How would a Madoka Magica game work?

How would a game based off this IP work? What genre would it be? Who do you think would be able to pull it off?

Also are there any good magical girl games out there in general?

Simulation and management. Recruit a bunch of magical girls with varied psychological illnesses, then send them out against varied horrors that you know will slowly erode their grasp on reality.

Basically, Darkest Dungeon.

Interesting. I was thinking something more along the lines of a character action game more based off of Dark Soul's mechanics. Not that I want it to be the exact same (even though madoka magica does share a ton of similar themes) but in scaling and multiplayer.

It is common for magical girls to fight each other after all.

Play as Jewbey and do .

An action game like NGB.

Just make it 3D porn.

One of those 3.

Probably like the Kamen Rider Ryuki game

With this controller

It would be shit. Just like anime. Go outside.

There's already a branching VN for PSP and a Musou ripoff for Vita. The VN would be cool to play if it were in English but the Musou game look like shit.

That pretty much describes the ACTUAL Madoka game on the PSP.

There's already dozens of Madoka games. Halfchan /vg/ has/had a Madoka games thread even.

There was that one MMO that they were all about and there was also Grief Syndrome which was popular.

Translation still going on. Seems the game has a shit ton of issues in PPSSPP and on a PSP, crashing at several points, etc.

How did I forget about Grief Syndrome? It's free and it's fun.

F/a/ggots begone

I want the figma of Madoka in her school uniform but it only ever came with the limited edition of that PSP game

That does look fun. Thanks my dude

Class based shooter/melee combat in Jedi Outcast vein with some RPG progression mechanic would work for sure.

what is the male version of a magical girl?

A magical guy?

Magical boy?

A shonen protagonist

Check out "Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE!"

twink faggots

Just give it to the team that made Drakenguard and let them do their thing.

I know Monster Hunter had a madoka promotion

Please no their stuff is budget as fuck. A Madoka game needs good gameplay and as good visual direction for witch fights as the anime had.

I want to suck on Mami's butthole.

No one cares

Greetings Holla Forums,

Could i take a moment of your time to talk about our lord and saviour, Madoka Kaname?

I care.

Pic related

...

Yeah their stuff is budget as fuck, but I'm hard pressed to think of any team that would be able to really capture the feel of the series.

Is it wrong to want this as a musou game?

There's like two official games already, just beg Sony if you want more Madoka games, since they created the IP

Already exist as a beat em up with multiple character endings

DMC/Bayonetta clone honestly, I can just imagine all the characters having their own style and moves, along with quirks and perks.

I think it'd work as a DMC style game, where instead of switching between styles you'd switch between girls. Streamline it a bit so the girls count as weapons and have a style locked to them, so they each have a type of attack and a specific style each. You switch in and out of them during combos.
Madoka = Trickster
Sayaka = Swordmaster
Kyoko = Royal Guard
Mami = Gunslinger
Homura = Quicksilver

Sayaka is too shit at swordplay to be a swordmaster

It already exist

Just saw that now. But I'm thinking of something a spin of musou. Sure there's hoards of enemies you have to cut through, but musou is also about completing objectives like capturing bases and defeating commanders or bosses.

You could also make this a complex musou game by having a variety other mechanics like siege weapons to destroy enemy structures and missions objectives. Maybe make it to where you can have a squad of units that follow you and you can either support them with morale to fortify bases or sacrifice them to restore health/magic at the expense of morale.

For a musou game I thought about giving characters a primary and a secondary weapon. Primary weapons are the character's default fighting style. Secondary weapons are weapons any character can use adding versatility but they have limited durability.

Oh and throw in an Empires style conquest game mode, online coop, and character creation.

You know what we need to talk about instead?

About how Homura did nothing wrong.

By the end of Rebellion she did everything wrong

She did plenty wrong. They all did. Because they are stupid children playing with shit they don't understand.

Factually incorrect.

You have a bit of credence. But you're talking about mistakes, while others talk about intent, and the actuality of Homura's actions.

Fuck you she did everything wron.g

Please don't talk about Mami in such a way.

...

Intent is immaterial. Putting that aside however, Homura has still failed at her goal. She wanted Madoka to be safe and happy but her actions will inevitably compel Madoka to take dangerous and ill advised actions to rectify Homuras actions. Madoka is unhappy because of what Homura did and will not be safe because she will risk herself endlessly as she will not allow what has Homura has done to stand. Homura was wrong and has failed before she even began.

I won't deny that she went against what Madoka had wished, but was it truly that awful? Magical Girls still get their salvation, and Madoka gets a second chance at having a normal, pain free life.

