First source is basically talking about those photographs being taken on the airfield after the bombardment. Second source is just talking about russia's part in taking out chemical weapons of mass destruction.

Assuming for a moment that they are, and that the pic is real, they're empty and lying out in the open. If they had contained live ordinance before, it couldn't have been disposed of so quickly after the airstrike. It's possible that these were just lying around empty for a long-ass time. Nobody disputes that at some time in the past the Syrian gov't possessed chemical weapons.

Here's the thing though: we know for a fact that Syria did own chemical weapons in the past. Disposing of the chemicals does not necessarily mean disposing of the containers. Considering that base is in a pretty dry area and that they're painted with corrosive resistant paint, those cans could have been sitting there for 10-15 years. Or could have been used for something else entirely, given that Syria probably does not have a huge military budget and likely reuses stuff. A bunch of empty cans means nothing.

I think that the first part of the question for the post has been answered and to the best of our ability, we can reasonably conclude that the containers are, in fact, containers for chemical weapons. Whether or not they currently contain chemical weapons hasn't been proven. But regardless of that, the second part of the question is were these containers at the air base that Trump just bombed. I don't see any reason to think that the photo is not authentic, but can we prove that that photo was or was not taken at the air base (did anyone ever check the metadata?)
