- Tween/Little Brother audience appeal. The audience of these youtubers are often made up of young boys and girls. Usually gravitate to the simpler graphic style of indie trash.

- Audience interaction. Rename a party of characters? They rename them after the people watching their show, or running gags. This isn't essential though.

- Money. If people aren't watching it- they'll stop. If a company is paying them on the sly to shill it, you'll see lots of videos about it and praise.

So, based on the above theory on what works for a youtuber- what will stop them?

- Little spectacle. Not everything needs to be like Platinum Games. A more quiet, slower, somber tone might make the game look "boring"- but those who crave the strategy or even a genuinely mature or serious story will stick with it. Guess what sort of people aren't in a youtuber's audience?

- High Spec. Sure these youtubers have great rigs (actually pre-built trash), but I'd bet they can't run capture software, recording software, and a Crysis high-end tier graphics. This is just IMO.

- Their audience can not complete the game. Do you think a tween could beat the original Mario Bros? Or a Persona game? Or that Red-something FPS where you can be killed by something you didn't even see? They might still buy the game, and watch the ending on youtube though. And then bitch it's "too hard" in the reviews and comments…

- Ignore and don't appeal in any way to that audience.
Lets say you're making an RPG. Bit tricky, often NEED to use debuffs and buffs to beat tougher enemies. And bosses aren't just a slug fest to see if you can out-heal him before he kills you- it's a puzzle that needs to be observed and worked out. Then the aesthetics is something like a seasonal-fan service anime. Tits abound. You've got a pretty good target audience in mind.
Target Audiences are your goal. Most AAA aim for "The bottom half". Casuals who buy whats popular, with lower skill than the top half. They don't care about age or gender (until they need to signal virtue) they want to deceive as many people thinking it's a game designed just for them- when really it's designed to be a bit of everything and appeal to everyone- right until they actually play it and realize it's trash.
AAA wants everyone to play. You don't. Niche means more in-depth feedback, a more connected target audience that will talk about your work ("Hey, someone finally made a new challenging RPG with waifus, check it out"), and less competition.

So- now you've gotten the eye of a youtuber, and his fans start making requests. "Make it easier" "less problematic" "add memes". So, here's what you do. You make an update on your website or youtube channel or however your advertising your game, you address those concerns and ideas, and you say:

You don't need to be rude, just explain your vision and how that's not going to change. If people keep asking- ignore it. Once they realize you are an immovable object, and their vision of your game won't be realized- they'll leave.
Metal music got rid of posers by not making them feel welcome. The BDSM community had to deal with SJWs, and they got the boot.
Stand your ground. You are selling apples. Don't let the orange fans tell you what to do. Only listen to people that sound like your target audience- and even then only when they've given you the time to create in-depth feedback ("You're great" and "You suck" are both as useless as each other).

A lot of anons called him out in the thread, he made on salty post, and hasn't been seen since. He's a branded traitor for bending to the social justice crowd and doing an interview with Kotaku shortly after.
Like said, Mark apologized for the favoritism and even took down the YandereSim banner. Unless YandereDev does a hard U-turn, he's a fucking traitor here. It's a reputation he's earned.

I'm sad for a few different reasons. First of all, I was one of the guys that tried to defend YandereDev on occasion. Second, I'm sad for YandereDev because I thought he had left behind his autistic years and I thought he really could have developed\been developing in an actual adult, with some troubles (like everybody) but otherwise a functioning, responsible adult. Third, I'm sad because I'm an amateur game developer myself and like every other amateur I hope some day I'm gonna make a game that is going to be recognized as good - maybe not a masterpiece, but something people are going to play and remember fondly. And I'm sad because I fear that even if I do manage to make such a thing I could develop in a gigantic, assblasted faggot that had five minutes of fame once and only lives to revive that kinda thing - just like you, YandereDev. You got some attention and from that point onward you just struggled as hard as you could to hold on that attention. I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with wanting to be recognized - that's why it never troubled me much before - but there is a difference between wanting some attention, which is something every human needs, and being a full blown attention-whore worthy of being a lolcow.

In hindsight, the signals were all there. The fact that you wanted to develop a game "for imageboards" was a redflag. It sounds like a nice enough thing, right? "I'm making this shit for you!". The truth was that you wanted to make a game for whoever would be ready to suck your dick. At first this was 4chan, then it became Holla Forums, and in the end it's going to be Reddit. Which is pretty much end of the line, if even reddit leaves you I'm not quite sure what you're going to do - maybe you're just gonna keep living as the broken, sad man you are, thinking "why's nobody sucking my dick anymore???".

Because, frankly speaking, nobody ever asked for you, YanDev. I repeat - in hindsight, this is becoming quite obvious. You did it pretty subtly, but overall one could feel every time you spoke about something you had that feel of "Yeah i'm doing you a favor, faggots" which is yet another way of inflating your ego.

Simply put, if you really were making a game "for imageboards", you simply could not be leaving for reddit, because reddit is not an imageboard, nor it is in any way similar to it.

While it's true that there are a lot of contrarians here, and a lot of trolls as well, I'd say that most people are somewhat intelligent (I suppose that does not include me since I was trying to defend you, but oh well) which is not the same thing I can say about reddit. The reason you feel like people on reddit are nicer than people on imageboard is that Reddit, in every way, shape, or form, is an artificial community. I do in fact visit Reddit quite a bit (I'm forced to and I hate every single second of it) so I can tell you that most people are only polite because of two things: upvotes and rules.

I rarely if ever post during my short, excruciating visits to Reddit. Not only is the site developed like shit (Holla Forums may not be working 50% of the time but at least it's readable when it does in fact work, Reddit is a clustefuck). Why don't I post ever? Surely, as an user, I have very STRONG OPINIONS ON THINGS I DON'T LIKE! The reason is that a) If I actually voiced my opinions I would get banned (and it's not worth the effort) b) If I didn't get banned for some magical stroke of luck, people would just downvote me to hell and they'd start berating me (insulting and flaming are completely ok on Reddit as long as the guy you're insulting has a negative counter, which is frightening on a sociological level, really).

So, to explain myself better, it's not that people are nicer on reddit, but that only the nice people (mostly fags) can, or are willing, to post. This is not an opinion, Reddit was simply developed for that purpose: strengthen liked opinions while making unliked ones hard to come by, either through downvotes or shadowbanning (shadowbanning used on anything other than bots is one of the most disgusting things imaginable).