When did she do this? In Rebellion? Kyubey's whole experiment was about discovering and trapping Madoka.

And what do you mean by this? Do you mean in the anime when Sayaka doesn't believe her when she divulges the information about Kyubey?

And why do you think Madoka will be unhappy with Homura's actions? And if she is, what truly has been lost? If Madoka reascends to godhood, would she not show compassion to Homura, after seeing everything she did? Time is unimportant, and you have two characters with world bending power. It's not as if Homura's actions have caused any unneeded suffering.

Kyubey was shown already imagining ways to improve the efficiency of harvesting at the end of the series before Homura told it about Madoka. With entropy being rolled back the incubators would have had forever to work on the problem, Madoka's discovery and exploitation was inevitable. Homura may have done what she did out of selfishness but ultimately it kept Madoka safe.

EZ PZ Mode for a meguca game is a musou game, complete with customizable magical girl loli PC and a variety of weapons (and outfits, can't forget that) to pick from. The variety of enemies and bosses can make for more varied combat to include aerial, purely grounded, hybridized, and ranged tactics.

Either a magical guy as in or a Rider (if solo)/Sentai ranger (if in a group).

You can add in siege points where witch's servants or possessed innocents are swarming you and you have to fend them off, or points in the map to break down the witch's labyrinth (opening up new passages, for example).

Fighting and killing enemy magical girls can also be an option as a side-objective; after all, with the way Kyubey sets up the system, there's only so many Witches to slay before a Magical Girl turns. So why not end her misery early and reap some of that sweet, sweet life bonus?

No secondary weapons, though. A magical girl's weapon is representative of who they are and what they represent. Instead, modifying your weapon is the way to go here: changing out parts in a weapon combo ala God Hand; modifying a weapon's base and bonus stats for different play styles; and so on make it more challenging (and because having a secondary means most players will just pick whichever is efficient/good, as was the case with 8 and the Trident Halberd, Throwing Knives, and Bow).

In exchange for no secondary as well, more musous can be added, each differing based on a different battle trigger. So aside from your standard, alternate, and aerial musou, you also have one for an enemy knocked down, an enemy stunned from a combo or strong attack, an enemy grappled, etc. etc.

Oh, Madoka Magica Portable, I love it so much.

I have the skill trees of each of the girls copied, if anyone on this thread is a minmaxer, would you like to take a crack at ranking the girls on individual overall capability and coming up with optimized pair-ups and battle plans that make full use of team synergy?

Warning, this will trigger neo-/a/utists hard

Madoka is a "formation" anime, much like NGE.
You're supposed to watch it when you're relatively young and in your "formation" period.
Where in NGE Shinji takes upon the role of the viewer, in Madoka Homura is the viewer instead.
Homura makes a shit ton of mistakes and she's childish, immature and entirely driven by her emotions and pure passion over rationality and understanding what's best for everyone, she acts out of self interest.

Unlike NGE, where the final message is a very clear, one sided "grow up you fucking nerd", in Madoka the final message is more of a shades of gray situation, where there's no "right" course of action, and the show itself doesn't judge Homura as a good, nor a bad person, all things considered.
The show only paints Homura as an extremely selfish person, but selfish being a good or a bad thing is up to the viewer.

You mean a eternal existence of a lie?
Madoka can't die or live a normal life since she is still Madokami, just in a suppressed form. Homura put her in a eternal school day- how enjoyable do you think it is to relive the same day, not aging or doing anything different for eternity?
This is because Homura told QB about Madoka and what she is. QB can't just think of illogical shit like that itself.
Homura brainwashed the whole cast's memories to fit her "ideal" dream. I don't think you would need to do this shit if the other girls would go along with the plan and not want to stop the maddness of Homura's delusions.

Madoka will be unhappy because it is the absolute core of her character to sacrifice herself so that others will not. She will not cease in this and Homura has already promised to be her enemy if she continues to do so. She has ensured that conflict is inevitable between them. Had she gone a different way about it then perhaps things would be different but she did not. She has lost in her only purpose in life(Protect Madoka and make her happy) through her own actions. Pride has blinded her to this. Not even blind, I think. She simply could not accept anyone else saving Madoka, not even Madoka herself. She is wrong.

Granted I am not a follower of NGE, but where did this consensis come from? I just know the series keeps fucking repeating over and over, for like 3 times now.

So will customizing weapons alter their stats (by making them faster, slower, more weighty), or will it be just be skills like in previous musou.

Also would you be opposed to playing villains of the show?

