NeiR: Automata

What does everybody think of the new trailer, and the game as a whole?
With platinum working on the gameplay and the original writers on board I have faith that this will be at least a good game, I won't go so far as to say GOTY just yet.

One of the writers said that this is going to have a happy ending, but considering their past work I don't believe im going to feel happy at the end of this

I'm extremely excited, nier is my favorite game and I can't fuckin wait. Kind of disappointed by the delay but I'm sure it'll be for the best in the end.

It's looking great, but I'd like to see a bit more of uninterrupted gameplay/fights. Also a trailer focusing on the story since we know fuck all about it.

Elaborate. Did I miss something? How far did it get pushed back? I wasn't even aware there was a set date.

sasuga OP

Did they show more of the clothes ripping?

So far this E3 has only been good for seeing more of what I already planned on getting, this game included.
Good trailer, if a bit short. Background graphics seem the usual P* ghetto fare but if the gameplay is good, the frame rate stable and the art direction solid, that's something I can easily overlook.
That said, still a bit weary about it. P* has been a bit out of shape lately, to say the least (Activision's titles and Monster Zit Popper Trashbound) and Squenix already showed they're the kind of cucks who will preemptively censor things to avoid hurting Western fee fees and they might as well decide they want this game to be "for everyone".
I get the feeling this is the game that will pull P* out of their rut or pound the last nail in their coffin.

But so far so good. Hope it stays that way.

Looks very very good so we'll see.
Platinum has been slipping up recently but then again it's licensed games.

...

originally it was set for 2016 release now it's early 2017

i too am excited for near:ottomata by titanium games
they did a great job on the bayonet games and wooden lever liquid: forgiveness

i'm just hoping it won't be a giant fuck you to western audiences like the last Taro Yoko game with paid japanese voice acting DLC and terrible english dub

Disappointed that emi evans won't be returning for automata but still hope the music will remain great.

im excited. looks awesome.

...

...

...

Life is suffering. I'm waiting until the ps4 neo comes out so I can buy the ps4 and game second-hand from someone at a cheap price.

how good is Neir one,

shame that its one of those still pricy ps3 games

Though I liked it, it's grossly overhyped here tbh

Its already confirmed on PC

Thanks for your contribution. Very informative post

Watch a youtube movie version of it if you're curious, the gameplay is pretty mediocre so you won't be missing out on much. The appeal is the absurdly good music (embed related), very good art direction, and tragic story with the gameplay being the only bad part of the game. This is why people are excited for the sequel because Platinum has quite a bit more experience with action combat.

Pretty damn excited OP, although I get the feeling that the OST will not hold a candle to Nier or even Drakengard 3. Then again we've only seen a few tracks, so who really knows.

I'm not too worried about the gameplay, since all that Platinum needs to do is make it fun and it'll be an improvement over the original.

Machines wage this war of futility so obviously the main char is a machine.

...

Been contemplating getting NieR for a while. Is it a lot like Drakengard (have to get D3 as well)?

thanks for saving me money

Music probably won't be as good. I accepted that since the very beginning as NieR's OST is exceptionally good (don't think there's any other game OST that I personally found so appealing for so long), with 4 top notch albums to show off for it (OST, Nightmare Arrange, Piano and Tribute; dunno if there's more) but listening to the new main theme with rather cringey EN lyrics got me a little worried that I might not like it for reasons besides "not as good as NieR's". I admit it's a rather big deal for me.

Cautiously optimistic
After Platinum's recent titles its pretty obvious their name is no guaranteed seal of quality. If anything they are absolute trash out of their comfort zone.

nice

i hadn't heard that song yet, the singer just makes it sound like a generic American song for a Disney movie or something. the song in the PGW trailer was superb though, better than NieR's stuff in my opinion.

since Keiichi Okabe is composing it i'd say theres hope for the soundtrack.

it'll probably be an improvement compared to past titles gameplay

I remember reading some interview a while back that even Okabe wasn't expecting that the ost would be so well received.

...

Where the hell have you been? The protagonists are confirmed to be androids from the moon sent to the Earth to fight robots.

