So I think he's trying to deflate their leverage against him through this half-assed symbolic measure, so that further calls for escalating war will sound crazy and Trump will seem like the cool-headed smart leader by not escalating into a full war.

It's a very risky move though and there's many ways it could go wrong, but I think it was probably the only move he could make given the situation he was in. We can't forget that this is essentially a cold civil war, and in any war you're going to lose some battles and lose some ground to the enemy. And sometimes you have to retreat to avoid even worse losses. But that's okay if you eventually win the war.

And I think we can help him win that war by continuing to use meme magic to sway public opinion away from escalating the war. Trump is looking for any excuse he can find to avoid war without looking like a Russian agent to the Democrats or an Obama-like weak leader to the Republicans. So let's try to give him that excuse by exposing the false flag and telling everyone why an escalated war would be a massive mistake.
