Games you've bought a system for

Has user ever bought a new console or handheld, or done a major upgrade on a PC, just to play one game in particular?

What games have sold you systems and was it worth it in the end?

Pic unrelated.

No, I'm not retarded.

Call of Duty 9

I bought a 3DS to play Animal Crossing and MH4U, but now I'm selling it and all the games so I can buy a fucking phone.
I don't really care about anything other than my PC. It's not worth owning a console just so I can play 1 or 2 games.

I bought it in September of last year and I haven't used it for more than 10 hours in total.

Dead rising

Worth it

Dreamcast: MVC2
Ps3: heavy rain (not kidding)
Nes: Friday the 13th/double dragon 2
Turbo graphix 16: neutopia
Gamecube: eternal darkness
3ds: bravely default
DS: Phoenix wright series
Computer: porn

One single game? No, I buy a PlayStation after a few years when there are enough JRPGs on it.

But no one game is good enough to spend 300+ euro on.

I have a feeling that's how 99% of nintendo sales begin.

mario 64
no other games on the system were as good.
blew its load with the first game

I bought a 360 for 80 bucks just so it can be a dedicated Virtual On box

I did almost the exact same thing a goddamn month after the 3DS launched. "Oh, I'll get this new console now so I can enjoy all the new games that will come out for it instead of being a generation behind again." Titles were shit for the first year and not super great after. Ambassador program was fucking stupid, just a bunch of VC titles. Sold the 3DS and its games as well as the flash cart I had for an Android phone.

...

I built a new computer to play Hatred. It's pretty good but that's not the sole reason I put so much money into it. The game's a graphically intensive tech demo and I figured that if I could build a computer that runs it on its recommended specs: I could run lots of games that will be coming out in the coming generation.

Not solely for the title, but the limited edition kinda forced my hand earlier than I might have preferred.

I always knew that vocaloid is jewish.

PS3 tomorrow purely for JJBA ASB

A smartphone just so I could have handheld Pinball Arcade.

The following were titles that I wanted enough to get the hardware for, but other games were on the horizon too.
Tribes: Ascend
Bayonetta 2
Sonic Adventure 2 Battle

Technically the technology itself is Anglo-Germanic.

Thinking about buying a ps4 for Nier Automata

I bought a PS4 for Fallout 4, since it has mods now.

6 games or never in the gen
That's the rule.
I have upgraded my computer for HAMMER though.

MGS4 for my PS3 although there were a few other games I wanted for it and I didn't buy it on release either. Played plenty of games on my PS3 since so I think it was worthwhile.

The only other system is the Wii for Skyward Sword. Turned out to be the only Zelda game I haven't completed.

Wii was okay for Mario Party, Kart and a few others but it's my least played system out of everything I own.

what? youre jewish

I bought a Playstation to play Bushido Blade.

I bought q ps3 for persona 5 last year

Fair few.

SNES - Mega Man X.
PS4 - Nights of Azure.
PSP - Battlefront 2.
Dreamcast - Sonic Adventure.
Wii - Metroid Prime 3
Gamecube - Metroid Prime.
Xbox 360 - Halo 3.

PS VITA for Dragon's Crown. Now I have 30 games for the thing. Worth it.

Same here, but for Soul Sacrifice.

Back when playstation first came out my parents couldn't fit it in their budget. I loved Final Fantasy "III" to death so when VII was announced I saved up and bought the game on my own just to have it in my hands. Didn't get an actual playstation until months later.

...

Genesis - Sonic 2
PS1 - Crash Bandicoot
PS2 - Jak & Daxter
PSP - Daxter
PS3 - Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction
Wii U - Super Mario 3D World
PS4 - Ratchet & Clank

Wii U and PS4 weren't worth it yet. Wii U has games for it but all the ones that are good are absurdly expensive outside of the five or six I own. Hopefully I can get them cheaper after. PS4 is starting to get games for it now, I've been playing Tearaway: Unfolded a lot lately, but I still only have like four or five games that are actually any fun at all on it.

I got a new GPU because of Farcry but it isn't like I only played Farcry.
My next GPU will be mostly due to AMRA 3 because that is what beats my system the hardest. I know it's generally CPU limited but in my case it isn't

Hyrule Warrior for a WiiU

The Xbox itself had a tremendous library that very few people know about.

XBOX360 - Bayonetta

It was worth it in the end. Halo, Forza, Armored Core, Vanquish.

