I heard but don't know if it's true, that on certain systems if you enter the wrong launch code the high explosive portion detonates. Supposedly that's what happened on the Russian nuclear sub during the Cuban missile crisis when American navy was hunting subs and onboard one sub the party representative decided to launch a nuclear torpedo to take out the American fleet. The captain realized it would be the end of the world, so he deliberately entered the wrong launch code, destroying the sub.
