Also does anyone knows what are some good bows, hammers, and sword and shields to use in MHX?

Seregios stuff is pretty good if you play aerial or just dodge a lot.

Just started using the Charge Blade. It's a bit complicated but nice.
Should I focus on doing super bursts? I find myself with 5 phials and red glowing a lot, because I like sword mode. Should I be using the stab -> shield thrust -> super burst as much as I can, or is that better used as an ultra burst?
Also I've noticed there's a lot of swinging in it's moveset, are there any moves I should avoid while playing online so I don't nuke everyone?

Mostly avoid ultra bursts around teammates, they can fuck up everyone's shit. The second A combo in the axe mode too, since it's such a wide swing it can get annoying.

If it takes forever, I'll wait forever!

3ds emulation soon, fellow stalker.

Why is that MHX .cia so different in size from the one on Mega3DS?

No clue. It's english patched, but that shouldn't be that much more.

I think the other one is english patched as well. How big is yours when it's unpacked?

Don't remember, I got it from 3dsiso. It works, at least.

I have MHGenerations pre-ordered now though

what firm are you on? 11.0?

KB+M possible?

I have CFW and I play 4U online. The only reason I'm migrating to Cross is because 4U is fucking dead even on halfchan.

What mon would you pat?

Melynx
Royal Ludroth

yeah, I'm on 11.0

I didn't think you'd still be able to play online/use eShop after installing CFW

Nah, you can famalam. I got the Link Between Worlds 3DS and was able to redeem my game code through the eShop after getting CFW installed and working. Yes, I realize I could've just installed the .cia, but sometimes doing things legit is fun too.

...

hm. Will the OoT + Powersave method work on 11.0?

Yes, but you can't downgrade, therefore you can't CFW.

shiet

I know I know…..

I wanted nothing but good things for you, amigo.

>spoiling kitty
Is there something I should know about, user?

I know. I disappointed even myself. It's made worse ten-fold because when 3DS CFW had just become a thing, I actually had it on my 3DS using the IronHax exploit. But I was like "eh, we'll never get piracy since smegmum is such a faggot. And the only thing going here is a shitty portal game and custom themes that are a bitch to mess with." So I deleted the CFW files off my 3DS and deleted IronFall as well.

I wish I could go back and kick myself in the shins for being such a fucktard

It's ok. I just updated my Vita to the latest version and I'll probably regret it at some point.

Vita will never get anywhere with CFW beyond what little there is for PSP/PSX stuff. Sony releases updates too often that bar you from using PSN at all. Maybe if there had been more time before Sony released those updates that were required to be online, or if maybe they just weren't so afraid of piracy in the first place. Hell, that's half the reason the PSP did so damned well in the first place.

polite sage for off topic.

bump

Do it Capcom. You know you want to.

4U isn't dead it's just full of scrub carried players who think they can roll with the 140 monsters punches without end game sets and their 56k modem connections that turn games into "magical teleporting Teostra hunter" if they go into the area 1st.

:^)

Anyone want to party up in MHX?

So…

Does installing CFW let you use eshop and play online without being nagged to update the console?

Installing CFW allows you to safely update your console and play online. Yes.
Do not update from update nags though as something bad might happen according to the 3ds threads.

If you're still around then yeah sure.

Just got back home from getting food.
Give me a few and I'll open up a room.

So in 4U, what's a good G rank set to go after for Funlance? I was thinking Seltas X for good artillery, but Guardian X gives same but has slightly less defense but it just takes token as opposed to S.Queen bits to make.

Also for defense skills I should be looking for Guard Up since my defensive leap is pretty shit compared to normal lance?

No rank restriction, but I am HR5 right now.

oh yeah, the passcode is 8888

Sorry guys I gotta go, I'll be back soon

Room got disbanded due to my crap internet. I'll try again later.

das it mane

Hi guys, started playing MH4U today, never played a MH before, kind of lost…
During quests how am I supposed to know which monster is "kelbi" for example when it says "kill 4 kelbi" am I supposed to kill mobs until I find the right one? Is there a way to know on the map where to find them? Also I didn't find how to bring my cat with me

I once got extremely lucky and killed a basarios with a stone i threw at it so it got out of the ground.

