How Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem Evolved Into Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE

please use archive.is/postgallery/?p_gal=571101|0
Interview of Siliconera with Siliconera spoke with Atlus producer Shinjiro Takada, basically explaining how a Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem crossover became a "Japanese pop idol industry-themed Wii U RPG". I don't even know what's more cringeworthy; if it's them explaining as if this made any sense and they really liked the end product,as if fans of both franchises would want something like this or the retard persona 4 fanboys defending this travesty.

It's because you don't archive your shit.

Because you're a retard who can't read.

Archive.is does seem to break the page though.

brb fixing that shit

just copypaste the article then

...

It was always about the idol money and Atlus(owned by SEGA(who owns miku so they would try to go this direction)) wanted to get into the pie. There was an article a while back saying that there was going to be a singing contest in japan about winning to be a featured character in the next #FE game.
The Idol industry is an endless font of cash because people keep eating it up. It makes more sense why they would do this to SMTxFE instead of them just being retarded for no reason, doesn't make it any less fusterating though.

That first answer makes literally no sense, what the fuck.

you obviously didn't read

That's the thing though, they did not exit their "comfort zone" when being faced to working alongside a different IP. Rather than having Intelligent Systems help them, they just did their own shit and slapped the FE name on it.

Obligatory.

If they never had shown that original "teaser trailer" from 2013 Nintendo Direct there would have been no hype/anticipation over a cross over game we had to wait two years for an actual reveal.

Instead we get this disappointing cross over mess that doesn't even look like a cross over in the first place.

It makes me seriously think that the situation mentioned by was a strong possibility. Even that early TBS version of this game sounded like a better version.

It's gonna be interesting to see someone upload the English subtitled version of this.

I have to give credits to the graphics tough, it's the best 3D emulating 2D-Anime-Style so far, I think.

tl;dr

Not really, the 3d arena anime fighters like narutard, saint seiya, jojo, etc. really blow this out of the water.

...

What's the name of this stuff anyway? It really needs its own name.

What are you talking about, there some bits that just plain old 2d animation. They used 2d at 0:57, it doesn't really mesh with the 3d models they used for the rest of the clip.

I see…

It's just anime style cell-shading.

You think the Jacuzzi get to fug the idols?

Jacuzzi and other higher ups probably. It's a grim reality in contrast to the bullshit Takada is saying in the article about how it "brings out hopes and dreams"

You're the retard, I was talking about the Archive.is

I know right…WTF.

But why? Out of some retarded pride?

How harsh is the idol industry? Because if it's as grim as it really is I have no idea why otakus are still into it, or why chinese cartoons paint it as something magical.

...

Proper uncensor patch that just got released around 30 minutes ago for the few here that might want it, still need your own clean iso but that should be very easy to find if you're not retarded. Apparently they even took the time to revert the redubbed Japanese voice lines like Tsubasa saying she's 18 instead of 17. I'm still in shock that GBAtemp actually produced something worthwhile in a reasonable amount of time for once.

tell me it isn't selling

The game NOBODY asked for.

I'll probably get it when if it hits the bargain bin

I like how in the censored version (also known as the 'localized' product) makes the idol industry look perfectly saintly do-no-wrong when in the original Tsubasa was having second thoughts about exposing her body. In fact, all darker parts of the idolshit industry is scrubbed out. And it was quite tame compared to how it actually is in the real world. But no, Atlus wants in on that money too so instead of at least some critical social commentary a la Persona or Catherine you just get this rose tinted bullshit.

Don't you know, user? It's misogynistic to not whitewash mistreatment of women. Muh vaginabones.

SMTcucks pls

Does this cover everything?

Also the concerts for the songs sold out twice and the CDs sold well enough, from what I heard it was a multimedia project the game was just for show while everything was about the concerts and CDs

SMT is kill

SMT isn't popular as Persona is in Japan, Persona always beat SMT in sales and fans

Yakuza 5 did it better, too.

How do you even fucking arrive at such a conclusion ? SMT is post-apocalyptic and Fire Emblem is medieval. Did they think future+past = present ? Who is that dumb ?
This truly may be one of the stupidest things I've ever read.

The sad thing is that they could have done the post/pre/slowly becoming apocalyptic shit that SMT is known for with FE characters and gameplay with idolshit and still make it work, it would be hard to pull off but you could do it and make comments on how the jap entertainment industry isn't as glamorous as it might seem and they sing to bring back humanity's lost hope or some gay shit like that. But they didn't care, they wanted to make an Idol RPG with FE slapped on it for marketing. They tried the "safe" route and somehow made a game that appeals to no one, megaweebs aren't going to give the time of day due to all the censorship and pretty shit waifus, its "too gay" for normalfags and kids and totally alienated and spat on the faces of SMT and FE fans both.

