Moscovia, Kiel as soon as possible. If the server has repeatable quests, go to Comodo up up right if I remember right, there should be an NPC requiring leafs that Dryads drop that you could use till Lv67 if I remember right.

Don't feel pressured to get exp for the guild. Just play. Once we get the guild with a higher capacity, the rate will go back to 1%. No worries.

Good HP and insane MVP killer with the VIT/LUK build, killing Valkyries in 15 seconds all day np. Mental Strength Monks are insane tanks, but won't do much more besides soaking damage.

RO is a mediocre gook clicker that had vastly superior alternatives that existed before the game was released. It grew increasingly outdated over time and 3rd jobs was an effort to stay relevant. If anything killed it, it was it's own mediocrity and WoW.

Also, fuck you. I don't want a high rate server, you. I'm not trying to be a fucking ssj super novice. I just want to play as the new jobs and do mech stuff. As far as balance goes, the emulator devs and the server owners could try to balance the shit if they wanted too, but they are to busy with shit like "donation points", "vip" memberships, and good/evil alliances.

The thing with the 3rd jobs is that they almost always destroy all what your character was up to that point.
It's cool having a mech, but it destroys anything blacksmith related your character had, and those axe skills are useless compared to the robot.
It was fun to check them out once, but they're way too strong and kill the pre existing class orientations.

I never really got to play this game in its prime due to being to young to sub. Same thing with ff11, only got to 30 on that.

Monk seems to be a popular choice. I'm sure if you made it a VIT build it would do well. Go for it.

if there's something i wish the pre-renewal servers have is the 2nd jobs for the gunsliger and ninja class since without them it's pretty much useless to level one of those.

Monk is popular because of punches. Then they drop it when they realise that the only optimal way of playing him is with asura and to jump like a rabbit on PvP with asura while drinking grape juice at the speed of light.

I'm fine with a tax. But I'm fine with a higher tax for more active members in leveling parties.
I seem to be the guild's only wizard so I will be needed for later parties.
Its a good thing I'm used to doing the job of 2 wizards as one.

I'd like that too, gunslinger was super cool, but they're probably not balanced to the other pre renewal classes.

It's easier to tank with a knight or paladin.
I'm making an all arounder build right now and it's not very tanky but has sustain thanks to the heal. It doesn't have much tanky skills but it has an absurd one that makes you basically immortal but you move and attack veeeeery slowly and can't use skills.

Play what you want man. You can always make alternate characters. As long as you let me know I can replace your spot in the guild with an alt if you wish.

I find that using frost driver to freeze then using a thunder elemental bolt on the enemy works well.

When frozen, the target becomes water type temporarily. combining your thunder attacks (wind based) on them deals some nice damage. That's how I solo mage.

I've worded it wrong. I apologize. I should have said is that I am weary of wizards but I know what I'm doing. Like putting on a pair of old dirty worker gloves that fit perfectly. It is what I am best at.

I am that kind of wizard. I just need a decent tank who can stay alive so I can debuff monsters and kill them in time. 2-3 people in a dungeon at a time in a well synced party is bliss.
Wiz/Knight/Priest in a high level area is /comfy/. I'm used to working without bragi as I've played so many low population low rates.

High Priest is the best class in the game and the hardest to play.
If you want to multitask and do everything at the same time, HP is for you, you wont get bored by how many shit he can do. He's a wonderful beast and truly what a support class should be, he can even solo undead MvPs.

Because Root/Blade stop only lets you stop one target. If you lure more than one enemy to the Monk, he'll die. Also the Monk can Occult Impact the cockroach MvP from the New World, its the only thing I cant kill with a Soul Linker from the entire New World enemies.

I have played 7 characters at the same time to kill Beelzebub or Valk Randgris. You woulnt believe the Alt Tabbing, to the point that I got used to that and I would always make accounts for Clowns, Priests, Paladins, Soul Linkers, Champions so anyone from the guild would borrow all of them at the same time to hunt MvPs.

About best parties and shit, well. Soul Linker + HP to avoid one shot assumption + Sniper with traps are the best trio in new world I would say. You can add Professor for the SP and HW for mob control my man.