Either page through the quest description when accepting and find the icon for it or press menu>hunter notes>monsters then look for it and it will show a drawing resembling it with the name of it attached. And no they don't show up on the map unless you tag them first with a paintball. Finding something you need to hunt is half the fun.
Until you memories the map/spawn points anyway.

Oh about the cat. IF you unlocked the ace palico, go back to your room, and there should be a blackboard in the back. Go to it, then set your palico to deploy status

Kelbis are those deers that jump around. From my experience they always drop horns if you hit them with a hammer, or the butt of a bowgun, so if they refuse to drop horns try that.

Thanks but keblis were an example, just wanted to know if I had to learn the monsters by myself or if you could check somewhere in the game which monster = the name they give you in the quests

You'll need to buy those cheap as fuck guides in shops to keep it updated, so you just know.

which NPC sells them?

You can buy monster info from the chunky black woman vendor.

The one which sells potions and general stuff. in the first town it's the in the back. They always appear on the last pages so just skim through. They are somewhere between 100-500z usually.

Thanks a lot, last question, I have fuck tons of items but I'm afraid to sell anything that might be useful later, what is safe to sell?

eggs.

SELL THE EGGS MOTEHRFUCKER.

Any tips for the G2 quest "Fire Drill" in MH4U? It's the only key stopping me from getting to G3, and I at least want to get there before X comes out.

Goldfish or steel/other eggs are the safest bet.
If you really need money, just go through your item boy and even the numbers out on expensive items (like 200z a piece) And it'll add up.

in my experience you'll rarely need more than 20 of 1 material so sell everything down to that.

as long as it isn't Iron Ore or Earth Crystals, follow this user's advice

You can always sell old equipment and weapons. If you've built up a lot of rusted weapons by mining, you can sell those too. Nothing fills an empty wallet like selling 20 rusted lances.

Anyone played Online? How do you like it? Does it have a solid single player or is it balanced for online? Did they change any weapons or other mechanics? Are there any issues playing from the US?

Is sleep the most elusive status to get on a relic SA?
I have only ever seen ONE person with a sleep relic SA (Deluge).

Finally got a 3 soc Para SA with waxglare sharpness (slightly longer white).
I am now free from the 3 soc Chammy and Dala SA.
Feeeels guuuuuuud mane.

I keep getting max raw SA relics with sharpness pattern 7 (the really big purple with S+1 one), but they never get status/element. Feels bad.

Is Jaggi/Wroggi/Baggi in X/Generations?

No Monster List i have seen have had them but also had notions that they are incomplete.

I like them better then Dromes.

The Greats are unfortunately not in the game, but I hope they are soon added to the Ultimate edition.

Agreed, and i'm confused why newer MH games are apparently abandoning them in favour of the Dromes.

4U made it clear that the Great Whatevers are so much better - the animation is fluid, the hitboxes make sense, and so on. The dromes are clearly from earlier incarnations where that stuff was a lot shakier- their physiology makes far less sense (goddamn Iodrome and its pencil-thin neck), they do a silly hopping animation instead of turning, and they bounce around erratically like they're springloaded.

My problem with the Dromes is that they were mixed with the Greats. All one has to do is just look at them for even a second and the huge artstyle difference makes one or the other feel uncanny. As someone who was around for the 2nd gen when it was relevant, it just feels so odd to see (some of) them back. It'd be like if the next Gran Turismo had a Model T or something as a legitimate lineup.

But yeah the returning 1st and 2nd gen monsters in 4U show a distinct gap in quality. They didn't transition terribly well and you can feel this in both the lackluster textures and poor hitboxes/animations.

REMOVE SPRING RAPTORS

Also bring back Diablos what did he ever do to deserve getting replaced by Cephadrome? Nobody likes Cephadrome either.

