It's probably not the sort of cult you are thinking it is. The children and some of the adults will be indoctrinated but the (((powerful people))) aren't, they just use it as an easy source for children who will never have a chance to tell anybody what is happening to them. In the West we regard it as a cult but other cultures lack the context to understand it the way we might. In Taiwan there are allowances for missionaries and religious groups for visas etc - so labelling yourself as Christian is operationally beneficial.
