WHAT GAME

...

That shitty jurassic park fps probably

...

...

...

boku no dino

...

...

You probably mean fuckin awesome and not just for the time, it had a lot of cool shit that was never implemented properly.
A game like that with today's tech could be a masterpiece.

It is also the best dinosaurs game.

Yes, that's why it's shitty user

...

Was only shitty if you played it as it wanted to be played and not as '90s octodad.

...

...

> no nose except the Jewish one hiding behind the EA, Ubisoft, etc logo's

They were pushing the limits. I mean, it was made in 1997 and had some technical shit that today's devs use to let people see how techinically cool and interactive their shit is (and often times they can't even reach the level of Trespasser).
They had a good game and the atmosphere was top notch. It was scary as fuck and poetic at times.

Of course it had the worst framerate ever, it was hard and frustrating, but it was somewhat playable and remember that it was developed in 1997.
It had great ideas that picked today would offer a great gameplay experience.

Yeah, it was shitty but it also wasn't

...

I bet postal 2 has a mod for that though

...

this was good

What is trespasser. You newfags repeat memes that were debunked 20 years ago.

Not only it looks like shit, to see parts of your body in first person view, but it's also distracting as fuck. There is always a degree of abstraction in what you're seeing: you are not literally a camera in the character's eye, or you would see his eyelids and nose before legs & arms. To remove obstructing bodies is part of the show.

...

Wut gem

I agree to an extent, but in a game such as Mirror's edge for example, I believe seeing legs made it better

...

The only thing that's immediately coming to mind is Rinse & Repeat but that isn't a shooter.

...

...

(Checked)

Let's have a first person shooter, played from the perspective of a gun. You start your life fresh out of factory, bought by a kid who's your first love. He grows up and someone uses you to kill him, despite you jamming to stop him.

So you end up miserable and sold on ebay, as murder memorabilia. Years later, a detective picks you up to reopen the cold case (they never caught the guy). And you'll make sure to guide him to the culprit.

moded oblivion
That shit was great because of the boob physics.

...

Too bad that'll never happen since its the current year

Play Trespasser you pleb

encounter something taller than a curbstone, i need to find an alternative route

Not gargling Tyrone is intolerant, user. Be sure to check Polygon for the strategy guide to 100% the encounter!

my god, capeshit is retarded beyond down syndrome

Oh you

Wew, and then they say all mangas are just powerlevel dickwaving.

By they way, shouldn't Flash's Infinite Mass Punch destroy the universe or something?

How can a stylistic choice be "debunked"? Are you insane?

Anyway, most games where you can see your own legs aren't entirely realistic as well. Usually, when you look down, you can see your own torso as well, whereas games like Halo or Red Eclipse only let you see your legs alone. Only Trespasser and modded Oblivion let you look at your own chest (and I agree, it is a bit weird considering you don't have two eyes and depth perception is fucked).

We could argue the same about arms. "The game is an abstraction, user, you don't need those arms!", and it's true, you don't need them since they help nothing in aiming since first person camera views are rarely aligned with your actual crosshair, but they look well and help you give an idea of your character, the same way legs do.

I would argue the alternative, the floating torso/air swimmer syndrome, feels more confusing.

Do you have the one where he outruns death?

Sounds about right to me.

...

quads btw

You mean Trespassing, the remake project in CryEngine?

this tbh

Infinite mass i the base state of the universe, so yes its retarded

wouldn't everyone die?

yeah its nothing to lose your head over

Hey, the narrator only said they "materialized", they didn't say they survived.

grand theft auto 4

not being able to have that bird's eye makes the driving a lot more intense and unpredictable, at the least.

...

Jesus Christ i hate Console FPS games, fucking garbage all of them

...

If VR is good for anything it will be the killing of the poorly animated, arms only, 'first person view' character models of talentless, lazy game developers.

the visual images i get from this are hilarious

...

uhh mental

The reason devs don't do that is they believe it to be immersion breaking because the player looks down and sees legs that are not their own.

...

...

But arms are fine?

...

Is Arma the only game to do fps right. You can literally look over your shoulder

Holy shit

...

What game?

...

...

Check 'em

That actually sounds great.

well done

(checked)
I'd play it

This is the mark of an actual idea's guy. Fresh, innovative, powerful imagery, and wouldn't be constrained by a small budget.

The Flash's power comes from an alternate dimension made of speed called The Speedforce. It is sentient and gives speedsters their powers, and the various secondary powers necessary for them to work. For example, it's why Flash doesn't disintegrate or burst into flames due to air friction. It's also why anything else that doesn't make sense does make sense.

Makes me even more sad that Battleborn was just a MOBA instead of something better. I could look down and see my body doing things and it was cool.
Outlast had that, too and playing it with cardboard really makes this great.

...

also happens in Planetside 2
very irritating as a light assault having an enemy in your crotch blind spot

That sounds neat, but how would you guide the detective as a gun?

take note art graduates, this is how you do it

By shooting at things. Duh.

