Assuming you know your shit, at which point in time should one start running with weights instead of without weights? I'm 2 months in into running and lifting and shit, and have already made some progress, but even a non-stop 1-mile run makes breathing hurt.

Long distance running unfortunately is a lot more genetically influenced than people dare to accept. While cardio can be trained, lactic acid resilience/disposal is a lot harder to train, and more up to genetics. For some people, running long distances is never something they can do (but walking, hiking, climbing, strolling, jogging long distances is okay because your cardio will cover for you)

Start with no weights, the basic is your breathing and tempo/rhythm. Breathing and tempo is basically what man created to beat the genetic factor by regulating how much lactic you're creating. The essence of it is the less wasted effort, the less lactic created, the longer you can run. I'll start with no weights just to get the breathing and rhythm down pat before anything else. Then only attach weights if your weight attachments are form fitting. You don't want anything that disrupts your basics before you really master it. But after that, feel free to run in a backpack or something. I used to run about 12-15 kg of stuff in my backpack while running for 2km.

You'll honestly want to time yourself doing 1km/1 mile up to your preference and only add another mile in when you're happy with the time and running that doesn't make you winded at all. Then you start the 2 mile course with no weights until you get your stamina (loosely speaking) downright and start adding weights. Rinse and repeat until you can do 25km every afternoon after work (that's an Afrikaan friend's record, mine's only 12km).

Training in a group for melee weapons (imagine spear training montage in chink movies) is more about being able to evaluate spacing in a melee scenario than it is a drill to cement the techniques. If your group of peeps who trained together knows the basic capability of the guys next to him and are confident in the way they can use their sticks etc in a massed scenario, your line will hold.

If you're firing at 600 yds you wont hit anything without a high power scope. So you probably want a dedicated sniper rifle.

50-300 yds you'll get more hits with an AR. Especially if your targets are moving around.

You CAN hit at 600 with a scar in 308, helps to have a 9x scope and a stationary target, clear day etc. Modern variable 1-6x three gun scopes can do the job too, but the round has to be up to it. 5.56 just can't buck the wind all that well.

But that's besides the point, this is a thread about likely combat scenarios, andn600 yards is unlikely even in a-stan. Someone might harass you into low crawling, but at that distance, our military doctrine calls for combined arms fire. Arty, helicopter, airstrike, or plain old get in the car and drive closer to the fuckers while laying down suppressive fire. Infantry rifles (what they should be called) should be geared towards our stated doctrine of "close in on and engage with the enemy while taking advantage of and directing combined arms fire".

All the caliber plonking is a smaller part of a big picture where team work and resources / logistics are more dominant t forces. Otherwise you're just referring to street skirmishes, in which case armor and surprise > rifle type or even caliber.

And also because America was already at war economically with Germany and supplying Britain to the point of basically fighting their war for them on the materials end (see Lend-Lease and Destroyers for Bases, for two prominent examples). Roosevelt was looking for American entrance into the war, it was inevitable. The idea that Germany declared war on America for the sole purpose, or even the primary purpose, of appeasing the Japs in hope of a two front war with the Soviets is patently false. America was poised for the destruction of Germany since at least 1937 with the "Neutrality" Act of that year.
I can understand misunderstanding the situation between Germany and the USA and thinking the DoW on America by Germany was a purely pro-Jap move, but this is just appallingly retarded on both a chronological and strategic level.

The US was sending pilots and supplies ( war material) to England & the USSR for years before war was declared. The only thing the declaration of war did is allow the Germans to fight back openly with honor and in accordance to international law as well as expose the US as an aggressor (wiped from memory due to post war PR).
The US typically gets away with bombing entire countries without declaring war WWII would be no different in fact it may have been preferable due to national sentiment being against the war until Pearl Harbor (which the US was responsible for… freezing foreign assets is an act of war). They bullied Brazil under threat of invasion to send troops to fight the Italians… yes, the Italians for crying out loud.

Some basic CQC training with a bayonet isn't necessarily a bad idea for urban combat training. That being said, it needs to be conducted against proper weighted targets, and you need to teach basic unarmed training alongside it. Stabbing a piece of paper with an SKS is about as useful in terms of training as doing push ups with your knees touching the ground.

5.56 is certainly poor at the task, but if you know the basics and have 7.62x51 and up, you just send more rounds. If you can be taught to 'expert' level at least the old standards , then at 600 yds, you should have hits more often then not.

You want endurance, you want to be able to run extremely fast for relatively short distances. You don't need to be able to run 5 miles nonstop, being able to travel 5 miles varying from running, walking, crawling, jogging, etc. with gear is much better than just being able to run very far.

Most combat is done in close quarters, the long range shit is what fire support is for.
