It looks like they changed graphics more in the new DLC, but I haven't had the time to play it yet can't say it for sure. It looks like previous mods are incompatible with it

Illusionist/Thief is fun, backstabbing using Mislead is the cheesiest shit. Using Mislead and the Black Blade of Disaster together to backstab is just orgasm-inducing.

With siege of dragonspear however it looks like dogshit now, and they somehow made the UI actually worse.

So I'd stick with just the original.

Even the newer GOG versions should come with the original, non-enhanced games.

Broken as fuck combo. That's why is one of the best characters in that game: not only is he fun to have around but he's also extremely useful.

Other stupidly overpowered shit are Ranger/Clerics, Wild Mages and Fighter/Mage/Cleric with the xp cap off.

Monk is viable?
Last time I tried to play Monk, I whiffed every hit and ended up being carried by everyone else.

Monk is pretty bad. Viable, but nothing impressive. Especially true if you roll as a Monk in BG1 where you'll basically be Kobold fodder for the entire game.

Back in my day, a Level 1 Monk was basically useless. A Level 18 Monk was immune to burst attacks and projectiles, had a natural armour class better than full plate, and could kill any human-sized enemy in a single round of punches.

You want general tips or more indepth stuff? Don't want to waste my time typing a wall of text if all you want is some pointers.

I'm playing the EE for the first time and it isn't so bad. The redone cutscenes suck and I'm not taking the new characters anyway. The UI isn't awful, but its taking some serious getting used to after 16 years of the original.

The positives are the load times and not having to deal with mod crashes.

If anybody is going to buy it, make sure to get it on sale. For honour.

Specialize your characters. If this is your first playthrough and i'm not trying to make you feel bad, at least you're finally playing it you're going to want a pretty vanilla party that the vets would call "boring"

Make sure you have a thief for lockpicking because that's where you'll find some of the best loot, and it's free and easy XP. Make sure you've got at least one badass warrior who is functionally retarded in all aspects aside from hitting people really fucking hard and shrugging off/dodging damage. Make sure you've got at least one wizard I like to have two because when they level up a bit they're the guys who are going to end the fucking world with their insanely high damage spells. Shit, even at lower levels magic missile etc are basically guaranteed damage and are only limited by casts per day. If you aren't taking a Cleric specced for healing wounds and wearing huge-ass armour you're retarded. Make sure at lower levels to heal almost all damage ASAP; in D&D rules like these you can get exploded by one good crit and are especially weak to it at low levels. I like to have at least one archer in my party (and often spec my thief into it) because any time you can add damage to the battle and not really have to worry about taking any it's a no-brainer

i guess tl;dr make sure you're approaching each battle as a team and focus fire. when you're at higher levels and have a larger HP pool to dick around with/have spellcasters who can turn single enemies into goo on their one you can afford to split targets, but at the start you need to burn down your foes ASAP. remember that it's not supposed to be a fair fight and if it is you're doing it wrong this is sound advice for any combat ever; debuff them, haste your guys, use dirty tricks.

I always go Sorcerer.

There are no NPC party members who are sorcerers, and it's a lot more fun than a wizard. At any given time a Wizard has immediate access to fewer spells than a Sorcerer and FAR fewer casts of them. The game is far more fun when you can cast anything you need on the fly rather than planning every single spellcast in advance, not to mention not having to redo your spellbooks after level drains.

I rest once I'm exhausted. Spamming rest is pretty cheap, but there's nothing really stopping you from doing it.

You shouldn't pay for the EE versions. Since they patched to v2.0 everything became much less stable, the interface is fucking awful compared to pre-v2, and a lot of mods won't work. Just get the v1.3 from a torrent and you are good to go.

As for the movies there is a mod to get the originals back called BGEEClassicMovies. Right now the website that was hosting it went down but hopefully it will come back.

Aside from the changed movies, and the bullshit they added in after Dragonspear came out, the EE version is much better than modding the original. Like you said loading times are insanely fast (literally a tiny fraction of a second, I've never seen anything like it) and it is rock solid stable. It just sucks that they had to keep patching it into ruination. It wouldn't surprise me at all if they had a v2.0 patch coming to ruin IWD also.

Get the Holy Avanger Paladin Kit.
It comes with a few fixes for the late game to boot and some spiffy new items.