Gravios can stay gone.

Ultimate edition is unlikely.

Probably not sooh enough that Monster Hunter is viable but when it happens it'll be great. A year or two before Citra gets to the point where you can play reliably without a supercomputer.

Alright Holla Forums I've had it, after all this time I've realized that I've never actually gotten gud at dodging through monster's attacks. How can I rectify this. Seriously I've put like 200 hours into this game and haven't gotten close to mastering basic ideas like dodging through attacks.

So what are some ways I can just get some straight up practice at dodging attacks, I hear that Zinogre is good because it has clearly telegraphed attacks should I just go at LR or HR Zinogre until I get half decent at dealing with monster's attacks?

I was thinking of making a plus 3 evasion set to sort of carry me through G rank until I get myself together

I get that MHX is the new hotness but I'm hosting a room if anyone wants to do some 4U hunts still ID is 19-5465-3589-4328pass is 0711

Ah scratch that I don't think my connection is good enough for me to host a private room, so I'll just ask if anyone is hosting.

W8 they removed diablos?
Did they remove other stuff too?

Dalamadur can stay away, but Diablos is so typical.
I'm also hoping they add a multiplayer White Monoblos this time, along with weapons with WMono parts no white monoblos tail drop? Seriously?

Deviljho has great hitboxes and telegraphs, practice on him.

What weapon do you use and what mons give you trouble?
I heard IG is bad for dodging wiverns, expecially Gore magala

In 4U I main Charge Blade mostly, but I've been trying to experiment with stuff like hammers which sort of require you to be in an enemies face to use it effectively.

Monsters, that give me trouble are things like Tigrex, and Seregios. Really anything that's particularly fast and aggressive tends to slap my shit in which is just really noticeable on G-rank since you really have to avoid attacks. Even more so if you try to solo G-rank guild quests

If it's only a couple bosses that kick your shit in its a good idea to main two weapons, the second one to mostly kill those two bosses.
S&S is my personal suggestion for those two, but hammer is very good itself.

Really it's just anything that's super aggressive tends to kick my shit in, I mean G-rank monsters outside of the basic bitch stuff like Testucabara tend to pound my face in.

Do not sexualize the monhun loli.

I can't wait for porn of the blonde from the plaza in X.

Well anyone has problems with that.
Don't blame yourself if you can't solo the multiplayer, that is supposed to be for two people anyway and doing it solo is a form of autism.
But if you're determinate enough you can do w/e

I want to get into the Monster Hunter series, where should I start?

If you have a 3ds, MH4u is the current gen title and the cumulative best. If you're willing to wait a bit, MHGen is coming out July 15th.

If you have a PC, psvita, psp, you can emulate/play MHFreedom Unite or MH Portable 3rd HD,

Am i the only One to be excited to fight great maccau?

don't forget if you CFW your 3ds, you can try out MHX immanently.

I got dc'd but thanks for the lift, b-boy

Great maccau is fun but also annoying as fuck.

You are 100% retarded considering you could have just played with them on updated CFW.

It's just a more annoying Great Jaggi with awful moves. They need to stop adding attacks that are just the monster moving from one end of the room to the other.

I find it kind of funny that the gamuto, a giant fucking mammoth looking motherfucker, doesn't have a move around the room attack, yet a tiny wyvern has one.

I cant use any of the fast weapons for the life of me. I can use them alright but if I'm actually any use on the toughest bosses i'm only good when GS or Hammer
I hate being fast and speedy, prefer slow but extremely powerful attacks
Should I force myself to learn the other weapon types or stick to good old Greatsword

Find a comfort zone and stick to it. You can usually find your waifuweapon pretty early on, though there are some that have to grow on you like kinsects.