I bought a Dreamcast for PSO, and a NGC for PSO Ep I & II. Both systems had a ton of great games I really wanted to play as well, so it was hardly a wasted purchase. I got a PSP pretty much just for Phantasy Star Portable 2/Infinity, too, and it ended up being one of the best console purchases I've ever made.

I ALMOST bought a PS3 just for Valkyria Chronicles, but I waited, and got by with VC II on PSP until the PC release.

I'm kind of wanting to get a WiiU just for Bayonetta 2, but I don't want to make any purchases until I know what the fuck is going on with the NX and PS4k. I already know enough about what's going on with the Xbone Scorpio, so I've crossed that off my list.

I was considering handheld for monster hunter and stuff, but I cant play it anywhere besides hume and here I can play it from pc.

Bayonets 2

PS2 for Shadow of the Colossus. Was worth it.

PC upgrade for Oblivion. Broke my heart.

Fucking piece of shit, at least infamous was okay I guess.

InFamous 2 makes the first one look like shit. Play InFamous 2.

I did, I liked the first more, I thought the aesthetics were better and the game felt less repetitive and less grindy.

Infamous was a dog shit gears of war ripoff pretending to be a super hero game.

What?

I recall needing to grind to get all the powers in InFamous 1, even after getting 100%. Didn't need to in 2. They also made the karma matter a lot more, while it makes practically no difference at all in the first one. Just generally a much more fleshed out game.

I'd say Second Son is better than the original as well, except it's so short. If First Light was just part of the game instead of standalone DLC it really would have helped. Powers are cool though.

Unfortunately yes.

Bought a fancy new PC with a GTX 580 for skyrim in 2011 when it first came out.

I was 16. Don't make fun of me.

It had a cover system and the powers were literally grenades, rocket launcher, shotgun, sniper rifle and so on. It was a shitty third person shooter just like gays of war, take away gliding and rail grinding and it's the same game with jumping.

So the same weapons that are in every shooter ever made?

If the game didn't emphasize climbing and exploring so much you'd have a point. The same way you could argue Ratchet & Clank is a doomclone if you ignore the platforming. You're ignoring like half the game.

DS and 3DS for pokemon
xbox for halo/crimson skies
Xbone for destiny
ps3 for uncharted trilogy

I found a lot more along the way for each of them but these games all got me interested

Yes exactly. I didn't want a shooter I wanted a super hero game which is what I thought I bought.

Yeah that is why every mission totally wasn't "go here kill dudes".

A lot of the game was looking for Blast Shards and other Macguffins. At the beginning combat is more simple but as things progress you're more encouraged to use the environment and your climbing abilities to your advantage.

Yeah because when I think "super hero" I imagine picking up trash off of rooftops.

Nigger don't talk to me like I've never played the game. The mobility powers were a small help later in the game but it was still completely bogged down by far and away the most unimaginative power choices they could have possibly made. You control electricity for fucks sake and you are using a typical shooter load out. Where is my ability to hijack peoples nervous systems with precision shocks? Where is my ability to manipulate electro-magnetic fields and fly around on a trash can lid? The missed opportunity is the worst and most infuriating part of this game. They had a chance to make something cool but instead said "nah fuck that, third person shooter".

I purchased a Wii for Zelda Twilight Princess
and a GameCube for Metroid

Well people liked Arkham City.

Superhero games largely get by on their atmosphere, license, and movement. The combat is rarely that special. Most are mediocre beat em ups. This is a mediocre shooter. But it has a fun environment to climb around in and explore.

Flying on a trash can lid like Static would have been a good idea though. Clearly the game was largely built around the idea of parkour or some shit with the other stuff coming later.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was Sony meddling that is responsible for it being that way considering how they improved the powers in the sequels.
Prototype is still better

PS3 for Demon's Souls, among other things
PS4 for Bloodborne, among other things which aren't out or have been delayed
Wii U for The Wonderful 101
I remember getting a Gameboy Color for Mario Golf and a DS for Metroid Prime Hunters back in the day too

i'll buy a ps4 for AceCombat7

You'll buy your plane gas in infinity and you'll like it.

I built my first PC to specifically play Battlefield 2 max settings. Then when Bad Company 2 came out and my computer was no longer able to handle it, and I was too poor to buy a PC or even upgrade it anymore, I bought a PS3 just to play Bad Company 2. I upgraded to a PS4 last year because I knew the next Battlefield game that came out wasn't going to be available on the last gen systems, so I upgraded. Battlefield games are the only games I care about. I play GTA 5 also, but I don't actually play it, I just drive around and do whatever I want, I hate doing missions.

