Was complaining recently to my friend about Conan now being Marvel property.
He showed me what they did to his favorite, Lobo.
Why the fuck do these morons still wonder how they're not making any money?

DC actually thought that second panel was a good idea.. huh.

It's one thing to redesign a character that completely destroys what they are. It's especially fucking atrocious to shit all over the original while you do it.
Reminds me of a certain Devil May Cry scene. And the vidya journalists of that day still had the nerve to say fans were 'entitled' for not buying the game.

Well, at least DC came to their senses and changed the character back in Rebirth, and did a dis to the redesign in a Hal Jordan comic.

I'm surprised Lobo decided to join the JLI. Never figured he would do that.

Without Monster Hunter World, Capcom would be dead now for decisions like this. I refuse to play DMC to this day.

Oh, that was a fun one.

What happened to "voting with one's wallet"? Another videogame crash needs to happen.

Look what's happening with Gwenpool. Marvel is sitting on an empire of with that character. Plushes, books, cartoons, costumes, dakimakura, etc. You name it, they could be making bank on it. A gateway to the coveted anime market is theirs for the taking.

Yet, Marvel doesn't have a fucking clue what Hastings and Gurihiru are giving them, still shilling their crackwhore MEME version like old fossils. They're going to be completely blindsided when the book blows up in popularity after a few years.

I don't understand DC's obsession with glowing shit on their characters. It's annoying and distracting.

Let me guess, you didn't take the time to search that even DC realized it was a dumb idea and brought back regular Lobo. Also they went out their way to shit on this redesign too.

This. They sit on a gold mine if they knew which audience to aim for. It's massively appealing from the covers alone.

That's only after a years worth of issues and a fucking relaunch.

Still can't imagine why they thought this was a good idea
Why didn't they just make a new character?

Who could imagine it would be awful?

Because in comics, things don't work that way. Readers aren't the customer, the shops are. Everything in comics is done to con comic shops into buying non-returnable product with the promise of bringing in sales.

What fucking creator would dream up a new character only for it to be owned by a company that has an extremely long history of fucking their talent in the ass, when they can keep the character and publish it independently?

That's just a meme user

Why don't the shops stop buying bullshit that nobody will ever buy?

Because they don't know if anyone will buy it or not. Market research is non-existent in comic industry, so shops usually have to go with their gut and hope for the best. It's like gambling blind.

...

They were specifically talking about games, user.
Comics have an excuse, but with games it proves that the fucks pushing feel-good "diversity" don't actually care about numbers.

This board ain't about vidya. It's about comics and cartoons.

It was on-topic to mention it briefly. Are you the same faggot that cries about anime all the time?

They do, it's called going out of business. Modern comics are essentially a pyramid scheme.

we need the pic that shows pyschotic eyes.

Are you retarded? This is Holla Forums. We talk about comics and cartoons. If that makes you salty, you can go somewhere else.

It is a Tron Legacy leftover. Glowing lines for no reason used to be everywhere after the first trailer to that film premiered and started the hype.

Because big two can't make marketable characters anymore. Marvel's most recent popular character is Deadpool. As much as Leifield (and Niecieza too) is and was being shat on, he was still a better creator than almost anyone else working at Marvel today, because no character came even close to Deadpool or other A-listers in over two decades.
Sentry had some potential, but of course Bendis ran him into the ground.

DC is a little better, since Red Hood is their last noteworthy creation, but even then it's just two old character mashed together. Other than that, they have Harley Quinn, who is more or less DC's Deadpool, both in time she was created and role she plays in the universe at this point Let's hope that something good comes out of Dark Matter.

No, they just can't market for shit. As was pointed out here , Gwenpool could be raking in the dough, but they're too incompetent to take advantage of it. They do shit like that all the time.

We're at the point where the creators have to advertise the comic themselves because the publishers either can't or won't.

Dark Matter looks to be a rehash of Bloodlines, complete with Marvel expies.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAFUCKSPOILTHATSHITNIGGER

user, you're giving them too much credit. She wasn't even created by DC comics. She was created from an animated show, and she was popular enough that DC put her into the comics and subsequently shat all over her character to make her into Deadpool.
She's female so it's not quite the same, but she did generally speaking get the same treatment as Lobo. She went from a sexy and crazy villain who had always been terrible and literally fucked her way through college, to a lesbian who could physically beat up the Joker and who is now somehow a leading superhero. They even fucked up her original design into some monstrosity, too.
I also don't understand the insistence on turning her relationship with the Joker into a physically abusive one. He manipulated her and never truly loved her, but he was never shown to actually truly beat her or anything.

He knocked her out a window in Mad Love.

I thought about that right after I pressed reply, but I still think that's not really the same thing. He didn't consistently beat on her, he just wanted her out of the way and the abuse stemmed mainly from him manipulating her for his own gain.
The panel I first posted is from a comic that describes their relationship as inherently physically abusive, and she goes on about how he makes her violent and they had consistently go back and forth throwing punches. But that's not what the relationship was. There was no 'pounding eachother to a pulp.'