We could of had Demi-Demon and Ike punching YHWH in the mug, instead we got this shitheap with almost no redeeming qualities.

SMT isn't about apocalyptic shit user, its about happy fun adventures with a dark twist at the end. Haven't you even played Persona 4 which is Atlus' first and best game?

Kill yourself

You should take your own advice.

I don't care who made it, I only care who posts it. And yes everyone does 1 image per panel unless they're redditors who just spams memes and rage faces over everything and call it creativity.

Kill yourself

Actually I should have said
Because its only gigantic fucking faggots who does that. Don't ask me why.

...

Thanks for proving me right I guess.

No, thanks for proving ME right.

I like it
I'm a huge fag for persona shit
I'm just mad they are going to censor the shit out of it

I haven't seen that much incompetence from a dev in a long time. Even Ninja Theory could've done better.

Reminder that Fire Emblem is a series about the horrors of war. And SMT is a series that constantly features dark takes on the apocalypse

No actually, idols have to be virgins because otaku and neets can and will burn all their stuff and throw it in the trash if their beloved idols are not pure, including the voice actress for the voices.

Virgin in this case means they can't get a boyfriend. If the producers demand they have sex with them to keep screentime, it's never going to come out now is it ?

Is there any porn of the game, or did people hate it so much it couldnt even get that?

there are 0 doujins of this game and only a handful of pics of it so yeah it was super hated

I dont get it though. Shit doesnt make sense to me, especially if the idol industry is as terrible as it is

Thank god, maybe we wont have to get shit like this again. I still dont get why they didnt make something like DeSu 3 but with a weird story behind it.

Because DeSu 3 doesnt pander to waifu fags.

The popularity wave of SMT IV wore off, and more Persona shit was getting more popular. They decided that it would sell more if they could get the persona audience on a nintendo console. Hence the name being changed to not reference SMT

The English name still references SMT.

personacentral.com/rumor-tokyo-mirage-sessions-fe-sequel-possibly-works/

What

I thought it bombed and nobody liked it, why are they making a sequel?

At the very most it means that industry is pushing those shit games at a cost.

Well I found this.

They want the idolshit audience apparently. Someone's giving them money.

Is it those producers who want to replace old and busted idols, or did the game have such a low budget that they could afford to do it?

It bombed but i think it was reviewed decently.

Kill yourself, faggot.

>>>/tumblr/

I know you're joking, but I'm still angry. Even SMT4, which is considered by many to be a departure from earlier SMT titles, has the normal life > post apoc shift. It made the series unique among the generic medieval fantasys and anime saturated waifu games.
Why throw that away, Atlus? Why not have Persona and SMT as two separate things?

Yeah, that thing about changing everything 6 months in was disturbing. That's not normal.

But how? Or why?

the digits confirm it

I think I know the answer.

They're not allowed to have boyfriends/husbands or even really have personal lives, for all intents and purposes they're their manager's property.

If otaku knew (or cared) or Taiwanese puppet-shows actually depicted idols as they are behind the curtain idols would become a lot less profitable.

(checked)

I would hesitate to call smt 3 the future. Smt 1 and 2 definitly. Sj was modern day. Raidou 1 and 2 were in the 1920s(?). I have not played smt 4 though. Im not going to comment on persona.

I wonder how hard it would be to leave the idol industry. Besides being "famous" it doesn't seem like there's much to keep them going.

I'm just shocked that Otaku don't care.

Why would the otaku care?

Nah, SMT starts with the apocalypse. It's pretty clear.
These games are spinoffs. They're not part of the numbered SMT series, so they're unrelated to the conversation. You're right though, they're not post-apoc. You could argue that's they're on the cusp of it (more so in SJ's case), but they don't strictly follow SMT's formula.
SMT4's progression is very similar to SMT 1 and 2.
Entirely unrelated, even if Atlus doesn't think so.

#FE is Persona X Fire Emblem (if cameos count for the latter). No question about it.

This is an interesting question. I imagine it isn't difficult to leave, but it'd be impossible to return.
Most otaku don't care because they're disassociated with the world.

Depends since idols have a pre-negotiated contract. Probably they could let their contracts run out or terminate it early and become a hermit but once they're out they're probably out.

As for otaku not caring they're fat shut-ins with too much disposable income, it's not really some big secret idols have a pretty shitty life but otaku don't care if they know because of how cute the dancing 18-year-old in a dress on stage is.