I will be fair, we don't know what repercussions Homura's actions will have.
We know for sure what she told Sayaka at the end of the movie "After all the Specters have being eliminated, I might destroy the Universe, when that time comes, I will be your enemy". She tells this to Sayaka at the end of Revelion, how is this right? Even if she is just teasing, why? IF we get more of PMMM, Homura will be the next antagonist.
I am angry Rebellion, Homura's ending in the Anime was perfect. Now, only a shade remains, a self absorved demon who only thinks about herself.
Right now, Madoka is not her true self, but who Homura thinks she should be. Madoka, her feelings and wishes, non of this matters to Homura.

All of EOE is essentially about growing up.
Either Shinji accepts humanity as a separate bunch of individuals that all have their positive and negative traits, or he embraces his idiotic fantasy where all of humanity becomes a perfect one, something that can't happen in reality.

Madoka and NGE have the same intended age group, analyzing them as adults makes you miss the point, you're supposed to be young and feel strong emotions towards what the characters are doing, in Shinji it's that "everyone is fucking retarded except me, people are disgusting" phase (that most of Holla Forums is still in and will probably never grow out of), with Homura it's the "I love this person everyone and everything can go fuck itself all that matters is this one person i love forever i will never love anyone ever again" phase of emotional immaturity everyone goes trough their first relationships.

They're both fantasy exaggerations of real life formation periods where we make mistakes and our minds are still not yet fully formed.

It'll be altering stats like weight, attack speed, damage, recoil, things like that.

No skills, as again, most people will just pick the best/most efficient of the bunch and I can't trust omega force to balance them anyways.

I am also not opposed to villains being playable characters; part of the charm in musou games is taking that route of being a bad guy and demolishing everyone and everything.

Back during last December, Shaft showed off a teaser announcing a new Madoka movie in their traveling Madoka/Monogatari exhibit. It's early days of production still, but sometime in 2017/18, we'll get a chance to see the mess that should never have happened get fixed for good.

People might not have liked Dynasty Warriors Empires, but Empires was my favorite out of the three Dynasty Warriors versions on PS2.

Would you think a turn-based board game like conquest mode can work with this as a separate game mode from story?

And what's to say that Homura's remade universe is stuck in a groundhog day type scenario? She makes reference to the fact that the Specters (that's what they were called, right?) are still around. Madoka and the other girls remain magical girls, but her true power lies dormant. It's more realistic to believe that life for the girls would continue as normal, hunting witches, growing up (as much as you can when your body doesn't seem to age), and dealing with drama as it comes. Only without the created conflict Kyubey would introduce.
But Kyubey had. They recognized the Madoka force existed and trapped Homura's soulgem to investigate it. They had already realized something was up with Madoka, and even without Homura telling them flatly what she is, they would have realized it sooner or later. They had an eternity to do so.
True, but this is simply to keep the actors, so to speak, in their roles. Sayaka wouldn't be able to let things lie the way it is, simply because of who she is as a person. She even breaks down a bit as she realizes her memories are fading, and ends up talking to Hitomi and Kyousuke as if nothing had happened.

Homura isn't necessarily in opposition to what Madoka is. The way I saw it, Homura became the yin to Madoka's yang, the lucifer to her god. She's not evil, not necessarily by nature, but rather she held the opposite ideals because realized that there must be something to fill that power vacuum. And it felt a little meta to me as well, as if she was blatantly saying "There must always be a villain." She isn't restraining Madoka purely out of her own pride, she's doing it because she wants to have that normal life, and because she feels it necessary to do such a thing.

Oh my! I did knew that. Thanks for the info, user.

Ah I see your point.
Really does fit with Homura, since the 3rd movie did end with that conclusion- Homura being a selfish bitch that wants Madoka all to herself.

I see this get said a lot as evidence of Homura being malicious and evil, but what evidence is there that she's being honest with what she's saying? This was her response when Sayaka asked if she intended to destroy the universe, but why wait until the Specters have been eliminated? What point is there in waiting for that, or doing it only then, and not later?

Homura only said that because she realized there must be someone in opposition to Madoka, and by extension, Sayaka's ideals. She was insulting Sayaka, goading her. Calling back to the scene where Sayaka revealed she was a witch earlier in the movie.

Here's the rub though; does Homura have the authority, right, or even knowledge to say what is best for Madoka? Has she done is best for Madoka?