The comics incarnation of Harley Quinn is a vehicle for lesbian shippers who somehow got into the comics industry.

they are just good friends

...

Why?

This bothers me, too. If they wanted to rehash her so much, why not just go for her gymnast or psychologist background that existed before the Joker, and have her go by Harley Quinzel again or give her some new identity? I can't think of any names at the moment, but it'd be more interesting than what she currently is.

...

You're missing what I'm fucking saying, you faggot. Read
No one's saying it's not abusive. But it's not what they imply and he wasn't constantly shoving her out windows with her retaliating and shoving HIM out windows. He occasionally got physical when he got too angry but she was mostly a victim of manipulation and emotional abuse rather than physical. And she was certainly never physical back to him.

I fucking hate that DC insist on ruining Poison Ivy by shipping her with a nigger-tier character that is worth absolutely jack shit without being tied to The Joker.

Jesus. Who do you think would lose a stare-off? Probably by stabbing the other one?

...

Have you ever read the recent Harley Quinn solo titles? They're fucking terrible. Comedy comes from conflict. Conflict from different personalities, conflict between expectations and reality, conflict between people, etc. Well the Harley Quinn books have no conflict. Everything works out for Harley, leaving no opportunity for humor.

The perfect example of the book's lack of conflict is when they introduce Poison Ivy. Great comedy duo situation, right? Harley and Ivy's personalities clash for hilarious hi-jinx, right? Nope, they get along just fine because "lesbians".

The Harley Quinn comics are nothing but bland cheesecake for nerds too embarrassed to buy actual porn. The Worst part? Harley Quinn has already completely dominated Gwenpool. Harley Quinn ships 33,000 units a month. As of December, Gwenpool sold under 14,000 and is going to get canned next month. That fact alone is a reason for the entire industry to burn.

Thank you for that pic user.

For a minute I thought that was that movie reviewer chick.

I wonder if some chick would actually cosplay in that butthole Harleyquinn outfit.

I don't want to defend Faggylobo because it's clear DC thought this was a good idea and would work. But what if the character was introduced not as a replacement for Lobo, but as a play on how faggy current male characters are depicted? If the real Lobo was meant to parody 90's grimshit, could Soybo have worked as a silly [CURRENT YEAR] counterpart?

Something like he would expect any female character to handle a fight, was hyper passive aggressive, adverse to violence, etc.

That's the problem, he was that and people hated him. 90's Lobo, although a parody was parodying things that were ridiculous and fun. Thus, he was a fun over the top parody.

Huh. That's more retarded then I realized. I never got the feeling he was intended to be a parody.

Read a wiki or something kid.

Because they have no idea how to actually write characters. They want her to be a hero because she's the freshest idea they have, and she actually appeals to a demographic of people that are buying her comics. I have no problem with this, but they also don't want her to me in love with an abusive supervillain because that looks pretty bad on paper, but it's also the core of her character and why people liked her in the first place. Really, what they need to say is that one day The Joker just stopped showing up around her because he got bored and she's just doing her own thing while "Giving puddin' some space"

Yeah but this is kind of a consistent problem with parody in comics. It's the wild west effect. You can depict something as unpleasant or stupid as possible, but if you want it to sell you also have to make it entertaining, if it's entertaining people are going to like it, and once they like it they'll ignore the flaws you were parodying. Anyone who knows it's a parody just takes that as an excuse not to feel guilty about liking it, and anyone who liked it without knowing it was a parody obviously didn't feel guilty about liking it in the first place.

Take Judge Dredd: Dredd was a satire of the increasingly overbearing Thatcher government, with a bit of a jab the overblown machismo of pop action movies at the time. Essentially taking all the things people liked about them and saying "this is the logical conclusion of giving the government a bunch of unrestricted power and idealising repressed manly men who go around killing people at the slightest provocation. A dystopian future where civil servants firebomb your car for moving violations." Readers by and large didn't get it though. To the comic book audience of the day, it was just good clean fun. They identified with the main character because that's what you're supposed to do, and as time went on the idea of satire was abandoned and the dystopian setting ceased to be a commentary and became just the place Dredd lives.

Like Marshall Law. He started as a comically edgy satire on superheroes, even a satire on grimdark superhero comics themselves, but still with actual characters who you could relate to and feel for, and just kind of degenerated into parody, and then straight-up edgy superhero stories with no sense of self-awareness. Fucking crossovers with Hellraiser, The Mask, Savage Dragon, it was enough to make you want to puke.
I should storytime the original sometime, it really still is the best one. Well, the Marvel heroes story was good, but Law was even then kind of becoming a cliche instead of a character.

