I can't decide. Venusaur is really cool, and I love Slowbro as well, and Exeggutor is another favorite of mine. I've always kind of liked Ludicolo a bit as well.
Grew up with Gen 3 but my favorites have to be 1 and 2 for the comfy 90's anime designs. Gen 1 had a little bit of streetpunk while Gen 2 had a little bit of a traditional Japanese touch. Gen 3 is still really good but it's sort of a transition between old Pokemon and new Pokemon, which, is maybe one of the reasons why it's kind of cool. It's super unique.

There's something I like about all gens, it's just that I feel like the first two have a certain magic to them. I prefer Gen 1 more than 2, generally, but 2 is still really nice to me.

I'm not really sure honestly. I've always liked swapping around Pokemon a ton and creating new teams from the ones I have. I always love to incorporate my favorites into my teams though, so it's not uncommon to see me throw an Ampharos, Slowbro, Venusaur, Exeggcutor, Dusclops, or maybe even a Torterra or into my team.

Anyways off of the main topic. I've always liked Pokemon but I can't help and feel that with ORAS it's gotten a little stale. It's sort of a shame to see my original Pokemon game get turned into something so shallow with the only remake it's only ever going to get.

They said Sun and Moon will be taking the series in a new direction and, hey, the starter designs look fairly alright. They've taken the art style in a different direction and they have been forever but there have been some Pokemon that I've adored despite not really fitting into what I consider Pokemon to be. Rowlet looks like he could be based when he evolves though and he already looks fairly rad. With only a few design touch-ups and changes they could be perfect, to me, at least.

Here's to hoping that it's gonna be fun, eh? I've already mostly jumped ship to Monster Hunter as nearly every design is really cool and the gameplay is deep, and very satisfying. I'm willing to go venture off back to Pokemon a bit if the games are really amazing, though.

Gonna be honest, I don't think these are very "pokemon" in design. They remind me more of Yokai-Watch with the fire starter, and the water one looks like the angel dog from All Dogs go to Heaven.

They also don't look as marketable. Pokemon appeals to 10 year old kids first and foremost. I don't see them ever making a starter super girly like that, they usually end up masculine badasses. The last starter we had that could be remotely considered girly was Meganium back in Gen 2, and even he was more ambiguous.

I know saying "it doesn't look like a Pokemon" is a stupid excuse, but it's the best I can think of why I think these are legit and those are fake. These take the starters in a different, but still reasonable direction. Popplio becomes a clown strongman. Rowlet becomes an Owl Assassin. Litten becomes a Puma Cannon. They're marketable, they're clever, and they're something I could see Game Freak taking the starters in the direction of.

Also, lately Game Freak has been pushing unity between the starters. Gen IV had a myth theme, Gen V had a royalty theme, Gen VI had an RPG Class theme. With these, the theme is of a Circus, with Popplio's being obvious clown strongman, Rowlet being a Knifethrower Acrobat, and Litten being the Large Cat Cannon. Not really seeing a theme with those guys.