Still waiting for another Dino Crisis… but it seems that will be the new Liru a Never Ever

My math is shit but only see two aborted trips.
those floating hands.
Lets see, swerves everywhere, hit and run's, finally knocking over something. Sounds about right.

wasn't that project dead years ago?

Like Ghost Trick, but as a gun

The gun makes for another sets of eyes during the investigation, so to speak, and watches after the detective's back. Literally, she has perfect eyesight and precisely spots motion\patterns.

So it might happen that the detective hit a dead end, and is sitting defeated at his desk chain smoking: the gun slightly tilts over a paper, highlighting a line with the barrel that suddenly sparks the guy's interest. Or he's about to be ambushed at home, gun still holstered in his coat thrown about, and she pulls the hammer soundly so he can hear the danger.

Now, these are mostly Ghost Trick events to steer the story, but generally the game is a shooter\adventure hybrid. When you're shooting up the place, you're really a sort of Max Payne with more powers (Prey?) that are really the gun helping.

It is revealed that the murderer is a lawyer and outspoken gun-control activist, whose motto is that guns kill people. And with quite a few kinky interests that come up as you dig up dirt on him. He was in the flashbacks at the beginning of the game; one of the young men in your owner's circle of friends. More than that as an adult he had come out to him, but got refused: which sparked the fit of rage where he grabbed the gun and killed him ("you" had jammed, but he pistol-whipped his skull in).

In the finale, the same is about to happen again: bastard wiped the floor with the detective, he's about to execute him with the gun. But you sacrifice yourself, obstructing the chamber so to wound his hand and give the detective his chance.

The game's name is Guardian, from a speech given by the kid's father in the flashback, about using guns only to protect those you loved. Which in the finale, is replayed as if it was spoken by the gun itself. The gun's name is Angel.

Stopped reading.

...

So in the shooting scenes, do you control the detective or are you still the gun (and it plays like a rail shooter/you're the gunner of a tank)

No one likes being stuck on rails, even though good railshooters do exist. So you would have to move the detective still, but emphasize they're different entities.

Visually, the camera would build up on the eery feeling that in first person shooters you're just an arm with a gun. Like making reloading a very autistic moment, with a huge zoom on the gun and the feeling you're completely open and exposed. Black had lots of self-centered gun porn animations.

Gameplay wise, consider the switch between movement and aiming in a Resident Evil game. It's almost as if Leon was the "vehicle mode" of the matilda pistol he's carrying. Particular scenarios to reinforce the feeling:

- Detective drops the gun: you are incapacitated until someone picks you up;

- If an enemy picks you up, you can make him miss or ricochet to fuck him up;

- Detective would throw magazines to lure enemies with sound, but "you" can actually use those as remote cameras;

- Lots of the gun's own skills, would be third person powers that the detective could have possibly no role in. Think some Blade Runner computer shit, where the gun calculates reflections and shadows in the room to extrapolate enemy positions and trajectory of special shots;

This a bit risky, but let's try. You're not the one actually pulling the trigger: the detective is. This doesn't mean the gun won't shoot when you press the joypad: it's just that you ALLOWED the detective to shoot, at the same time as you clicked. It might happen that he tried to shoot, but you didn't press anything so the gun just clicked. This might be used in a friendly fire scenario, and the guy would still believe he got lucky or didn't pull strong enough.

epic template thread OP

There is a logic to it, but people are shit at wording what they mean.

Thing is, it normally doesn't bother people when you don't see your legs when playing game, same way it doesn't normally bother people when objects you pick up just instantly disappear without any kind of pick up animation.

People only notice this shit when devs actually try to do something about it. Upon which things will start looking incredibly fake because it's actually very hard to believably animate from the the first person perspective. Especially when a lot of the movements made by an FPS protagonist, such as strafing actually looks very unnatural.

FEAR solved this issue by doing the obvious thing that every dev and his manager ignores because 'm-muh motion sickness', which is properly modelling the player instead of making them a floating camera with some body parts super imposed on top. We'll be in the dreamland when the very concept of viewmodel/worldmodel is ditched.

This could be tied to AoS' bizarre rendering techniques. The warping issues got worse and worse the closer to up and down you got, I imagine the rendering would just break and you'd get either infinitely warped voxels, or just cause a divide by zero if you were looking either directly up or down.

...

...

Imagine how fast that thing could cartwheel

...

...

Jesus christ, that's some valve-tier shit logic.

Imagine how great this thing would formed swastika.

...

Skyrim with the enhanced camera mod, though there is likely also one of these for FO3/NV and Oblivion.

He'd actually be going faster than light to go over that distance that many times in that short of a time

...

There is. nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/55334/

This sound pretty great, would play.

...

...

At least this isn't a thread dedicated to these retarded concepts

...

That shit'd be awesome:
