One can argue that the only reason they don't let you select gender at the start is marketing. It's pretty much their next biggest franchise, one of the most longest running, they're not going to do anything to make it less recognizable. Risk-avoidant, but that's their right. Same principle is why they're not going to make the gameplay inaccessible to casual shits.
But, this means that the only reason they WOULD change it and make link a girl is also marketing. And with who's driving that journalistic push for it to happen, it's obvious that in the game after the one where link's a girl, zelda would be some disfigured tranny, or they'll model NPC's after the baldest and beardiest treehouse staff they can find or something. We all know what their goal is.