It's especially galling with Law because he only ever had the one writer, Pat Mills, so he doesn't have the excuse of later teams being retarded and not getting the joke.

And if you want to talk about killing the golden goose, destroying a popular character in favour of a version everybody hates…

It stopped being a satire when reality wouldn't stop trying to catch up to it.

Marshall Law stopped being satire when all the 90's heroes became as brutal as him. He was really a statement on politics inherent in Gold, Silver and Bronze age comics, once the Plastic Age began he wasn't even unusual.
Lord knows what he'd make of the self-absorbed narcissistic non-heroes of the… what are we in? Do we have a name for this comic Kali Yuga? Potato Age?

How about? Current Age

We can't call it that, what will we call it when it's over?

...

...

#HASHTAG Age

Marshal Law was never really satire. It was a superhero comic made grim and gritty, with the brutal main character being right and superheroes being very, very wrong. It's the 80's British invasion of American comics in it's purest form. The superheroes in the book are automatically evil by being superheroes. Superheroes motivations for unlawful acts are never given much more complexity than simple selfishness. Marshal Law's brutal methods are never called into question, not even indirectly. Worse yet, the book goes out of it's way to praise Marshal Law as the hero everyone deserves.

Even with all that, I wouldn't care if the book wasn't the most depressing God-damn thing you could ever read. The letters pages alone, with their gushing for the future of superhero comics embodied by Marshal Law, snuffs whatever hope you had in humanity. It's completely miserable, though Kevin O'Neil's art is nice at times.

Nice gay leather porn

Styrofoam Age.

The janitor here is beyond autistic. I got banned for going off topic in one thread, so all of my on topic posts in this thread get deleted too. This is probably the same faggot that made the Black Panther containment thread because he doesn't like being reminded that Africans used to be royalty at one point in time.

Current Age +1
An eternal reminder to the horrors, so we never ever will bitch again about comics. Of course, if they somehow, with some fucking miracle able to top this shitstained oversensitive ultra fuckfest then you doesn't need to worry about the new age name, because comics will be banned for causing lethal brain-damage, vomiting blood and terminal blindness. This board will be abandoned, cape movies will be turn into psychological weapons to torture autist kids, and the very paper what they would used to print that shit would be comapred to asbestos!

Fuck you!

How long ago did you read it? Most of the villains' motivations were at least explored. Public Spirit was driven by the need to appear perfect in public, Sleepman was raised by a psychotic mother, Virago was motivated by revenge and rejection, Gangreen was a victim of the same pressures on veterans of the Zone war that created Law himself, Private Eye was raised by abusive psychiatrists who used him as a test subject and kept him in a blindfold for years, Persecutor was a product of the same brutal military culture that created Law. The only non-crossover villains with no real motivation beyond survival were the Incubus, which I'm pretty sure was written as an Aliens crossover they lost the rights to.
Law's methods are called into question in the first series by his own girlfriend, who points out that he's the worst of them all. The villains are always calling him out on being worse than they are.
And Law does genuinely try to help people when he's not being a cunt. You notice he's never killed Gangreen, for all the times they fought. That's because they're both victims of the system. He didn't kill Overlord in the Dragon crossover, because he was TRYING TO BE NICE. In his secret identity, he's an orderly at a superhero rest home, cleaning up bedpans and drool.

"You can call me a faggot, call me a leather-clad Tinkerbell, just don't call me a sss… a sss… a sssupe… …that word."

Because its read by fans who Forget about the fact that its supposed to be satire, and starts getting written by them.

Simply put: The Judge system is dystopic and inefficient. Oh some people say

No it isn't. It's DEEPLY inefficient because it arrests people for inane stuff like having too many goldfishes to the point that people psychically start collectively committing suicide (And the Judges don't re-examine themselves afterward).

The Judges arrest people for being too HAPPY because their insane world. Resources that could be devoted to putting an end to any of their many monsters or much more serious criminals. In a way its a never ending Gerbil wheel.

Wow, that's a bunch of edgy bullshit. And very very convenient. There is nothing I hate more than convenient edge.

Which is why Dredd, and 40K and others like it all went to utter shit.

Spot on.

And in some ways Marshall Law's world makes more sense than a lot of capes. The whole "superhero" thing was propaganda and branding to try and sweeten human enhancement for a war in the Amazon basin, so they gave the supersoldiers masks and capes. And no-one in their right mind calls themselves a supervillain, so every vet from the war, plus all the "surplus heroes" who never became soldiers and often don't actually do anything at all, all call themselves heroes and have costumes and codenames, from mobsters and pimps and serial rapists and gangbangers and Nazis to normal civilians and homeless people and hookers, all "superheroes". Marshall Law's position as Hero Hunter is quite logical, even if his methods are extreme. But he only really goes overboard when it's personal, like the instructor who used him to demonstrate torture methods during training, or the hero who was harvesting his own kid sidekicks for organs to stay young.