Madoka didn't need to be saved, she didn't want to be saved, and the way Homura went about it only hurt everyone, especially Madoka.

six stages of waifubait for each character, no matter how niche said character might be
1. hang out
2. date
3. kiss
4. third base (part 1)
5. third base (part 2)
6. third base (part 3)

Maybe. Add in two modes: one where you play as a Magical Girl, and one where you play as Kyubey.

As a MG, you survive, wipe out or ally with other MGs, strike down witches and MGs on the edge of turning, and ready everyone to fight a big boss like Walpurgisnacht. You can choose to ally with and believe Kyubey, rebel against him, or do whatever you like. But your actions have consequences, particularly destructive ones, and too many may cause negative emotions to swell…

As Kyubey, you manage the MG territories, be it instigating them to fight (and kill) each other, hustle new MGs into fighting weaker witches, or pairing up the stronger ones to take out particularly nasty witches like Homulilly or Oktavia. In Kyubey mode, you can pick which MG you wish to play as, and dying isn't an immediate game over…depending on which MG you're playing as dies. The difficulty of the mode comes from the AI, and the MGs acting of their own free will; some will do as they're told, some will lash out against the system and be a pain, and some may conspire against you. The endgoal is to stave off entropy for the universe as a whole.

7. steal panties

A god can't grow up though. Neither can Homura too, as she is also kinda a god.
After they tested what intel they got from Homura. They needed the lead to go and look into things which is what Homura provided. They took it a step further and did the experimentation on Homura, which is what set up movie 3.

As much as I like the sound of that- there is a possiblity that Homura is stronger then Madoka- due to her origonal wish of protecting Madoka. Big question is how the hell can someone protect god?

Hopefully we'll find out in the new movie.

Or actually, I hope we don't because I like it being left up to interpretation.

I guess she got what she wished. It is the same deal as with when a Magical Girl beats Walpurglis, to become the evil that treatens the world.
She has become the evil that treatens Madoka, a demon.

It's kind of a contractionary question though, so I have no idea how SHAFT will anwer it.

Never claimed Homura was evil. Just guilty of overweening pride. The entire crux of her character was based on becoming strong enough to save Madoka. She failed in this task despite all her mighty efforts. Madoka saved herself through her wish initially and then concocted her plan to foil Kyubey without the need of Homura the second time. This broke Homura and caused her to create force a scenario where she "saves" Madoka. By betraying her and stealing her power and memories. She has created a untenable situation that flies directly in the face of what Madoka wished and will inevitably lead to open conflict between the two. She is wrong because she has let her wounded feelings undermine her own purpose for living. She means well in a sense but she is wrong.

Sounds like two phases of the same game. Kyubey is the management phase of the game where you manage positions, units, and inventory. Then when an encounter happens you have to choose which magical girl to play as that turn. Choose carefully because the odds are either with or against you in that battle. If you lose all your HP, then the magical girl you play as is removed from the game.

Of course you can choose to retreat from the battle, but then if you're defending you'll lose your territory to the invader.

If other magical girls loses their battles that turn depending on their remaining HP they could be at risk as well. There's also a chance in the management phase to hire free magical girls or sometimes your own magical girls leave and sometimes betray you.

sounds like trash

grief syndrome did it pretty good. Maze's are practically set up to be ideal game levels anyway. I'd like to see a better game made out of the formula, I think it has a lot of potential to be very fun, with each girl given unique move set. Get some good level design going and a fun combo system and you can have something very fun. Maybe a stamina system tied to building up grief on your soul gem, and if you don't release it sort of like ki bursts in ni-oh, you end up leaving long term harm on your soul gem until you get a grief seed.

rebellion was a mistake, the franchise should have ended with the anime series

Who said anything about eternal? Even without the implication that the 4th movie is going to be about freeing Homura and/or Madoka, there's not a lot of reason to think that Homura is in it for the long haul or just wants a decade or two with Madoka alone to make up for the decade of suffering she's endured.

Eternity would be just as long for Homura, after all. Shit would get a bit boring, yo.

8. hold hands

Oh fuck you're right. Was getting tunnel vision on the whole suppress Madokami's powers thing. What happens when Madoka breaks out of Homura's dream world cage? What happens when 2 gods fight?
Will there be softcore porn afterwards when they realise it's just silly to fight and make up like the yin-yang symbol?

Oh there's a classic story mode with your original character. And there will probbly be an Xtreme challenge mode too.

You can probably make multiple characters to use as coop partners in classic story or as other units in conquest.

TPS like Last of Us because it's too deep for you plebs to understand

I agree

I'd fuck Mami so hard she'd lose her head.

why does everyone want anime games to fall in to that genre?

you dont speak for anyone but yourself
