There are 3 types of Fighting game player groups that Ive watched over the years.
1.The Good Crowd. These are the seasoned players and will always be a good fight as long as you arent in the casual crowd. Always a bro to people who want to learn and are generally relaxed. Will joke about the game being bad often. Despise people who dont learn from their mistakes or trash talk in an actually serious way. They make up roughly 10% of the community. Bad eggs are really bad.
2. The Im Getting Better group. These are the people who want to be in the above group, but lack the experience to do so. Will generally be always asking for tips and testing tech. This is the perfect group to hang out in, as they generally have players of all skill levels and of all characters. They make up around 30% of the community. They seem to be very silent socially if not actively playing the game, which then they become a blast to hang with.
3. The Casual crowd. This crowd only cares about how long they get to play and how many wins they can get. They generally come in 2 types, one will consider advice condescending and will refuse to adapt to better players and constantly spew trash talk, the other half are legitimate players that just dont have/take the time to be good. You know the ones who use autocombos just so they can play with friends. They make up 50+% of players. Generally you dont want to play with them as you will learn bad habits. This group is where all the noobs and people who want to get good meet and say their goodbyes.

Bengus is a legitimately great artist with a huge portfolio just for Capcom alone. It's pretty obvious this art is the result of being given a very small time frame. Capcom's other artists (Akiman, Nishimura, Ikeno and Shinkiro) probably wouldn't fare all that better or even be able to produce results in such small time.

Pick the one I find the most visually appealing. For the most part, it works; sometimes the character doesn't entirely click but I press onward and try to make it work with just the basics (Aoi in VF is probably the best example) and, luckily hasn't happened much, it just doesn't work and I end picking someone else (Valentine in Skullgirls which I swapped for Parasoul). That said, I tend to goof around with almost every character in the roster to see if I may stumble upon one that didn't catch my eye but I find fun in terms of gameplay.

What if there were a fighting game that was based around throwing your opponent in order to damage them? No. What if the game allowed you to punch and kick your opponent, but these things would not let you do actual damage. Instead, player characters would have a health bar and a stamina bar. The stamina bar would dictate how much strength your character has left; your character's movement is strong and fast when it is full, and as it depletes your character will begin to become sluggish in their ability to do anything like dodge, block, run, jump, or attack. When the bar depletes, you'll become temporarily stunned, and your opponent can grapple you and deal damage. No. What if you could control a number of colorful Street Fighter-esque characters who each had their own unique moveset and personality? What if each character had basic grapples that did "tier 1 damage" and advanced grapples that did "moderate damage"? They could also have special grapples (like super moves) that could deal the largest damage, but could only be executed when both your stamina bar and "special bar" were filled, and doing so would deplete both to a large extent. NO GOD DAMNIT. The fights would take place in a variety of stages, and each one would have a number of naturally occurring (not random drops) objects you could interact in order to damage your oponent. Maybe you could throw a person into a table to damage them, or maybe you could pick up a bat so you can deal more stamina damage. NO FUCK YOU GOD DAMNIT NOTHING IS ORIGINAL IN THIS WORLD ANYMORE BUT IT WOULD BE DIFFERENT THAN THOSE TWO THINGS BECAUSE IT WOULD BE ABOUT ACTUAL FIGHTING STYLES AND TECHNIQUES.

IMHO Death Adder would be the best choice.
Back in the SNK mega-threads a more knowledgeable user explained the roles of anchor, mid and battery well and the bits I remember were that the anchor should be a character that can build a lot of meter as well as manage as much possible without using it and the battery is the one to go nuts with all the meter. This mattered a lot in XIII given some characters could do touch-of-death combos with full meter. But this is a extremely basic way to put it.

mostly what said. Meter is important because some characters benefit from being able to have more meter. For example, your second character, or your mid, can have up to four stocks of meter, and your anchor, or your last character, can have up to five stocks of meter. Characters like Benimaru, Kim, and Shen are usually recommended as anchors because some of their best combos or methods of escape when in a tight spot next quite a bit of meter.

Nothing all that interesting. my friend would just lose his cool, because he bought the games and had time to practice them, where as the only practice I had was when I got to play against him. He's kinda mellowed out since then, and he has some interest in trying again with JoJo, and, hopefully, KoF, but I'm not holding my breath. As far as Street Fighter goes, it's always a competition and there's no civility if they win a match, but they expect you to be civil if you win. The costume DLC kinda bugs me too, but that's a minor gripe. I'll probably still pick up SFV once it's actually at a reasonable price for what it is.

SFIV was a mistake. At least KOFXIV seems to be bringing back those features after the weird lack of them in XIII.
Aoi's counters would make a perfect transition DOA5. Too bad that partnership with SEGA seems to be over with only a few new halloween costumes for the VFcast. I already gave up hope on a new Virtua Fighter by SEGA. I can only hope for an official VFxDOA by TeamNinja or at least add one or two more characters for DOA5LR after Naotora was added this year.
Point: A character that don't need to rely on special bars bonuses. Battery: A character that can generate meter for himself or the next character (not really a position but a characteristic) Anchor: GO NUTS! If you have meter, destroy the opponent. Basically a character that is really good with meter (MAX/HD mode, DMs, etc.).

I also have a hard time convincing close friends to play fighting games. They think I'm some sort of KOF master that'll destroy them every single fight while in reality I get my ass handled by every mexican/brazilian on fightcade and I even play with different characters than my main ones. Same thing about 3rdStrike. They don't care for SFV or animefighters in general. Maybe I'll have more luck with MKXL when I get a PS4. But'll still play my favorite games online.
