I wouldn't say that those were cherrypicked examples at all, they are fairly common but that doesn't make them a bad thing. There's nothing wrong with games that appeal to men featuring male protagonists that are buff and badass, and the same for games appealing to men that feature female protagonists that are cute and sexy. That is the shit that men like, that's what sells, and anyone who has a problem with that should probably pay more attention to the entire porn industry because it is a much better example of pandering to the male demographic. Again, this isn't a bad thing:

I would say in terms of trying to be as neutral as possible, the two pictures are pretty bad. For one thing the way they're composed is completely different, where one you can easily make out the character's easily, the other is cluttered. Also one features far more characters than the other, which already pushes the viewer to be pushed to one way of thinking. The female one also has a wider range of characters with some that are more obscure and less heard of than others.

I used them two examples as they were the best photos i could find that depicted a wide variety of characters.
In retrospect i should of photoshopped my own image however at the time i felt as if i would be bias in doing so.
The characters in the photos i thought were a wide variety (Eg super sexualised-covered up and not sexualized).

Because my sample size has a group of non gamers saying that gaming culture is sexist.

I agree. I think what is wrong is that this generation is kind of disconnected from the ideas behind exploitation entertainment. They don't understand that exploitation involves a kind of purposeful exaggeration and disconnection from conventional reality and norms and sometimes an inversion of the status quo. This is done for either shock value's sake, to make a kind of statement or even just for catharsis because "women don't normally dress like this, but in the world of game logic we can get away with it."

I say this as someone who is actually pretty socially conservative and is often concerned about the images kids and young people are fed through media: today's generation is way too sensitive and doesn't seem to understand nuance and artistic intent. Just because I wouldn't want a daughter of mine walking around in a slutty JRPG loli outfit doesn't mean I think that JRPG character designers are promoting that by having sluttily dressed JRPG lolis.