I did get really good with the charge blade once, then stopped playing and forgot how to do all the amazing combos and charging specials
I didnt see why everyone complained about it being complicated to use properly

Try the Switch Axe. It's slow and powerful, but you have to focus on multiple smaller hits. It sounds like a downgrade but Dash Juice + downed monster gives you the opportunity to really fuck shit up.
Alternatively try the Sword and Shield. It looks like a shitty Charge Blade but it can do insane things no other weapon can. You can jump attack while climbing up ledges as well as jumping down, use items with your weapon drawn and the damage output is great because you can be much more reckless.

yeah I like Sword and Board but the switch axe is trash, I hate it and playing it

There's no Monoblos either. MHX is blosless.

Don't you need to be updated to play online?

3ds cfw is a thing and it allows you to update safely without fucking yourself over.
sage for off topic.

Ah, I just have a JP 3DS, so no need for CFW, fair enough.

user you should still cfw your 3ds, it's fucking easy as shit at this point, and even without piracy it's helpful.
You can record video without a capture card if you have a n3ds, shit quality though

That's cool, I should check it out sometime if I ever get into video capture

You should be able to do a lot of content solo, and there's the cat companion thing. Tencent welcomes the still lacking english patch and foreigners, but there's the occasional connection hiccup. Weapons seem to be freedom unite+extra attacks which include dumb specials. Practically forced story missions that are complete garbage with zero difficulty and unskippable cutscenes, but don't take up much time. Overall, worth playing but it feels very off. Looks really nice, though. Supposedly you can trade in game currency for cash shop points and it's not particularly p2w. You are limited to 10 quests per day, but can use in game currency/items to override that.

The Raths are some of the worst offenders for just constantly spamming their walk attacks. That and their gentle turning motions knock you the fuck over. Gogmazios doesn't even do that and he's the size of a town. They also have some of the longest wing flap stuns in the game. Both of the Raths and their variations highlight everything wrong in these games and are almost always needed for the best fire and poison weapons in the game.

You just summed up my feelings towards raths, but I have to say they come from an era of gaming where technology was still developing, thus being annoying was most of what they could do to make them strong.
Then they kinda "stuck".

Don't forget that they've sunk into the habit of locking end-game Metal Raths (which are needed to fully upgrade said best fire weapons in the game) behind DLC. Sure it's free DLC, but that shit still gets released like 4 months after the game comes out.

thanks user, sounds like it's worth a play

Playing Monster Hunter freedom. Started yesterday, stuck on the Yian Kut-Ku. I don't even understand what I could do to improve chances of winning further. Wanted to try and beat it without upgrading my Bone Hammer, but I think I just don't have the damage without. Also, movement feels slow and clunky.

just downloaded MH4U on my n3DS.

this is my first mon hun. Please teach me how to get gud.

post a hall m8, I'll teach ya.

The game starts you off with a simple tutorial for movement. You should find it easier with the n3DS's nub, so don't worry about clawing or anything.
When you finally start the game you're given one of every weapon, so try them out. There are 14 types in total, and they're all viable.

Light bowgun, heavy bowgun, bow.
Insect Glaive and Gunlance can kinda do range but it's not the point of the weapons
Hammer, Greatsword
Dual Blades, Switch Axe, Long Sword, Insect Glaive
Hunting horn
Sword & Shield can technically do support as well but only lategame
Switch Axe, Gunlance, Bowguns and bow
Lance, Gunlance, Charge Blade
Charge Blade, Switch Axe

When you fight a monster don't draw your weapons. Just look at it, see how it fights, and dodge around a bit. There's a very generous time limit, so don't worry about running out. Once you get the hang of things start fighting it.
Most important thing is to read the Hunter's Notes. It's in the menu, and goes over the basics in case you forget.

The problem is that LBG and HBG take until End High-Early G to come into their own.
I never dicked around with bow aside from the typical kelbi bow for 4 pack mentallity in 3

The bowguns are viable in low rank if you put effort into learning them. All you'll get out of it is some positioning skill though, so for newer players the blademaster weapons are better. The biggest issue with bowgunning in low rank is having to buy ammo, because you will run out during hunts and replacing those shots isn't cheap. Also elemental gunning is harder if you don't have access to the element you want. The shield for the HBG is actually useful for some solo hunts. If Gore Magala starts charging at you at the lower floor of zone 8 Ancestral Steppe you're usually fucked
The bow offsets all the issues the bowguns have in low rank, although they're pretty low damage. The only problem is that the controls are shit, so it takes some getting used to. The trick is:
Alternatively stand still and use the Dpad to aim. You leave yourself open if you can't claw, but if your thumb is sweaty it's much easier to aim with than the nub.

