When conducting a study, or just gathering data, a lot of the interpretation of that data is subjective, it's based on the researchers own interpretation. A researcher can, and they have, manipulate the sample of data to show whatever they want.

If a researcher found a particular social class of whites that did have high suicide rates they would interpret this as ALL whites having high suicide rates. Consider the social class of white heroin users all across the country for example. If suicide rates in this group are high, a researcher could view this as high suicide rates among all whites and not among drug users.

ALWAYS REMEMBER

That researchers use scientific means of discovering unkown values of the population by sampling a very small amount of any given population. This very small amount (n=500 or less) is then used to blanket an entire population that could number as high as the hundreds of millions, in the white population case.
