Cute is really all she has, which still pisses me off because she doesn't seem like the type to care about such things.

You know how alot of characters can start out gruff and unlikable but once you peel away a couple of layers they become really decent, if not lovable? Lightning stays gruff, and bitchy for the vast majority of the game, and when they do finally peel back the layers she is the same underneath. That isn't to say she doesn't have some moments of warmth or empathy, but they always come across akwardly since you have mostly grown to hate her throughout the game.

Specifically, she is bitchy because a god-like beging forced her sister, Serah, into a sort of contract where she must do something and turn into a crystal or not and turn into a monster. When her sister confessed this Lightning didn't believe her, and then Serah ran off crying. Lightning really regretted this, and became a mega bitch for the majority of the game. Yes, she's bitchy because she was boitchy to her sister before she got turned into a Christmas tree ornament.

She also hates Snow, one of the only likeable characters, because he "is arrogant and acts like he's everyone's friend." Which I can tell you that for Snow that actually translates to "he's very confident and everybody likes him."

She only gets better at the end of the game (AKA the end of the tutorial). And by better I mean barely tolerable.

I did mention Donte in my spoiler, but at the time DMC4 released people were pissed at Johnny Yong Dante stealing the spotlight.

Also worth remembering that, even in the anime, that one XY gym leader joined Ash and co for maybe 6-7 episodes (I think), and she and her Lucario (which she could barely control when mega evolved) pretty much stole the spotlight from Ash during that time.

Also remembered that Nate had a Lucario in the animated trailer for Pokemon B2W2, though I expect that might have been more to hint at how they'd added a handful of non Unova Pokemon to be obtainable during the main game (the way Pokemon Platinum added some more out of region/post game Pokemon to the main region, like Houndour).

To be entirely honest, I probably would have liked Lightning more if she had at least been physically attractive. Trust me, PlayArts Kai are consistently awful figures. Skin that looks like stone, joints that don't make sense or are missing articulation, and they cost way, way too much money. There's a reason why all of the promo shots are in the dark, they look disgusting in person.