Nier is much, much better than Drakengard in many ways. It's still a painfully average game, but the story, soundtrack and characters are pretty good. It's probably 8-4's best localization as well.

Drakengard 3 is more of a hit or miss. The performance is pretty fucked up and the localization is very iffy (thanks 8-4), but the gameplay is a bit smoother than Nier's. It has plenty of dark humor which is a hit or miss with many people.

It was already in English in Japan, that's why they did this one and not Replicant

is it ps4 exclusive?
if it is then xbox can keep Scalebound and shove it up their arse

I still want to know this.

The side quests were one of my favorite parts of of the game. They're not something you will see in the cutscene compilations.

I'm optimistic. So far Automata's combat looks better than Korra/TMNT ever did.

Looks fast, fluid and badass, interest @ maximum.

"Happy ending of sorts"
Yoko Taro said the same about the ending for the first Nier game.

I thought they were going to try get the original musician from Nier back for Automa.

My major problem with Drakengard 3 was the fact the maps seemed to small and linear, compared to the first Drakengard when they were giant battlefields.

Gotta agree, that main theme is fucking garbage. I cringed so bad at it because of in your face lyrics and disneyish feel of it. Seriously how can you introduce that to anyone with straight face? But all gameplay music was rad as hell.

Will Gestalt or Replicant be canon to this? Will it even matter whether it was Father Nier or Brother Nier?

Speaking of which, is Replicant worth importing to see the differences? I don't think my Japanese is quite there yet but I might get it in the future if it is worth it.

I don't understand why people do this. It's like saying to go read the script of a movie instead of watching it. Even if the gameplay isn't good or there isn't much of it, I find that playing games myself makes the story more enjoyable than just watching it. I guess controlling the main character at all lets me connect with them more.

Also the gameplay of Nier isn't even that bad. It's not all that deep or anything but I had fun.

I'm really sad that Emi Evans isn't back on vocals.

This game is looking better and better in every trailer. I like that bullet hell boss battles, dodging those gonna be fun as fuck

...

Its the same team that did MGR, so you know the combat gonna be top tier. I just hope they get rid of the QTE for this game. So far, none of the trailer show any QTE so it looks promising.

They said that while it's a sequel, and some characters from Nier might make an appearance, that it's very loosely connected. I doubt it'll make a big deal out of the differences in Replicant and Gestalt. I wonder if we'll see Emil again, since he's the only one still alive when the invasion begins.

I remember hearing that Emil is confirmed to show up at some point as a minor character.

I'd imagine it would be him. He was fighting alien invaders in the far future, and he's the only known survivor of the Nier cast, so it doesn't leave many other options.

Also, are you sure this isn't Emi on vocals in the beginning?

Replicant (Brother) Nier is considered canon by Yoko Taro himself, so it's the best bet. It won't matter anyways since everyone from the original Nier, shades and replicants alike, ought to be dead by now except for Emil.

Yoko Taro did confirm that Emil is going to come back with a minor role. He also sort of hinted an Accord cameo saying that "if fans think that she should make an appearance, I'll see what I can do" or something like that.

Oh fuck yes. The gameplay looks so fucking good and gauntlets/hand to hand combat was confirmed during the stream too

It's gonna be a crazy fucking ride and I'm going to enjoy every second of it

So no chance of a PC release huh?

In an interview Yoko Taro said that the platforms the game will be available on isn't set in stone but that was back in 2015. The odds of it happening now are slim.

I'll likely be terrible at it but I like the danmaku elements; something new tossed into the equation. At first, the game looked like it would be a re-skinned MGRR.
And the boss theme is fantastic which is somewhat assuaging after that godawful main theme.

Pretty sure it came from Taro himself, so he's most likely rusing us to high hell or the "Happy" Ending will be considered the worst ending.

How much do you want to bet the happy ending is "Everybody dies and therefore nobody suffers anymore"?

