If you study computer science or software engineering you can get work in a pretty stable industry of work. Likewise if you take up a trade (why it is that some important softskills aren't protected and invested in like trades is a mystery). Becoming a lawyer is only a good job if you're someone who doesn't feel bad about picking on someone or tricking people, because that's pretty much the job, as a defense attorney you trick a crowd of people into believing that the guilty are innocent or that compelling evidence is inconclusive. As a prosecutor you trick said crowds into believing that innocent people are bad, and that evidence that isn't conclusive is the most damning evidence of all. Obviously this doesn't apply to all cases on either side, but the fact of the matter is, being a lawyer is only a good job prospect if you can shrug that kind of shit off.

As a doctor, it depends on what kind of doctor you are, as a medical practitioner who takes care of people there are loopholes and problems, such as the fact that as a surgeon you can perform a life-saving miracle and prevent someone from dying and still have your hospital sued for malpractice.

In the end, it's fairly safe to work in trades. Just don't fall for the "make money now!" trap and become a service industry fucktard, because a lot of would-be philosopher kings think Good Will Hunting is a good metric to go by and get into grunt work that goes nowhere thinking that one day they'll be recognized for being a genius and it'll automatically land them a job with a sweet package.

I'll tell you what I told a group of 1st semester students just a couple days ago while visiting my old professors - it's a very personal choice to choose what you will do for the rest of your life. You will have to make sacrifices, you will struggle, break down, and push your boundaries, but your teachers and the people around you who actually support you and want the best for you (not all families do, jealousy affects everyone) will notice that you're working to improve yourself and help in whatever ways they can. When I was younger I had a few ideas in mind on trades, blacksmithing, tool and dye maker or machinist. Well I have experienced being a machinist and that shit is pretty nasty. I've seen guys throw up blood from the chemicals in a machinist shop, so you don't wanna go there.

Tool and Dye maker is pretty cool stuff, very precision work, so if you like working with your hands and you've got a head for numbers, it can be pretty satisfying. Blacksmithing still exists to some degree, but nowadays they just make fucking gates and horseshoes and shit, and it's a pretty niche trade. Although if you become an ARTISAN blacksmith, you could make and sell shit like those goofy swords you see people buy online.

If you live in a country with laxer gunlaws, Gunsmith can be pretty cool, or even Locksmith. There's so many trades, it's hard to name off all of them, but there's so many interesting things to try, if I had enough years to my lifespan, I'd try 100 years at all of them.

I have a few questions though: Do your teachers seem like they actually worked in whatever industry they're teaching? Do they teach to the Code of whatever industry you're studying? Do alumni return to the school, email professors about employment opportunities, etc.?

They've even gone as far as training us how to act when a coworker is trying to get you fired and whatnot.
