GWENPOOL - Komm Süsser Tod

The final issue of Gwenpool dropped today.

Let's spend Gwen's last moments together.

The theme of this issue: acceptance.

CECIL BECOMES A REAL BOY AGAIN!

Gwen also gets to be one of the Avengers and meets Spider-Gwen!

Also, she gets to see a little girl dress as her for Halloween.

Good.

I don't want to accept this. No when Champions is still out and so much cancer.

I guess it is better to see this end like this instead of have Gwen turn into another squirrel girl and be corrupted?

Hey, it's Gwen-Pig! And The Power Pack! And a Moon Girl that actually looks like a little girl! And Officer Grey!

Also, Squirrel Girl! And because she's written by a decent writer and drawn by good artists, she's an adorable and likeable character!

Gwen gets to kick Mephisto's ass and reunite with her brother again! If only Squirrel Girl were as good in her own book as she is here!

Now the little girl from before is old, and probably dying, and Gwen spends some time with her.

And … it's over. A beautifully bittersweet ending to a series that started as a crappy meme.

I think I got something in my eye.

I see.

It is true indeed that the hardest part is letting go.

I fucking hate this hobby.

I was not expecting these emotions.

Just you wait. This series is going to explode in a few years and catch Marvel with their pants down.

Is just… there is so much tragic unsolved shit. Like what would their parents do after losing two kids.

Aw shait. That's pretty sad. But better she ends as a great character than as a shitty, washed up deadbeat or "diversified" like the rest of the capes. Man, I'm gonna miss Gwen, she was a real cutie.

I wanna kiss Gwenpool on the lips

Well, if you got $80 and are willing to wait until September, then you could give her the hot glue treatment.

We can buy this thing? I thought it was Japan exclusive.

Look at it this way, user. Gwenpool got a good ending, one that really hits home with comics fans and allows her character to mature and accept what it means to be a comic character. If her book continued on forever, the creative team would get rotated in and out, at best they'd rehash the same plot lines and at worst it would just be lol so randumb xD crossovers all the time with quirky hijinx. Like the little Gwenpool fan, she got the run she deserved, and the knowledge her time was ending so she could see the end on her own terms.

Are haven't been here long, have you?

When this first started, I was turned off by a lot of things; the shit art of Issue 1, Gwenpool's early attempts at being lolsorandum, her sociopathy about background characters while insisting she's still the hero (like trying to shoot Spider-Nig's criminal classmate and completely expecting him to be okay with it), and overall coming off like a self-insert's version of Deadpool. The fags in the previous threads who responded to any criticism of the book with waifufaggotry or agreeing with her "Comics mean nothing matters" beliefs didn't help my opinion. I fucking hate using Metafiction as a means to devalue the world around the characters, it only detracts from the story.

But the book actually surprised me by taking all the grievances I've had and trying to weave them into the book without doing something stupid like calling the readers haters or something. Gwen's lack of self-awareness got her in trouble more times than not, trying to tango with A-Listers got her ass beat, the metashit went in actually interesting directions by interacting physically with shit like borders and sound effects and becoming the basis of her powers, Gwen learned how much of an ass she's been during the Future Gwen arc and sacrificed her book to not hurt the heroes she loved, and I think its handling of the cancellation as a "Impending Mortality" plotline was handled fairly well.

I still can't say it's the best book Marvel's ever made. But goddammit, it's a solid story with a solid character arc, attractive protagonist, likable supporting cast and nice art, All of which in combination are in rare supply in today's Marvel. Though I gotta disagree on one thing about the ending; it might be better that Gwenpool die peacefully rather than go the way of Squirrel Girl.

Could have done without all the panels wasted on the nu-marvel token heroes, but as far as send-offs go, I think Hastings did it right. Closure for all the characters people give a fuck about. A few good moments. Finality without burning every bridge. There's possibilities for it to come back, but at the same time, it doesn't leave us on a cliffhanger.

Good stuff.

...

Which really is a fail safe against Marvel kikery because now it doesn't matter what they do with the character, the real her is forever protected in these pages.

So who's stronger Holla Forums Galactus or Editorial?

Galactus is an essential part of the universe so I'd say Galactus in most cases

Well, isn't the Editorial basically the One Above All, which is both god and the avatar of the author?

What if they restart the series in a year or two with the same artist and the same writer?

The key word here is restart, it would have to be issue 26 for it to count as the same gwen.

People have expectations for popular characters which may even twist editorial's arm at times

In an interview with Multiversity comics, Chris Hastings revealed some plans for Gwenpool that didn't make the cut.

Marvel denied us more Evil Gwen.

That sounds pretty good.

Big Gwen knows this is volume 1, which means starting the count from scratch won't necessarily mess with Gwen herself. Of course, this relies on whichever writer Marvel choosing for a future Gwenpool run to have read this, but even if it's shit Gwen knew it and stayed the same at heart. Other writers can bend her into the shape they want but deep down she'll always be the same Gwen, so long as someone, at some point in time, writes a comic that acknowledges it.

What if all future Gwenpool writers never read the original 25 and only ever know her from all the non-Hastings work turning her into LE SELFIE MILLENIAL NOT-DEADPOOL?

See
If the worst comes to happen, then we have the best forever and we know it, and as fans that's all we need.

Nononono you keep Moon Girl away from Power Pack, I don't want them to remember that they have that line to ruin again.