Wasn't IS the ones who came to Atlus because they wanted a FE game set in the present day?

And yet it sounds like we nearly had that at one point.

I don't personally care about the Japanese dialogue since I'm not going to act like I'd understand it anyway, but I will say it's impressive they went to such lengths. If one year isn't such a big deal, why would they change it in the first place?

Yes, it's not the same as the hackjob that went up the day of release on wiiuiso. They claim it covers everything and have provided pretty sufficient evidence for that claim. Dialogue/imagery of the gravure modeling chapter completely restored to the way it was is the biggest example. They apparently overlooked some minor things because of this though, like the shop sign being Hee Haw Mart, but the characters referring to it as Hee Ho Mart. Their "spokesperson" over on GBAtemp says fixing crashes is their current priority, while typos will come later. First crashes were reported in chapter 2, apparently fixed now. If they keep at the pace they were going at this weekend then I expect a flawless version by the end of the month. I haven't personally started it yet, but I did succesfully patch it and boot the game up to make sure it at least gets that far.

gbatemp.net/threads/tokyo-mirage-sessions-fe-restoration.429651/
Thread if you're interested in seeing for yourself, be warned the GBAtemp community is generally full of absolute faggots and retards though, lots of "how do i maek werk" posts to wade through to see the dev responses to actual questions or feedback.

didnt they originally plan SJ to be SMT4 though?

Not sure, but i think the nips hated it because it didnt take place in japan.

Thats like asking why Pedowood paints being an actor or working at their studios as something magical.

I'm not defending idols because I know that somewhere backstage after their shows are over, they're getting fugged behind the curtain and they're going to act like that never happened and just move on with their everlasting career.

"What I Got" counts as a panel you know.

i need to finish aquaria

this tbh fam

Looking back on it, the bikinis being removed from Fatal Frame 5 severely lessened what was supposed to be about how seedy the gravure industry is. It's probably a bit of a stretch, but what if that's at the root of some of this censorship? Like, Nintendo doesn't want people outside of Japan to know that these industries aren't wacky sunshine factories. The Japanese government has been trying to clean up things for the gaijin in time for the 2020 Olympics, so maybe that's at play here.

As I said, It's a bit of a stretch, but it's also something to keep in mind.

kill yourself

worse than expected

And boy, talk about shit. if this was a original project from the start, at least it wouldn't have the hate of fans of both megami and fire emblem.

Being an Idol sounds fucking awful. How do we know this stuff? Does the general Japanese populace know? Do they just not give that much of a shit about how awful the industry is compared to the piles of money it brings in?

SJ was the first mainline SMT game that had a planned international release. They probably didn't want to lose sales to people thinking "Oh, I guess I need to play the other 3 first"

Probably.

Pretty much.

If they actually exposed what being an idol is like much like what being a child actor in Pedowood is like, the piles of money stop flowing and the damage would be so huge it would be difficult to revive it

This user pretty much gets it

Its also like people knowing Disney isn't all 'magical and happy and pixie dust' but instead a pedophile organization

They have dedicated networks to monitor them on fucking valentines day in case they have sex, until they out grow the strict industry standards idols are pretty much permavirgins as a job requirement.

They liked it more than SMT4 m80.

Persona 1 and 2 at least are spinoffs of SMT If…, while Persona 3 and 4 seem to be an entirely separate universe.

Probably FFXIIIing it and plan on reusing a ton of resources from the first pile of shit.

It's the same universe… Same Igor, the Nanjo group exists, and other references to the first two exist in three, which extends to four due to crossovers.

People have been reporting the merchandise (CDs, posters, figmas, etc.) have been selling better than the game.
They're not interested in making a unique game, they're going for otaku money

Persona 3 at least had small mentions of the P1 team on the TV.
Persona 4 is only connected to P1 because it's connected to P3. I'm sure it'll be the same way with P5 only referencing P4 and possibly P3

But Personas themselves work nothing like in the original games, nor does the Velvet Room. Devils likewise don't seem to exist in the P3/4-verse. The lip service they give to the Persona games in 3 and 4 barely compares to the fact that the rules of the universes don't even begin to resemble one another.

...

Nigger, no one defends this game in Japan or America. Why would waifufags like a game where you can't bag any of the girls? This game appealed to literally no one because they were indecisive on which audience they wanted.

I can't tell if I've heard this song before somewhere or jpop has just gotten so generic I can't differentiate it anymore.

There's more to making 3d look like 2d anime than just cell shading though.

...

Cell shading is the primary part. The next part is fps and how much you "blur the lines" when filling in the cell models.

He read about it from someone who read it on yaraon.
