Games with awful AI partners

Post games where the AI either makes playing a chore. Pic related, my brother and I always played co op because of how braindead Sheva was.

I ended up hunting the civilians

How about you make a thread about good AI partner since every game I played have shit AI, which is a given since nobody can code skynet level of intelligence yet

One of the medabots games comes to mind. AI plays to how you want them to. Not the other way around.

...

having the ai partner not be targeted at all and phasing through enemies is just as bad as ai partners randomly killing themselves because they walk into enemies fire.

is not a solution either

To be honest it could have been a good split screen game. If the enemy AI wasn't a total mess and actually managed to make the game difficult it could have been fun.

I recently played Risen 2, and for the most part the partner AI was okay. The game solved the problem of partners getting killed too easily or being too invincible half decently; partners took damage normally and could get dropped, but would always get up just fine once the fight was over. So they weren't indestructible meat shields, but also didn't make you pay for their retardation either.

Really, the only problem was that occasionally their pathfinding got stuck, and they couldn't run as fast as you for absolutely no apparent reason. So you might run while exploring, get in a fight, and suddenly realize your backup is nowhere in sight. That's not very cool.

Republic Commando was fairly good. Then again, the whole game was essentially built around managing your squad.

Gotcha force has examples of both depending on which partner you pick, The guy who uses Issac and Tetsuya tend to get reckt and be useless in general while everyone else does all right. Orochi, Shu, and the red haired one whose name escapes me at the moment can clear maps more or less by themselves and Mana actually makes an active attempt at playing support.

JUST GIVE SHEVA AN SMG AND A RIFLE, KEEP HER ON COVER FOR CLOSE QUARTERS AND ON ATTACK FOR RANGED AND BOSSES

It's not that hard nigga.

...

...

why

I agree. People praised the AI of that skank, yet she didn't do shit and was basically in Godmode.

Though to be fair the AI could be very smart if you trained it. For instance ignoring your pawn when he grapples and using the same class as him so he copies you.

This, every time. Holy shit, NEVER escort ANYBODY if you play this game, fuck all of them

Pawns don't get in the way unless you train them like shit. Their flavor commentary can get annoying though, I'll give you that

There are people who actually believe this. While it's true that some inclinations are far better than others all that really happens is the pawns become less retarded.

So just like RE5 then.

GET OUT OF THE DOOR LYDIA

...

The AI could pick up some rather interesting behaviors, I unintentionally taught my support mage to jump cancel her cast in order to avoid taking hits. It was pretty cool to see her do it during the fight with Daimon, jumping away at the last second in order to avoid a swipe.

Wait? This makes them less likely to grab enemies and go all "Oi vei Arisen come kick this bandits guts!" ?

Only problem i've had with my fighter pawn with mc being strider is that shit as 9/10 times it's useless as she does it to shitty wolves or weak bandits that die in few hits anyway.

I taught my pawns to jump over traps. Strider pawns become ungodly killing machines if trained well and with the right inclinations and bestiary entries.

Now if you want a game with stupendously bad AI: Secret of Mana. I love the game. It's amazing. But the fucking AI is so bad. It gets itself killed all the time, doesn't cast spell, does no dmg and forces you to leash to them when they get stuck, which happens all the fucking time. Did I mention how they get themselves killed all the fucking time?

You can make them shut up, you know.

Love this game, but whoever decided that

had way too much fucking vodka during development.

If I have to have an AI partner I'd rather have an invincible AI partner through the whole game then one I have to babysit 24/7.

This game was designed for lonely playthrough though. But i agree with you. Its especially annoying in Call of Chernobyl mod for pripyat, where you rely on your teammates and can get easily stuck in tight hallways.

My F5 button still has flashbacks.

You don' know what shit AI partners are until you played this on hard.

Ironically pic related is one of the best examples of partner IA's. Although you can argue that good Ai isn't just good programming, but also a good level design. The way RE4 designed is why I never had any trouble with Ashley's path finding, while the game did not resort any cheap tricks like teleporting your AI partner while you ain't looking.

My point is, they stop leading the way. Instead of constantly checking on the map I could follow them but every time they face an enemy they stop going towards the place no matter how many times I spam the Go! command

The way AI followers got stuck, and therefore got you stuck on the their invisible leash, was the only thing that really bothered me.

Really, it's just the fact that you can't possibly push NPCs in the least that's the biggest problem. If they'd just move when you bumped into them, all the rest would be 99% better. I got boxed into that little hallway in Rostok so many times.

Smaller collision boxes would have helped too, come to think of it. NPCS maintained a relatively large bubble of personal space compared to their actual size.

To this day, it's the only good escort mission gameplay any game has ever had. She ducks in the line of fire, she doesn't bolt ahead like a retard or run too far away either, and she stays hidden in you tell her to hide.

Really, the only possible improvement would be giving Ashley and an emergency gun. I get she wasn't trained with firearms at all, and her shooting stupidly could make Leon's job harder. But game difficulty balance aside, a small handgun she only uses when being carted off over the shoulder style would make sense, anybody can aim right at that range.

Not only is she the worst character of the whole franchise it was at times just painful to babysit her especially if you also had 3-4 generic npc companions with you.

Ashley is also better than Sheva because Ashley doesn't waste all your ammo.

AI partners are deliberately dumbed down so as to not take the thunder from the player or to force you into going multiplayer.

Nah, it was just as shit like in every single video game.

This bitch made me hate Half Life 2 more than I already do.

Pshhh, shit AI tbh fam.

reminder that TLOU had actually genuinely innovative AI, but the playtesters couldn't handle it and they toned it down for release

Nigga that means go on the offensive towards the enemy

My frustration with it care little about what it means. I just want to shout at my pawns

Why not just walk past the worthless goblins and continue to the destination

I try to but they are AI, they'll initially aggro until I spam the Come command enough times

It's as good at playing as you are using the macro's to make them use the correct shit or actually go full skill and make them do sick combo's on reaction to them using certain artes on start up and having an optimal follow up on macro to make them use it.

You play 4 player or you're escorting 3 retards

I get them not taking the lead or attacking too effectively under that logic, but what most of this thread is complaining about wouldn't make them steal the spotlight at all if fixed.

How would more competent AI partners make you go multiplayer? If anything it's the opposite, for example, the only reason I'd even consider playing RE5 with another person would be to avoid how retarded the AI is. If it was competent I'd be much happier playing alone.