SNES: Super Mario World
Gamecube: Super Mario Sunshine
3DS: Pokémon and SSB
Planning on building a Pentium III PC for FreeDOS and 98, largely for Thief, Quake, Daggerfall, and System Shock.
Also got a Gameboy Color and a DS Lite for flash carts.

never bought fuel tanks

I originally got a Wii for Twilight Princess. It's not a bad game but at the risk of being mocked for liking the wrong games it was Smash Bros and the Metroid Prime Trilogy that really made it worth the investment.

I've contemplated upgrading my PC for a while to play certain newer games but that's all hypothetical right now.

...

I bought a Wii to play…Smash Bros Brawl.

I don't regret a lot of things, but this is one of them (the other is going to a Brawl midnight release*).

*The Smash community deserves all the hate the fgc and the rest of the world give it, and this is from someone who also hates the fgc.

Got a ps3 fpr mgs4. Never regreted it, ended up buying many more ps3 games. Stuff like Uncharted and Drakengard 3.

I beg to differ. N64 had a lot of good games like Star Fox 64, both Zelda titles for it, all of Rareware's games and those great ports of FPS games like Quake and Duke Nukem.

I got my PS3 for Little Big Planet. Don't regret it because of the Blu-Ray player.

I got a PS4 as a gift and got bloodbourne for it.

Then I got a PS3 for Demon's Souls and MGS4 because they are cheap and PS4 is not backwards compatible.

Was planning to buy a Ps4 for weeb games and the like, was able to borrow one from my older bro instead.
Feels good to only have to buy the games.

Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 1&2

Because the loadtimes and sometimes framerate on loadiine and to find a 30mb/s sd card is pretty hard, there's also a few compatibility issue depending on NSTC dumps and PAL dumps too

Literally the only fucking game I bought the system for.

First time I ever bought a system for a game was the SNES in the spring of 1992 for Final Fantasy 2 (4j). It was the sole game I had for the system other than SMW, which was packed with it and I didn't give a shit about. Lots of nostalgia there. FF4 remains my favorite of the series to this day.

I bought my first PC in the fall of 1996 for Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall. A PC Gamer review, combined with my friend at Gamestop telling me how large the world was made me, an RPG fag, waste 2,400 on a shitty P-133 with 32MB of Ram, all to play Daggerfall. It was worth it, though….since 5 months later I was playing Diablo online.

I bought a PS1 in the summer of 1996 in anticipation of FF7. Was greatly disappointed with it though. Oddly enough, I bought Wild Arms before FF7 came out and ended up liking it more.

I bought a PS2 for Shadow Hearts, since I was a huge fan of Koudelka on the PS1. That ended up being a huge RPG machine, so that was a fairly good choice IMO.

I recently bought a PS4 for Star Ocean 5. Not disappointed there either.

but user, it's dead.
Also what kind of toaster do you have that can't run it even at low settings?

Holy shit gas yourself you fucking idiot, there are a lot of games on the 3DS.

That's your fault for not getting any games for it. Both of you faggots need to learn how to homebrew too.

Shit taste user.

Consoles are more expensive than PCs you retard.

The fuck is wrong with you
I may regret my console purchase, but you are wrong

I got a Wii U for Super Mario Maker. Rather a poor decision in hindsight.

You forgot how much more expensive everything is on console, and the fact that it costs $50-60 a year to play online or "keep" the "free" game that they "give" you for paying.
In the long term you will end up spending so much more on a console than a $500 build equivalent that is much more powerful than it. Not to mention capable of 60 fps and native 1080 all the time compared to the Boner's 900p 30fps garbage.

I bought a PS2 just for Godzilla: Save the Earth. I have no regrets.

There were other great games, certainly, but that user said none were AS good as SM64, which I actually agree with.

Ocarina was shit, don't let nostalgia blind you.
If I wanted to play an inferior console port of a n FPS then I would get a Dreamcast since it lets you play Quake with a m/kb. The N64's controller was awful.

I bought a $400 Bloodborne security dongle.

Not a single regret.
Game was great, hype was great, console turned out great, and i bought it and the game with 8 other irl friends.

It never happened again with any other console or game, it was special, and we went apeshit over it for literal months because of pvp, learning how to breed IVs/ masuda'ing shinies (i got a shiny banette that way) and also the whole diance egg scam.
Best new gen pokemon game to date, and i bet sun/moon won't be able to break it's streak.

This has to be bait.

nah

I bought a PS4 specifically for Fallout 4. I haven't even taken the plastic off of the Uncharted Collection that it came with.

