I have played both Metros at launch at max difficulties with no HUD, not a big fan of it.

Indie games are a phenomenon not unlike the rise of B-Movies back in the day (which, despite the label they'd get to define it, had prestigious film makers turning to because it involved less financial risk and more creative freedom. Hell, budget-wise and all, Psycho was a B-movie). This gets us the throwbacks we all know and love and more experimental stuff.

I find value in the 'experimental stuff', I think it's fascinating what you can do with the medium by restricting some of the things we take for granted, so on.

A lot of people don't, though. That's fine. We call that demographics. Your experimental game won't have mainstream appeal and get everybody onboard with it. That's the price of art. Deal with fucking it.