I mean going fresh into an LBG/HBG is the worst thing you could do. Not only do you not have access to the proper elements, you won't know which is which, the Raw on HBGs isn't high enough and you're gonna be pissing through money for ammo.

Goddamn; finally beat the Yian Kut-Ku. All it fucking took was upgrading the Bone Knife 4 or so times. God, how I hated that overgrown chicken.

Are these good dual blade skills? I'm going for the aerial style but I don't think I can fit any other skills.
Also are there any ways to edit in talismans for MHX? I really hate the RNG aspect of them.

Today is a productive day in 4U, I've continued expanding my fetishistic attraction to the Gunlance and having finished my Stygian Zinogre and Kush ones am now making the final steps on the S.Rathian one so I can have all three styles of Funlance.
Definitely have to say I'm feeling like Burst is a lot more helpful against big assholes, but I do enjoy how each style emphasizes different tactics. I hope what happened to them in X isn't as much as a fuckup as people have been telling me.

Is it possible to beat the bubble dragon that shows up in the three star bulldrome quest? I really want to give it a go, but both his laser and tail slam are instant death in my current gear.

I just can't get excited for this shit after 4U. I played the English patched version around the time it first came out for quite awhile, but no G rank really puts a damper on the fun of it all. Why would they take such a step backwards?

Tama, like all of the Heavenly Kings, is beatable in his initial appearance, but it might not be worth the effort - I estimate they each have about double their normal health, considering each of them I managed to kill in half the time with the same equipment in their "real" quests.

What do you mean? Every new Monster Hunter launches without G Rank, it's just something they add in later on if at all.

...

Garuga is fun on it's own, but fuck finding one in an expedition.

Apparently we could've gotten two new weapon types in MHX.

There was going to be a dog companion gunners could use and a giant boomerang with combos.

...

MHO is okay at best. It has so many changes in unnecessary places that it feels like chinese knock off of MH. Oh wait, it kind of is that.

If you can handle getting through all the shit it needs to make the account and install and you have played other main series MH games, it is kind of worth trying.

Lvls 30-40 is basically killing the same 3 monsters over and over though. Which reminds me that the low rank is painfully long because of the shit story element that is made with shit quests.

The servers are shit too. I can play any other foreign game with decent ping. MHO gives 300 ping at minimum and spikes up to 2k at peak hours- And sometimes the ping causes you to have infinite loading screens, or the quest hunts just don't start. So rebooting the game every few hours is to be expected.

It would be 6/10 game if it didn't have technical problems.

Maybe in MH5u.

yeah there is, the talisman has to be able to be naturally generated though as it's form of anti cheat protection.
gbatemp.net/threads/mhx-save-editing.404280/

Yay.

On the other hand

I don't think I'll miss MH4U, but still have friends who play it!

Frontier exclusive bullshit that will never leave Frontier.

MH5, maybe. Capcunts hate adding new ranged weapons.

It's got shit raw and crappy sharpness but fuck i managed to get one.
They do exist.

It paid out pretty well but 20 whetstones and 10 dungbombs wasn't enuff.

Seems like the boomerang might have had programming issues if the player could interact with it while it was thrown out since apparently Seltas Queen was absolute hell to program according to a video Q&A for 4U. Might have just been a thing about separate entities interacting with each other.

If you want to kill shit with a giant boomerang, there's nyanta mode.

it's surprisingly good

Highest survivability in the game, trade off is the lowest DPS bar none even when optimized

Is MHO at least fun to play with friends or is it just worth it to play something else?
