Devilman Crybaby was everything an adaption should strive to be but why does Netflix keep focusing on anime? Im pretty sure Todd Mcfarlane would kill to get another Spawn cartoon akin to the HBO mini series. Yet netflix adult cartoons are usually comedies I mean yeah some of them are alright but most of them fall flat.
Is Western animation doomed to dick and poor jokes for ever?
Leo Cook
Castlevania was made by westerners and Netflix are apparently making an Assassins Creed cartoon but I know this board has alot of Holla Forums and Holla Forums cross posters and they hate those 2 things for very autistic reasons.

Econfag here. It all comes down to Supply and demand. Netflix does not and cannot have the capital to invest in the production of animation, especially new IPs with high production value. They fund anime production because the costs for it are significantly reduced compared to the costs of producing a western animated work.
Netflix's business model is essentially central planning, and like communism it will collapse. Why? Because Netflix's shows and movies are not self-sufficient, they rely on the continued viewership of subscribers to justify their existence. They don't pay for themselves, they're reliant on Netflix subscriptions for funding; But how do you fund high quality content with one centralized source of revenue? You can't. And Netflix can't get the information they need to allocate capital and resources effectively.
In any other industry, you'd allocate capital based on the supply and demand of your goods and services. If one product is running at a loss, you cease its production, if another product out preforms, you dedicate capital to improving it, and the capital in question comes from the individual profits of goods and services. Netflix doesn't have price signals, and its one source of profit can't communicate the amount of capital to be allocated nor effectively cater to the individual interests of subscribers.
When you have very little, you can only afford shit, and Netflix will only ever afford shit until their subscriptions dry up and force them to go bankrupt, leaving an actual content platform (Gog/Steam of animation) to fill in the coming power vacuum.

They're hardly focused on anime. They're splurging cash to either produce exclusive content or to get the streaming rights to whatever they can get their hands on (that Jaden Smith "anime" was supposedly meant for Fox's ADHD and was already done, they just bought the rights to it). Co-producing anime is just another means to an end (more subscriptions) Unfortunately. Comedies are just easier to pitch, market, and sustain. Action cartoons are a pretty hard sell all around if the risk isn't mitigated by some other factor (part of an existing franchise, dependent on toy sales, etc.)

I wouldn't it exactly call it saving more a monkey's paw kind of thing imo

There are a lot of cartoons, and some anime made by Netflix, so really it is part of the industry.

In case of Castlevania cartoon, it's because new cartoon is not very good. It's biggest sin is that is shits all over the games story and lore, turning the whole structure on its head in favor of political messages that are in vogue right now. In the game series, Catholic church is a good organization, fighting evil monsters like Dracula. In cartoon, it's the church who is really evil, which is just an overused and boring cliche at this point.
As to the games, it's because they are both epitomes of wasted potential. Castlevania used to be good, but latest games have been mediocre at best. Assassin's Creed was a promising franchise, only to be turned into a buggy, repetitive games with combat that boils down to mashing one button. AC's progressively shittier writing and progressively less effort going into recreating historical locations doesn't help either.
First episode wasn't too bad.
Cooper Gray
nigga what the only good thing about AC is the settings its the only amount of care in those games

Tells you a lot about the Japanese and western perceptions of Christianity
Jack Morris
Well the Japanese were nice enough to let Jesus hang out, and even buried him after his death.
Sebastian Thompson
Jeez they really fuck around a lot with history don't they? Probably should've done the first 2 games and ended it there.

Japan really has to force their country into everything, doesn't it? Makes sense considering their main religion for a long time was essentially 'Japan was created by the gods and the only place that ever matters.' How the hell do they think a man in the Middle East made two treks to Japan in his lifetime that are conveniently never mentioned in the bible?

…L being black was literally only like 1% of what was wrong with that piece of shit movie.

Is Ryuk the only good thing in that adaptation? At least that's what I heard.