Nier and Drakengard series are very niche and SE almost reluctant to greenlight the sequel because the poor sales. I'm not sure if SE even want to release it on PC since most of their other less popular franchise are exclusive 1 system like Star Ocean series

that would be nice, saw the fight with the boss, it looks fun and the music its still good.
oh shit, something horrible its going to happen i just know it! DLC? Shit translation?

Taro have a weird definition of "happy ending"

He was here, faggots.

It is better to play the game than watch it, I agree, but not everyone has a 7th gen console or is willing to go through the hassle of finding a physical copy.

I never watch movie versions of any PC game or any game that has particularly good gameplay, in the case of the latter if it's only on console I watch a blind lets play from a veteran player, which for me was ENB for Bloodborne.

How come the only chracter of any Yoko Taro vidya to get a happy ending is Nowe? Yeah I know Taro didn't direct that but still

You answered yourself.
Noway not only was a shitty generic JRPG protagonist, but he also did everything wrong as well as mass killings of his former allies and comrades under the thought process that "they're wrong and I'm doing the right thing!" despite everyone constantly telling him that he's fucking wrong.
If Taro had directed that mess, he would be burning forever in some sort of purgatory since he fits the "people who kill and try to justify their mass murders are wrong" thing he did with Nier. Hell, Papa Nier got fucking roasted for less than that and it legitimately looked like he was doing the right thing.

Not really, $20 is how much a copy is at max, its just a matter of finding it

It seems I was straight up fucking wrong.

It seems to be a surprise for everyone since earlier announcements did state Emi was not going to be returning. Halfway down this article it states during the Paris game interview Yoko confirmed Evans was not involved.

So is Yoko Taro damaged or a psychopath?

nier2.com/blog/2014/02/28/an-interview-with-yoko-taro-by-4gamer/

You tell me.

They are something inherited from the first game, they are not really new.

All's right in the world
I can feel the GOTY coming

you feel it too

Source? I remember Yoko saying brother was only made to apple to how japs like twink protagonists

Is the one he's holding for the first Nier?

Grimoire Nier uses Replicant Nier and Automata is branching off of Ending E which is from Grimoire Nier. You could argue everything is canon because of how the timeline works but only Replicant Nier gets Ending E.

Never mind. I'm a fucking idiot and couldn't see the white "2016" against the yellow stripe.

Then why the shit main theme? Oh well, I'll be grateful if that's the only qualm I'll have with the game.

well Im getting games for only postage or sometimes $5, so it seems a lot for me

nigga what the fuck are you smoking

Drakengard had good music. Nier is just really generic "ethereal" orchestral choir shit

Powerful hips on that broad
Artist has taste

Why not both?

Drakengard had mind raping music, Nier had the good music.

Fuck its finally a good time to get a PS4.

Nigga kill you'rself right now

Both had good music but NieR is the clear winner

It doesn't matter which is cannon since HE DOESNT EXIST user ;;

Calling it, endign had the brother die, switch places with the sister who is now pregnant with his creepy future incest child.

taro is my favorite insane developer

That or the final bosses are fucking rabbit people.

Because you know, Japan and the moon.

its yoko taro bro.

And yet still there isn't nearly enough tranny violent all-consumed Kaine herm porn as there should be, includign the lust consumed necrophilia and almost pegged a dude sex scenes.

The child is stillborn due to being born from asspussy but it's mind lives on Great old one style and is the next BBEG

Truly the deepest mpreg shota lore.

Is Grimoire Nier worth picking up? The Google Doc doesn't seem to have pictures or anything and it also doesn't feel quite right just reading all this off there anyway. I'm learning Japanese and while I don't think I'm at the level to read through it well I could probably get through most of the stuff with a dictionary at hand.

Drak 3 wasn't on PC

Drakengard 3 wasn't developed by Platinum.

How does that even work? His friend much have either giant balls or supertight/no pants.

Overhyped, but the trailer and footage looks to be better than the first game, so that's definitely good. Awaiting the release, so I can get a better idea of how the game is.

Give it time. I'll probably await a PC release myself, unless I actually decide to buy a PS4 next year. Probably won't happen, but only time will tell.

Any idea whose going to handle the localization or is it doomed to be in 8-4's hands?