We should storytime Hastings' previous miniseries, Longshot Saves The Universe, until they have the good taste to put him on another regular book.
They really should be giving Adam Warren more work, too…

Fuck I'm laughing. I don't know if was MCninja idea or are they dmg controlling for the Star Wars movie and new upcoming shit

Phew

According to his twitter, Marvel is shooting down all of his pitches and canning his projects.

Well of course. He was supposed to just write a meme character for a meme comic. Critical reception doesn't matter, is he can't follow the rules how can you trust him with more joke. Gwen became, at least by what they expected, a really complex character that they can't just slap into everything else as cheap merchandise, if you ask at Marvels executive board they'll tell you that Hastings ruined the Gwenpool product.

He's going back to BOOM! Studios for some licensed OGN. Meanwhile, did he got the taste of the Shogun?

Gurihiru's art is what made this comic.

I'll grant you they made Potato Squirrel look cute instead of horrific, which is a major achievement.

That was beautiful user. It was nice to see her story one last time. Seriously dude this means a lot to me.

Makes me wonder what Squirrel Girl would be like if Gurihuri did the art and it had good writing.

I.. I don't k-know how I feel about this…

Gwenpool tv series with >her bisexual gf when?

Toska (Russian): A sensation of great spiritual anguish, often without a specific cause; a longing with nothing to long for.

Why dis gurihiru draw Julie so much like Gwen?

Wow, Gwenpool's artist actually makes her look halfway not vomit inducing.

Anime/manga sacrifices detail for exaggerated emotions and facial expressions.
Two girls with similar hair will always look the same, hence the crazy hairdos and colours.

Well they did draw her before.

it still hurts user.

Disgusting.

What's worse is that that's a variant cover, so you'd buy Gurihiru's cute Squirrel Girl and then open it up to find the horrifying CalArts hamster/hambeast inside.

You don't know what you got til it's gone.

What a nice comic this was.

The Nips got it worse. The Japanese edition of SQ has this for the cover. It's the pinnacle of false advertisement.

They could be making so much money from this cute crap, but they just have to be shit-heads.

...

Isn't Warren constantly busy working on Empowered and consuming copious amounts of manga and anime? It's been a long time since he wasn't just a guest artist or writer for big two. Considering that he knows people like Jim Lee, Warren could probably get a big two book i he wanted to.

As if the Big Two would be willing to pay for that kind of talent.

They killed the meme girl everyone loved and turned it into the meme trans-Down syndrome monster everyone hates.

A meta character that beated everyone with bullshit, not because she was a marysue, but because she was incredibly lucky.

Feminists know shit how to write female characters.

Do you think they sell Squirrel tail buttplugs like they do with cat tails, but these all big and fluffy?

...

But it's not like Julie has never been drawn in a similar art style before or even drawn in a similar art style by gurihiru themselves…

Damn, Power Pack & old Squirrel Girl seem like comfy series to fall on after Gwenpool. Where should I start Holla Forums?

We need a rule 34 continuation of that third page's opening panels.

Who knew a dumb joke character would end up becoming Marvel's best book in a five-year period?

Power Pack 1. Skip 34 (it's a bad filler issue)

Oh. Original Power Pack is actually really dark (It's a good tier under Animorphs' "Everything is fucked and only some hormonal, irrational teens can hold off absolute failure while you hope for outside intervention that may never come and by the end most of the team and the handicapped children they recruited are dead", but pretty dark for a kid's series). You can skip to the stand-alone Power Pack Day One miniseries then read the rest of those minis in release order, but they're crammed full of in-jokes about the original series

One of the most jarring things I can get from this comic is how the guest characters are far better here than in their own comics.
With less than 10 lines she was obviously adorkable, smart but not Mary Sue, confident but not invincible.
Originally just a gimmick by Bendis, here is actually supportive, wise, believably atoning in around 5 pages of appearance.
And finally the most egregious.
The guy's been out for years now and I still can't mention one memorable thing about him. In Gwenpool he's a down to earth guy that cares about his family above everything, shit, one of the main complaints is that he doesn't even have a real arch-nemesis villain but now he had evil Gwen, an nearly omnipotent sociopath with a god complex guilty of the dead of his family just to amuse her.
Now that's an origin story and an arch-nemesis.

And paved paradise put up a parking lot.

I got some Gwenpool porn if you want.

I'll never understand why the big two won't just hire these people on a regular basis.

YES DAMMIT

That's Norman's cock.

They don't want the mediastorm that would erupt once SJWs find out they hired porn artists.

Aren't "media storms" what they crave though?
Really pokes a massive hole in the argument that these companies don't put ideology before business.

This board is for Western art, friend.

Not if it runs the risk of displeasing the soy boys. They think twitter makes up their entire fanbase, so in their minds, doing anything to displease them would make them go bankrupt.

Most porn artists aren't equipped to handle drawing 20 comic pages with actual deadlines attached.

Neither can most of their current artists.

Hey Holla Forums

Hey, at least squirrel grill has lost weight

That would be ironic, isn't that the same thing that happened to Squirrel Girl?
She started as a forced meme, then she got a fun run for a while then…. oh…. no.

And her down syndrome.

My Marvel fetish just defeated my favorite Marvel villain with a bazooka. I'm fine with that.

>Most porn artists aren't equipped to handle drawing 20 comic pages with actual criminally short deadlines attached.
FTFY

That reminds me.