I don't know why. I played 3 and NV on PS3, and if any other anons did this, I'm sure you know all of the frame rate problems.

Soul Sacrifice Delta, but I made sure there are enough other games I'm interested in.

Yeah, and I own X. Bought the system for Pokemon like the last two. That's not why I called it bait, X&Y are dogshit and everyone here knows it.

Also,
Get the fuck out Reddit.

Jeez man

it's my phone's camera that gave it that name
what is wrong with pokemon btw?
It's the last good pokemon game that came out imo

I smell a girl.

Highly approve

What are you, some kind of faggot?

Its a long term investment. ;_;

n-no funny looking eggplant, i'm a boy

It's not great. Played it through once and then traded it in for TLOU Remastered, which is also not great, but slightly better.

We both know you wouldn't know what that smells like

This was me with Pokemon Diamond.
I already had a DS, but when I finally caved and Bought a pokemon game for the first time the next 6 months of my life were binging on 9 years worth of pokemon lore.

No it wasn't, Super Mystery Dungeon takes that slot. In the main series it's BW2. X&Y were too linear, gave you too much OP shit making the game too easy, was so easy you could be Diantha with a Lucario no buffs, was laggy, and had the shitty megas that never should have been introduced.
Sure is Summer in this thread.

At least i know how to not post twice.
Also have you played X&Y or did you hear the drama and you're going off of that?

cancer

I've done this only once, and it was when I got a PS1 to play Final Fantasy 7. I was a Nintendo fanboy at the time, but I also loved Square's games, so I made the jump along with Square. I was fully expecting it to be my FF7 machine, and it ended up getting way more play time than my N64, which just sort of sat there due to the lack of good games.

I found a mistake in the first post and deleted it before reposting the remains of the other one.
Also pic related is you.
Go back to where ever the fuck you came from. Every time there's a Pokemon thread, everyone ends up shitting on both XY and ORAS. The 6th gen games are casual baby garbage, even for Pokemon's standards. 2nd pic is my copy of the game and time stamp, get bent.

They just learned their target audience, i see nothing bad with that.
Maybe you should play more mature games if you look for a challenge.

This is the real bait right here.

Shouldn't you europoors be getting ready for bed?

...

Not for another 8 hours probably

Good comeback.

I could even get behind YMD because it would either be slowest to fastest, or fastest to slowest.
Americans are just a special kind of retards.

Common core really did a number on you niggers huh

Well considering the image wasn't "here's a picture of me wide awake!" I'm guessing the part you took issue with was him calling you a europoor. unless you're just a retard engaging in an argumentum ad populum, I was going with the more charitable assumption

Kill yourself. "Maturity" and "Challenge" are mutually exclusive things. Most "mature" games these days are garbage.

There is absolutely no reason for making the game worse when it was already piss easy. Get some standards nintoddler.

*aren't mutually

D/M/Y and Y/M/D make the most sense because you're going from the smallest to the largest measurement and vice versa, while the M/D/Y format goes from the middle to smallest and back to largest, which is nonsense. It's the same with writing the time where you go from hours to minutes to seconds. Most countries in the world use the former 2 because they make sense, but Americans are too retarded for logic.

I took it from the desktop time, what did you expect? Now quit changing the subject.

That's great if you're some ESL europoor. Maybe it even makes sense in your native tongue. In English, however, dates are usually recited as, say, "July 4th, 2016." It's written in the same order it's spoken aloud.

In America maybe. I'm English and I say "4th of July". In fact now that I think about it, don't Americans usually refer to Independence day as the 4th of July?

...

What an epic burn

No, you're just grasping at straws.
You have no argument left, you're just bitching about how Burgers write the date. It really only depends on how people want to word it and 4th of July rolls of the tounge better sometimes.

lol says the shitskin who ran out of smug anime girls

I meant when referring to dates in general, not the Fourth specifically. I should have picked a more generic date I suppose.

Exactly, I'm saying your way of writing is wrong and you have no argument.

It'll be at least 3 more posts before that happens pal.

I know, but I'm saying that the way you say something doesn't necessarily dictate how you write it. Like how you might say "It's 10 minutes past 9", but you wouldn't write it as 10:09.

You can't prove why it's wrong and you have no argument.
Definitely grasping as straws.

upgraded my pc for vanguard: saga of heroes

i wised up since

YYYY/MM/DD is best, because then you can tell which format it is without the day being more than 12. You can also have the time next to it and still have them in order: YYYY/MM/DD HH:mm:SS.ss
