My thoughts: Antifa leadership doesn't give a shit if some commie beta trying to score some hairy pussy dies to advance the cause.
Anything but a well documented and clearly legal use of lethal force at this event will make leftists look good in the media.

Responding to Antifa's insults and lesser melee attacks with unnecessary lethal force would likely garner sympathy for antifa, generate backlash for the South (aka the Real America), and possibly destabilize the balance between whites and blacks in the South.
Antifa should be humiliated with force not exceeding that which they themselves commit. But if the defending side does use firepower, ideally it would a) be non-lethal to show that consideration was given to even the life of a violent criminal, and b) be recorded in high definition and immediately uploaded on social media to subvert the media's spin.

3/8 to 1/2 plywood is preferable for a ~28-32 inch diameter shield, viking style. You can and should laminate it for extra strength though. The goal there is to get as big a shield as possible that still stays light, so we compensate for the thinness with lamination. This will naturally be a more advanced built though and probably not even that good in a riot use. (weaker, harder to see past it, unweildy, vunerable to grabbing, etc). I'd only really suggest it for pre-planned shield walls.

For most people, I would suggest something smaller like Stickman's. Which just cutting out a circle of 3/4 is fine, and much easier. You can get more shields per plywood sheet that way too. Shit's just simple, and simple is good.

Fam, I don't know how well it will work, but ballistic shields are not very good.

They are heavy, unweildy, and a pain in the ass, especially if they will be protecting against everything above IIa. If you would expect armed enemies, you would wear body armour. Also, if lead starts to whizz, the first thing you should do is getting into cover, thus your shield tactics are rendered useless. A plywood shield with 2mm of aluminium would be good enough. It will deflect blows from sticks and clubs and shards from slings. Small to medium sized heater shield for 1v1s and big kite/coffin/wardoor(if you want to lug it) for shield walls. Also, you are talking about organized masses. Have you noticed that almost noone uses any tactics in those skirmishes?

I'm using mixed materials that should keep the total weight under 15lbs, aiming for 8lbs. Initial design will be a viking style round shield, but I will produce whatever is desired and effective. I can state that if I made them out of only the resin, they would be better than lvl1, and the additions are designed for high velocity rounds. The higher the velocity, the better the protection. the material design in theory should turn the velocity back against the bullet, causing it to shatter as it passes through the resin, dispersing the energy before any remnants that could penetrate would impact the backplate. I would still highly advise anyone using these to wear a vest at minimum regardless. I'm aiming for lvl7 but until it's tested, that's just a dream and a meme.