Well there's the card that that slots on weapons that does that, but they also released two hats that give you double strike lv.1 and +2 luk and the other one just double strike lv. 5, but I don't know if they were introduced pre-renewal. I'd rather leave my weapon slots free for other stuff if I could, since hats are not as relevant, and those bonuses are pretty strong for a hat

there's a better way to do the reflect shit, if the server has battlegrounds gear, you can wear the 3-piece set for 3x increased incoming damage from everything that's not humanoid, and use soul linker's eske on the MVP to increase damage to ridiculous levels.

As a Taekwon Rank player I assure you that there's nothing harder to create not to play though, HP is the hardest to play

Counter strike kick is the fucking best, make tornado your secondary for when you're surrounded. Leave only one Stance on.
When you're a Rank remember to spam Counter like a motherfucker with some Heels to Stun and some Tornados if surrounded.

Taek rank can legit farm Nameless alone, he's that bad ass, also tumbling down is an absurdly strong passive skill that should always be on. Remember to change your element according the enemy you're fighting and to use Running/Sprint tapping it twice to cancel it instantly and get a +10 STR bonus without using any weapons.

Enjoy kicking everything into oblivion user, you'll lose your ears with the sound effects of your spam-kicks that will never end unless your target is dead, no, really, the kicks never stops unless the target dies.

Assassins are pretty useless but they can be great mobbers with double fortune swords, so you can still be useful in a party if you decide to roll one.

Well look at the 2nd jobs and I'll tell you about them.

For theif, you can because a poison assassin, a crit assassin, an instagib pvp assassin or a rouge. Rouges are primarily for pvp but they can copy abilities (1 at a time) that gives them more build variety.

Swordsman are good for vit and agi tanking. Agi tanking is only for pve but it allows you to kill much faster. I don't think crusaders make good agi tanks, but a transknight has some good def and offensive options for an agi knight.

We'd all have to make a single novice that we'd only use for this event. once the events over you should delete the novice as it'll be trapped in the event zone.

Why do you think there are "world bosses" called MvPs? These guys can have a respawn of 12 hours to wait with really low rates of their drops. If you are a jew you can camp them like a true jew and be the only one on the entire fucking server with the drops of that.

Super Novice is a novelty class anyways, and instant cast (or 149dex for lower delay) is the best way to build it by far. With two Siromas and Bragi lv.10 it's pretty decent actually…

Become full jew? Yes, the merchant class in this game is one of the best there are.
Manipulate the market by yourself? Unlikely, since as an user mentioned multi-client (alt-tabbing between characters on different accounts) is not allowed. But with a good enough PVE party and help from the guild you can create your own monopoly on something, holding timers on MvPs and such, doesn't change the fact that drops are still very rare.

I say their download server is slow as shit it's going to take 40 minutes to download 333mbs.

I have a friend that still plays a low rates x3 for more than 11 years and he camps all the MvPs of his servers to the point that people gave up on trying to compete on his autism, he even skip sleeping for some MvPs.

He has so many MvP cards that it's not even funny, the best part? He doesn't even sell or use them, he just show it off like a rich kid and put it back on his pocket while everyone is throwing big numbers at him to buy his stuff.

Oh, one thing that I forgot to mention about the Merchant class. He uses skills with the power of money, I'm not joking, they also sell to NPCs the same shit than other characters and get a shitload more of gold and buy from NPCs way more cheaper too.

Thinking about making an archer, is it a decent choice? I liked the consumable arrows thing, most MMOs I played used bullshit regenerating arrows or magic missiles.

Archers are the easiest to level up, it's pretty insane how fast and easy it is compared to other classes, and both Hunters, Bards and Dancers are pretty good classes

Archer is good ranged DPS, you can make arrows and elemental arrows are a thing.

Learn how to walk over to Payon. There shouldn't be anything aggresive on the way that kills you if you take a proper route. And while it may seem like a waste of time, the game's best experienced by travelling the world and knowing your way around, people got far too spoiled by the warper NPCs and sometimes do not know how inter-connected certain maps are, or that they even exist.

Let's not do the same shit. Make sure that it is very, very clear that the second guild is ONLY around until the first guild has room and that it is strictly an overflow guild. Make sure people who are inactive for too long in the first guild get kicked until they come back to make room for actives in the second guild. We don't want the annoying fucking epeen contests that always come with secondary guild. If you are going to make it, please don't be an annoying fuck who will insist on the secondary guild becoming a permanent sekrit klub guild.

Start putting people into work slots, now that I'm not dealing with medical issues I can start putting in work for the guild and my knight.

Clear out the merchant-alts and shit, lets try to keep the guild Mains only until we can pad out some room.
