It wouldn't be called inverted if it were interpreting mouse movements directly. Superimpose your mousepad onto the same x/y axes as your screen, and consider how the view should pan in response to the mouse.

The inverted vs non-inverted argument is the stupidest fucking arbitrary shit I've ever heard about video games.

Every movement is literally the same exact movement but in the opposite direction. This means that when you get used to it, it's exactly the same efficiency. It makes no difference in skill, technique, or performance. It's 100% arbitrary.

Though there are games with storylines that have very high replayability, such as any game from the Souls series. It's more so just that games with heavy focus on the story tend to take away factors that add more to the game when you play it again, such as secrets, good level design, gameplay, etc.
