In fact, the first goddamned thing that got me to actually stay in her class despite literally having a personality that I hate is that she said first thing when someone even SAID "art style" and that was (paraphrased, it's been a year):

"You don't WANT to have an art style because you'll become unable to draw outside it. In this class, we're going to break you down to the basics and then using that knowledge of basic techniques (she taught perspective and capturing form by just thinking about the lines you need to make instead of the whole object) you're going to evolve from there."

She didn't teach me about potatos, she taught me how to keep a good looking relationship and how to fucking draw shit you thought of in your head by simply having a hands off approach and reigning in your shit when it is shitty as fuck.

Basically appealing to the instincts of the creative side of the brain, the emotional side and from that I saw some Van Gogh shit if not from me, but from near everyone in that class as a result. It was also partly psychological, because the points of these exercises also encouraged people to become more confident in their work because others critiqued eachother and that opens you eyes to the beauty of what you thought was never enough.

What this calarts style is doing is literally doing it backwards, it's BUILDING a style without teaching any basics, which should not even BE a thing, because you're essentially homogenizing art, which is the opposite of what art is. You're also teaching kids to be shit artists by having a bad attitude by convincing them they can do no wrong so long as they adhere to the "style", that the style is infallible.

This isn't a fucking art program, it's a brainwashing program, to make kids easier to control.

In the old days, they didn't teach styles, they taught realism. And even then, the art was all about improving technique and creating paints, new tools, more effective means of work to capture and portray beauty. It was almost exactly how science must be to advance technological progress.

While it's no real education, these threads whenever they go into shitty artists at least show me the hows better than whatever college these pansy fucks went to.

The most complex-looking thing these people want to make are anime knockoffs, which is not saying a lot considering how butthurt the left gets about Japan in general, so instead they go after anime-imitating stuff or stuff like Scott Pilgrim and Adventure Time.

It hurts a lot more when you realize that these people are not just drawing for simple fun or expression, but to make money, and the easiest way for an inferior artist to make money is to either hide the fact that better suppliers of art exist, or to indirectly remove them by influencing the entire medium into adopting an obsession towards inferior art. It hurts because you know that it's harder to catch and kill bad habits than it is to develop good ones.

From a technical, philisophical, or social standpoint I don't see how people can just get tired or loathing of realistic-looking art or art depicting scenes, fictional or real, unless they have a natural opposition to such art, or if people are just afraid of being called a nerd in public if they can describe what they're seeing with more than two syllables. It can get a little old if you look at that sort of stuff a lot within a short period of time, but anyone who suggests that post-modernism is the ideal alternative or what we should strive for should have the entire surface of his head bitchslapped.

Every person born who will later create art will end up having to reinvent the wheel. This is to be expected no matter the time period, but with the improved ability for people to communicate and distribute information, reinventing the wheel should be easier and faster than ever. They found cults around simple objects that cause environmental damage (tote bags).
Their city government cares nothing for the environment (bulldozing a bear cave, police shitting on consumer fraud investigation).

That's what comes to mind off the top of my head anyways. I like the series; it's definitely the top of whatever crap came out this year.
