What did you guys think of the new God of War shown at e3?

If I wanted to play The Last Of Us then I'd watch The Last Of Us instead.

Plus Kratos had a daughter and wife who he both slaughtered and at times in the 'emotional' moments of the series, scenes of 'muh daughter' were present. Pandora was even used as an allegory to it in GOW3.

I don't think the over the shoulder camera is very conductive to a hack and slash game.

Ok I will say one thing. If I were to decide between playing TLOU and GoW I would choose GoW.
Kratos have gotten older I can say it even through I played only though Chains of Olympus, but this one trailer made him more interesting character than the protag of TLOU. He still have gotten mad at kid and actually made some proper raising decisions.
It is not Kratos I have once seen but it is still not that bad character.

In all seriousness, I don't know what to think. It certainly doesn't look anywhere near as fast as GOW3, which is disappointing. I suppose the games do generally tend to start off slow, but still. As well as that, I hope Spartan Rage is more of the Devil Trigger type of thing it's always been rather than just an instakill for bosses that it looks like in the footage they showed.

I'm not sure about the player-controlled camera or how well it'll work given the rest of the series never had it. I remember seeing concept art of giant swamps and mushrooms and the level design seemed interesting, at least from an aesthetic standpoint.

I'm skeptical, I guess. It's disappointing that TC Carson isn't Kratos' voice actor anymore, but he seemed to be taking it well on Twitter and I'm happy that Chris Judge is getting more work.

I don't know about that father+son adventure, but I do remember one original idea was that you were to play as this huge ass super armored Knight who carried a puppy around in a cage on your back. You would let the puppy out (along with petting and such) and the puppy was for certain puzzles, but then the puppy would run back to the knight, who would put it in the cage and then proceed to rip and tear the shit out of all the foes in his way for daring to mess with his puppy.

They still used part of this when the first cerberus shows up in GoW1 as it's a puppy and growls at Kratos and Kratos gives a total WTF reaction.

Agreed. God of War was a platformer hack-n-slash and was good with puzzles. Yes, it got sorta cinematic in battles with "press O for QTE to kill everything", but you still had to actually try to fight and nothing was handed to you and you had many different ways to deal with encounters.

While that sucks dick, I'm pretty sure I know how the story is set up.

Hated? not quite, but it's been pointed out that the second game had the best mechanics, the story has been shit post the first game, and the combat has gotten lackluster or had programming flaws past 2 that render certain encounters near unbeatable.

It wasn't praised or outwardly hated, it just wasn't talked about.

On the one hand, I 'm okay with taking the series in a new direction as it was frankly getting a bit stale by the third. On the other, the new direction in which they've taken it seems pretty generic and seems a lot like Uncharted or The Last of Us but with the usual giant monster QTEs.

I guess I'll withhold judgment until I see more.

1. It looks interesting but holy crap that is just not gow. Just make a new ip, the vg industry just cannot let go of franchises. Its even worse than the movie industry at it.

It'll probably be a slow-paced sequel to tlou with single-enemy gameplay, heavy moral drama, tearjerker twist and a massive cliffhanger ending where we maybe see some lesser God's asscheek.

I hope some other franchise picks up GoW's mantle, they're just throwing out a perfectly great legacy.

Having played all GOW games, this looks like a massive dissappointment. Specialñy with Chains of Olympus and the whole Calliope arc. And everyone who says its a button masher confirmed for never playing beyond normal

Hell it looks more like Ryse on Xbone compared to regular GoW games. Why can't they make it a regular hack and slash nowadays, the camera angle is zoomed so far to the character that if multiple enemies appear it'd probably be a pain in the ass. Somehow this makes DmC look decent.

This. Even the Batman games switched camera angles for combat. Melee combat doesn't make sense with a behind the shoulder camera because you have depth perception problems and, more importantly, your character model is blocking your view of the carnage.

If it doesn't change radically gameplay wise or combat wise at some point in the story then it's pretty bad

Bad: Not much about it interests me. Original GoW took inspiration from Onimusha, Devil May Cry, and Ico. This installment seems to take a lot more inspiration from the blandified AAA titles of years past, and that reflects in the demo. I forget which games GoW4 reminds me of, but the gameplay doesn't float my boat.

I like the character design, how they are written (seriously this is not pandering to SJWs, in fact, Mcintosh was crying about this on twitter), and the fact they went with a new mythology.

But I dislike that they're following this "cinematic experience" trend. If there is no way to skip these forced walking sections where you do nothing but listen to the characters talk, that alone will be enough to turn me off completely from the game because I get bored to death of this storytelling method on subsequent playthroughs. That is NOT how I want to feel in a beat 'em up, for fuck's sake.

I liked it, also points for him getting "angry kratos Spartan rage points" when he got mad at the kid, and then calmed down. Feels like we are going to go more in depth into Kratos then the god of war and rage.
Yeah it felt that way but those parts and that "boss" might of just been part of the intro/cinematic shit, even god of war 3 had those moments be they far and in between.
Any fans of the games remember the prequel and how devoid of character it was? I plays as God of War and when that game came out I was hoping for some character build aside anger given the trailer, but make no mistake I loved the rage and corny bad assery, this is more then welcomed.
